Yeah but many of the white superior staff played a huge role in the disparities happening at ba both in the test kitchen and on the videos including pay and overall treatment. Chris’s silence (and later brad’s) have spoken volumes about their priorities. As a former fan I’m so so disappointed in Chris’s lack of solidarity and active role in glossing over ba’s unfair treatment of bipoc employees.
@rknl70834 жыл бұрын
@@laurengottlieb6354 I do have to agree with this tho, compared to the other cast members, they were relatively silent. Both have actually spoken out, Chris said more than Brad did (which was disappointing because it was lack-luster), not that it made it any better. I do, in a way, understand their reason for staying on video, they do have young children and video appearance is added income for both. Understanding their possible reasons for staying doesn't mean I'm not disappointed. I'm just pointing out that the ultimate culprit for the oppression at BA and Conde Nast is top management. They are the ones who can change the system and if they don't, nothing will happen. Let's just hope that despite this, Chris and everyone else continues to fight for change.

I think this is a case of two people reading things in two different ways and it really does matter that the intent is. When I first saw that comment in isolation I read it as though they didn't want to hire someone as over qualified as sohla clearly was for that role as they would need to promote them in three months time and have to recruit again. And they wanted another diverse hire. I've seen other people take it that wanted another over-qualified bipoc person to not be paid what their worth na menial job. Priya, Sohla, Rick (and possibly some others) will not appear in videos anymore. Claire has entirely left BA for good. Hunzi as well, and he was a major driver of the zany fun style of lots of videos, and of course often the actual editor. In this video alone you can tell the energy and spirit of the previous videos is almost entirely gone. Chris, Carla, Molly, and the few others who are left can't carry it all alone. BA failed completely to address this issue the right way. Nothing that we saw on screen was problematic, except maybe Adam. Their correct recourse should have been to transparently address the inequities in pay/seniority/whatever needed to be done behind the scenes, and preserve everything onscreen exactly as it was.

@@thethingthatshouldnotbe7221 I'll tell you why, even though it should be of common sense: because it's absolutely ridiculous to prejudge and neglect people by their skin color or nationality. Just because you are not white, you have less resources, less job opportunities, not allowed to have education, medical insurance, the right to vote, and you get arrested with extreme violence!! Just. Because. You're not. White. Let that sink in and you tell me why is not a good thing at all.
@SevdeLu4 жыл бұрын
@@thethingthatshouldnotbe7221 Well great that you want to educate yourself. I respect that. The thing with racism against black people specifically is that it’s a construct of white people, created around the 17th and 18th century, where the white people decided they are of more value, so they could enslave people of darker skintones. That thought is still present. The ideal beauty standard is someone with light skin, blue eyes, blonde hair. Anything different and you‘re automatically less than. Of course there are the big things, that are not acceptable anymore, but racism itself is more than calling someone any racial slur. In BAs case they paid people of different races less. So you have white privilege: white creators got paid more, not because of there experience, but solely because of there „marketable“ white skin, names etc. Then you have microaggressions. For example me getting asked, is I can’t marry a white dude, because people are too lazy to learn how to pronounce my name. All wrapped in a joke, but still hurtful. All in all it is a system which degrades, undermines and hurts people who point blank just look different. So I want to ask you: what is good about it?

I'm just so happy to see Chris. Sometimes during Covid its nice to see some familiarity. And I believe they will make positive changes, there's always growing pains.

That was a hard turn talking about in retrospect and spending time with family, I was getting ready for a deep conversation about what happened. And then I realized he was talking about meatballs 😂

I guarantee you that Claire is not coming back. She's made a statement on her Instagram and it sounded pretty final that she'd ended her contract and was moving on to different things.

Idk how you got 13k down votes on this video, maybe about all the non cookery stuff or a lot of people dont like BA after... May? But, this recipe actually made the best meatballs I have made. And I have made a lot of meatballs. The mixture with a little bit of meat was clutch. I also made toast then crumpled it for breadcrumb substitute!

Hosting the first video for BA to come back after what happened? Man. That must suck. I understand why anyone wouldn't want to leave a good-paying job in these times. I also understand that, after everything, one may look at the changes and think that the brand is moving in the right direction and choose to stay onboard to see the changes through. In any case, I hope this is a good sign for what's to come, even if Chris looks battered and shaken to be in front of the camera again.
