My friend, I was immediately drawn to you because your honesty comes through loud and clear. No one on this planet loves Angelina more than I do. Of course that's crazy but that's how I feel in my heart. You love the original very much and no one, not even Angelina can make you feel differently. I do believe you came up a little short in your overall assessment of her performance. Not a great song for a 12 year older to be singing particularly in the tempo she decided to use. She obviously wanted to emphasize the lyrics in a very melancholy way and mission accomplished. Without question, this was not a goosebumps song. It is important to note Angelina does not fit into any genre and reaches out to make music anywhere when she feels the desire to do so. Her interpretation of the lyrics of a song are incredibly mind boggling and, therefore, converts most of her covers to "her own". I know you appreciate her work and her dedication to her art and I do thank you for your honest opinion. Recently she has just come out with a cover of Adele's version of "All I Ask". I think you might enjoy it. Give it a listen. Good luck to you and the band. Regards from the USA (New Jersey).

"better" is relative and somewhat subjective. But just remember... this is a 12 year old in her living room you are comparing to a music icon. If this is a favorite song for you, then it was probably predetermined that a cover of it was not going to impress you much. I personally think Chris would be quite proud of this cover. Angelina is able to interpret songs like no other. I think she pulls the true meaning of this song out better with her cover than any other interpretations I have heard.

Hej, Danny, tack så mycket for your reaction to Angelina. It is sometimes funny how different we take songs in, how different we look at them. This is one of my favorites from Angelina (I have many though), and I am a huge fan of Chris Isaak`s original too. Angelina seems to understand so well the essence of this song, the obsessive love, like she has lived and gone through it herself. She has an incredible understanding of music. But we can not always have he same taste, Danny, that would be boring. So I respect your opinion. I hope you will take many more looks at Angelina, there are tens and tens to choose from, that will give you chills. I can guarantee it. Here’s the thing, I heard this song from Angelina first. I listened to it a couple of times because it really is pretty different than what I had heard from her before. I concluded that this song is one that you could sit back, close your eyes....maybe have a glass of wine and be transported to that “one” relationship that somehow may have escaped you..hurt you...the slowness in it is hypnotic and her voice emphasises the hypnosis. I was really curious about the original so I sought it out and listened to it. I was disappointed. It lacked the deepness and emotion that Angelina gave it. So there it is. It very well could be which artist you heard it from 1st makes all of the difference, Angelina just rewrote it according to her interpretation, which you didn’t enjoy. “I’m Holding Out For You” is great. “Stay” is a great song, It’s a Man’s World..black and white, is a great song, Something’s Got a Hold on Me,

If everybody got chills from every performance of an artist, that artist would be like a "God". It's impossible to like every performance of an artist since everybody's taste differs. And Angelina's style is so diverse, there are styles people like and styles people don't like. So naturally not every performance of Angelina is to everyone's taste. But I can see a little why you stick to the original, because the style of your band is similar to that of wicked game. Me personally I like Angelina's version better than the original, because the slow pace and the clear voice without that much accompanying instruments make the song more sentimental. @yiuqwfj3 жыл бұрын
@@NebraskaGonvilleJones ok, then I objectively prove you wrong: As she plays the piano she sometimes closes her eyes, only people who make music with sentiment would do that, and if we analyze only the first few lines you can hear that she does so much with her voice, e.g. she accentuates the words "fire", and "desire", then the following line "I never dreamed" she started off with vocal fry and a stronger tone, and in the following finished off that phrase in a softer tone (decrescendo). In the chorus "I don't wanna fall in love" she executed a wonderful 'messa di voce' and ended the phrase with a subtle vibrato on the word "love". Objectively speaking this is the opposite of singing flat, meaning she shows a lot of character here. Furthermore this is the only existing version of this arrangement, therefore it's Angelina's version or in other words, she made it her own. Ergo, it's a fact that she sang with sentiment, she sang with character and she made the song her own, you are objectively proven wrong. I don't feel this version on every listen. It touched me couple of times, sometimes it didn't. Depending on my mood I guess. But then again, not a big fan of the Chris Isaac version either. To each his own. 97% of her songs do get me everytime, only a handful don't have much effect on me (not a big fan of 'the show must go on', for example). Still, never encountered an artist that consistently moved my soul more than Angelina. Hard to explain. Some random suggestions: At Last, Everytime we say goodbye, What is life (acoustic), I'd rather go blind, Love on the brain, Million years ago, Summertime, Stay, Wake me up, Moon River, Natural woman, California dreamin', Young & beautiful, Million Miles...

I like that you keep it honest. I have loved this song since Chris Isaak released it, and also played it on numerous occasions as a musician. For me, Angelina Jordan takes it to a new level...from her “play corner”. Pure emotion. So while I don’t know about “better”, as they are quite different, it is Angelina’s version I keep returning to. A humble masterpiece.

I agree, her version is haunting and beautiful, but it doesnt convey the feeling of longing that I always get from Cris Isaak's version which by the way also is one of my favorites ever. Well, I just went back and listened to Chris Isaac’s version and found it to sound very commercial with very little emotion. Hard to compare it to a 12or 13 year old girl singing with a piano and much more feeling than an older man who supposedly experienced these things. Chris is a good singer, but if you listen to Angelina’s latest song, My Funny Valentine, you’ll see that she has matured into one of the finest singing artists in the world, as she can do things with her instrument that no one else can do and is why no one else sounds like her. She turned 16 on Jan 10th 2022, by the way.

Hard to beat the original of this one even at the best of times. I mean, c'mon, Chris Isaak is a legend. to me, with this slower pace and dystopian, variant speed on the piano, her delivery and emotion here is MUCH better derived than is Chris Isaak. There is one other man who also beats him out in my opinion... I forgot his name... a lead singer of some known group doing a solo, similarly slow and emotive. Angelina sounds so convincing as an abused compromised, and confused woman caught in a strange "love" with a sadistic prick, but cannot break away. She delivers that as if channeling a dead abused person. TO ME. It is PERFECTLY IMPERFECT, as one should expect from a tragic character delivering these sentiments. Isaak version is more balanced and polished perfect studio sterilized version, IMHO.

I really recomend you this song "I'm Still Holding out for You"(kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqebnp15nZqcn6c) . It could not be called "cover" because it was recorded as a demo for the writer of the song, Baby Fuzz. You’ll probably read why this is not a song Angelina has released because of the dark lyrics. I understand that and applaud how her family has guided her in her overall values and development. After the demo her family and her decided not to released and later Baby Fuzz decide to sing by himself. This Angelina's demo was leaked few years ago after Baby Fuzz released the song and he said he never heard thar demo before. Man, there are no words for how good this is song. It’s impossible to hear this song even once and not realize that it’s a masterpiece of voice, style, and interpretation. It’s haunting, sorrowful, and beautiful all at the same time. And Angelina recorded this at ten years old. Ten! I hope you react to this song. It is amazing. Best regard. I love your reactions!

AJA is a true artist and the same way you perhaps wouldn't like to have all the works of your favorite painter hanging on your wall, same goes with music. That being said, this is one of my favorites from Angelina. CI wanted wicked game to give a obsessive feel, as that is basically what it is about. I think Angelina's slowed & stripped down version and her magnificent vocals squeeze every drop of obsessiveness out of the those lyrics. It's creepy and spooky and it definently allows for some chills.

As usual, "Great Performance" by AJ, whom I absolutely love and admire. But, I agree with Danny on this . . . AJ's version is not better or equal to the original perforemance by Cris Isaak. However, in all the years since Wicked Games was first performed by Cris Isaak, no one else has dared, or even come close to performing a cover version of Wicked Game as well as AJ has in this performance. She has the vocal skills and musical intuition to greatly improve her cover into something that genuinely rivals or overshadows the original.
