There are obvious loopholes in its the way you drive it but there is merit in it as well. Driving a car quickly and effectively around a track to get a good time isn't as simple as just mashing the accelerator it's no easy task to get the best time.

@@fightingcarrot I have about 600 miles on the car now. I can't stop driving it, it's so much fun and the thing snaps necks pretty much everywhere. I will say one thing, the amount of brake dust this car produces is insanity. If I were you I would go get one, even if they come out with a new one with potential improvements this one is still a 10/10 car. I also saw on Honda Pro channel the next version R will have the same powerplant so I'm guessing its probably going to be Navi / Configuration options for the sport mode like the Volster N and some body style changes.

I’m a 43 year old child ✋🏼 (and owner). Love, love, love my car. Love the way it drives, love the way it looks. Love that it’s so distinctive. Love the fact that, unlike the likes of Golf R, et al it doesn’t look like just another civic. It’s a car built for the track that can be used on the road after all.

It's great there are choices out there I as well am a 43 year old child and love my 18 Golf R because its unassuming especially when this older dude (say 65) in his 06 vette (automatic trans)...like me wanted to run the blocks. After the first run he decided not to try again. It is very fun in winter here in canada too.

It was probably a bit harsh of me to single out the Golf R. :) It's also a great car and initially, when thinking about buying a hot hatch, I thought I'd prefer the subtlety of golf over the wild looks of the CTR but it grew on me more and more - helped by the fact that i had access to a Honda at around the time so i warmed to that engine and manual shift - and i just fell in love with it before deciding to buy it. And I'm so glad I did.

@@vejet each to their own, as they say,. I think other hot hatches are ‘prettier’ but who wants a pretty hot hatch? The type R is a beast! I love it! Mine is polished metal grey and I get so many people commenting how much they love the look of it, which totally goes against what you see online with the likes of the car journos. I think they look better in real life. Even my GF, who didn’t love it initially, said “there’s no way you’d get so many people commenting if you got any other hot hatch”. Other people’s opinions aren’;t a big factor in ownership but still; it’s quite nice. I feel like i own a super car, with the amount of comments I get about the car. A £30000 super car. Yes please. Also, it’s great to drive. I’d take a car with less than perfect looks that drives the way the type R does over something that is more aesthetically pleasing but isn’t as an engaging drive.

Even the whole race is scripted. It's entertaintment. If they want to find out which one quickest they'd do Hot Lap, but they din't. Had that be a real race for just one lap, whoever get into the first corner in front wins it. Civic would never past Lexus on UPHILL acceleration like that just before the finish. It won't even be diving the inside line as well unless the Lexus driver gave way to let Civic wins. Don't get me wrong, the Civic maybe is faster, but on that track Ebisu Higashi for just ONE lap. Civic cannot pass the Lexus after arriving second best in the first corner.

Honda did that test with no independent verification with a stripped down "pre-production" version, deleted rear seats & audio system, roll cage (they claim for safety not structural rigidity lol) & unspecified tires. So yeah, it's still a firecracker and a great value, but I'd take that lap time with a raised eyebrow

Honda was basically intent on one upping the slightly lighter clubsport s with identical hp, which was the previous 'Ring record holder. But the clubsport s is a track focused model with - surprise surprise- no rear seats and a brace in the back as stock. So Honda threw a roll cage in the back, ditched the seats, the infotainment system/radio/speakers, & put barely road legal track tires on it. Of course no pictures of the "floating roll cage" have been shown so we basically have to take their word that it wasn't for structural rigidity. People sadly don't know that many car makers put in cages for safety and make up the weight by ditching the seats. That's how most of "production" cars are tested on the Nürburg Ring whenever they are atempting a record time run. You don't simply test out the limits on the Nürburgring without safety measures. If you are unhappy with the times of the modified car you can look up amateur runs from normal drivers with stock cars, their times aren't bad either.

Dana Mueller The Honda has 311hp, 0-60 in 5.8. Lexus has 465hp and 0-60 in 4.1. The Lexus also has a slightly higher power to weight ratio. With equal tires the Lexus would win at the track.

Hugely entertaining video! Great work on the creators. Loved the animation cut scenes and video-game like presentation. Seriously debating which one to purchase. I don’t see myself making track runs - mostly due to time (work travel, kids, side business mgt, etc.) constraints but I do enjoy getting out for spirited early morning drives now and then on weekends when I have time. I’ve had the German M & AMG cars for years now and am tiring of the frequent trips to the mechanic to get one thing or another repaired. I love the styling of both. I’ve heard an LC F is on track for 2021 too. Curious what preferences are out there between the two if $ wasn’t not a blocker for the LC500.

The LC gets 471 hp @ 7100 rpm and the Type R gets 310 hp @ 6500 rpm. The track had few if no straightaways to get the full output for the LC hp. So the result of the video should be that the Type R is faster than the LC on this short and tight turns track. The track is better suited for the hot hatch Honda.

1. Great video, great editing, and great commentary by chris, as always ! 2. The LC500 is a stunning car. Stunning looks, stunning sound. Would be awesome to drive in one for hours. 3. Imagine a room (a bar) full of people. Every person represents a Car manufacturer. All of them are arguying over who is better at what, some of them are in a corner trying to figure out how not to be kicked out, and some of them are just bragging to everyone else, on how much superior they are. Honda, back in the days of the economic crisis left the bar with a "Guys I'll catch up with you later, I need to get some sleep and think things over again." With this new Type-R, they litteray kicked the door open, screaming "WHAT'S UP BITCHEEEESSSS. I'M BACK." This car really shows what, precise engineering and advanced technology can accomplish.

You can drift an FWD if you are skilled. It's just very hard to sustain the angle.
