So glad you're back Bright Angel - This song is beautiful, and Chris has a modern Roy Orbison longing and loneliness in his voice.

Your right sounds like Roy. Saw Roy over 45 years ago. He came out, didnt talk to the audience, just stood there and introduced his song and sang. And we clapped till our hands were red. So glad to have seen him.

The first time I heard it.. I was certain Roy Orbison had a new song I never heard before.. lol. Amazing

Yes, the comparison with Roy Orbison is often cited in talk about Chris Isaak, and I'm pretty sure he cultivated that after being inspired by Orbison. But Chris Isaak has a great voice on his own, and he's very capable of hitting those high falsetto notes that are filled with longing. One thing I'm trying to figure out is a line that repeats in the song's chorus. Lyrics online always seem to show it as "I don't wanna fall in love". But I don't think that's what he's singing every time. After the first verse, he seems to be singing the words "I don't wanna fall in love" with the word "don't" sung very quickly and softly compared to the other words. Then after the next verses, he seems to be singing "I wanna fall in love," having changed his statement from denying the desire to embracing the desire to fall in love, only to have his heart broken. I don't trust the lyrics printed online. What do others think, if you listen carefully to those lines?

Chris has said in interviews that this song was inspired by an actual person and an actual event. Chris had a girl friend, maybe it was more of a girl that was a friend, and he said it was a toxic relationship. He knew that they were not good for each other but the sex was great! One night, early morning, she called him up sometime after midnight and asked him if she could come up to his apartment. He said ok. Between the time that he hung uptake phone from her and the time that she knocked on his door, Chris wrote this entire song! Chris has never disclosed who the girl is.

Very softly the background singers are singing: "The girl is only gonna break your heart." Lust can sometimes be mistaken for love, but only for a short time, hence the end: "Nobody loves no one."

@@JasonBorn89 Well, HUH! You are correct! All these years I thought the line was about this loser girl that was using Chris, (which IS true) and she was only gonna break his heart. Seemed like a natural fit to me, and the voices are so faint in the background it is very difficult to hear. Looks like I tried to alter his lyric. GOOD CATCH there my friend!

The music back then expressed love more easily in song. Today it seems like love like song expressed is challenged by a world of malice, confusion, conflict and strife. Our contemporary songs reflect what we're feeling.

I almost didn't recognize you! It's been a while! Glad to see you back! This song is from like, the late 80s or early 90s. There's a video with Chris and supermodel Helena Christensen on a beach. I think some people might not notice it, but the video really drives the home the point if you watch her. He's kissing her and she's, like, looking off un the distance, biting her nails, etc. He loves her, but she isn't that into him. HaHaHa (Her character, that is. I don't pretend to know what Helena actually thought of Chris. HaHaHa)

Chris Isaak has a haunting voice that underscores the heartfelt meaning in his songs. They are romantic, passionate, and guilty of a breathtaking feeling that leaves its mark, while you are falling into and sometimes losing love. More examples include WRONG TO LOVE YOU, DON'T MAKE ME DREAM ABOUT YOU, and BABY DID A BAD THING. It's been a while. Enjoy

He did a wonderful sitcom on Showtime in ?? 2001 ?? for a couple of seasons. He was "Chris Isaak" an ordinery club-gig musician and his band, with a talent agent and all kinds of fun. The talent agent's antics were often like Lucille Ball in I LOVE LUCY, and Chris's bandmates often got entangled for each episode. Chris would 'escape' reality into a room away from everyone else, and he'd listen to this free-floating phantom mermaid. I'll never understand why this show never made it to home-video, but that failure is why I clear my nostrils in Showtime's general direction.

This song was released from his 3rd album. It stagnated in the 1989 Billboard charts. But it was re released into the soundtrack to the movie Wild at Heart. Chris Isaak was born and raised in Stockton. But he moved to my hometown San Francisco 🌉. He was working on music 🎶 and went surfing 🏄‍♂ in his spare time. I am not sure if I ever met him. 🤔 He often played in the BAMMIES (Bay Area Music Awards) in the 1980s before this song blew up! 😃 He lists the late Roy Orbison, RIP, as an influence. 😎 And RIP James Wilsey, lead guitar in the studio recording and on touring guitar here. Written by Chris Isaak. This song is so seductive! 🤯 when he sang this in Australia 🇦🇺 he caused TV 📺 journalist Melissa Doyle to faint! L 🤣 L Music video 📹 Great. But model Helena Christensen was being a beach ⛱Ughh 😖. Fast forward to now. HC looks tired 😫 and old 👵. Chris Isaak looks in shape 💪 Surfing 🏄‍♂ does him great 👍 Suggested song 🎵 Chris Isaak sings San Francisco Days.

@lauraclark92
@lauraclark92 9 ай бұрын
@@rogerdaly6326 I do respect your opinion, but in my opinion lust is fast and immediate and in the right context there's nothing wrong with it.. lust is that attraction that gets things going...I mean I guess this could be interpreted that way but lust is not a slow burn. This song is talking more about a slower burn I feel like. While lust may be involved it goes much deeper than that... it's not really love either because true love doesn't hurt like this which is the entire point of this song. It's a mind fuck for lack of a better expression. Someone is playing games with your emotions and your mind and making you believe something is there that really isn't.. hence the wicked game. I was doing my best to respond to the initial comment to clarify this song... I never really noticed but the way he sings it if your not understanding the meaning of the song or paying that close of attention it could sound like either... I want to fall in love or I don't want to fall in love but it's I don't want to fall in love...

@TOOSUSHI, Glad to see you’re back I enjoy your reactions and openness to explore new music of all genres…Chris Isaak with his movie star looks and phenomenal voice was compared to Elvis & Roy Orbison for his entire career… He’s old school with his Nudi Suits (highly embroidered suit worn by country, and pop/rock musicians)… Wicked Game was recorded in 1989 and released as a single, on the Heart Shaped World album… It was initially banned on the BBC for “suggestive lyrics”… TS, You really must watch the official video for this song, it won MTV video of the year, and is still considered one of the sexiest music videos of All Time…It really puts an explanation point on the lyrics…. Another great CI song to experience is the( live at the Filmore version) of Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing…an entirely different vibe another great song…Good Luck Jjh
