I’m white and have been doing the following every time I’ve been stopped by police (many times, I don’t drive slow). Pull over to the side of the road, switch engine off, roll down drivers window, hands on the wheel. Cops don’t know for sure what they’re walking up to. your car may have been stolen and you aren’t aware of it for example. These easy steps help put the cop at ease. I have been stopped for speeding at least 10 times in the last 20 years and have yet to get a serious citation. They always knock it down to something very minor. Taking the stress off the cop makes a difference.

(A much stranger episode happened back during the 55 speed limit: Coming back from Lake Tahoe, my dad was pulled over for a lot of lane changes to get through traffic around Sacramento. You guys do know this is satire right? He is purposefully listing things that shouldn't ALONE get you beaten by the police. Having a gun and a blunt isn't grounds for getting beaten by the police. It may be grounds for arrest. So this is purposefully exaggerated. If you guys knew Chris Rock's stance on law enforcement you'd understand that he does not back the blue. And you'd also understand that this video is literally an indictment of police work in America. The reason why you people can't understand that, is because you think exactly like the satirical nature of the video. Which means Chris Rock was making fun of you specifically. Scorp Sixonesix your not suppose to run from the cops... it doesn't have much to do with the "hind brain". Flight or flight kicked in and you ran like a guilty bitch, they will take you down and once you're ass is subdued they will figure out why you decided running was the better option.

Devin O'Mara 90% of the time they just want to know what you are up to. You run, that is like a silent admission of guilt.
@matthewbradley33959 жыл бұрын
Shane Camburn "90% of the time they just want to know what you are up to. You run, that is like a silent admission of guilt." Not according to the Supreme Court. If you have done nothing wrong and are in what is considered a safe environment, you are under no obligation to stop and can legally ignore a police officer. They won't like it but the law is on your side.
@ShaneCamburnGSGI9 жыл бұрын
Matthew Bradley You are correct, but at the same time, if an officer approaches, and asks what you are doing, and you break and run for no seemingly particular reason, then you are creating a scenario that places you on a "questionable" side of probable cause. I know it has been contested both ways and won/lost both ways in the past. However, the idea that an innocent man has no reason to run remains a common logic. Therefore, in most cases, this will be viewed as a reasonable act for the pressing of probable cause which lifts the burden of unlawful search and seizure. Yes, technically, by law - you are within rights to not speak to, keep moving, and totally ignore law enforcement - IF you are not being stopped for any law breaking witnessed by the officer. However, this certainly will make you quickly unpopular with the police and they will look for their loopholes to get back at you. I have known to many police officers that make such things a point of their day.

@@noname-ue7lb "black people could follow a few rules". Its not that simple my dude. There's a history in this country, and black people are scared, and for good reason. Police don't always uphold civic trust and treat black men with an added layer of suspicion which leads to unnecessary confrontations. Also, defunding the police is and always was a bad idea. If anything is to get fixed, the police would need more funding, not less.

Certainly this is not the world we want to live in - trying to help police invade our personal space. The reason why Chris Rock's advice makes sense is that it's very minimum. We're not doing ourselves any favors in the long run if we try to hard to be accommodating. The police must evolve to meet their goals without interfering with our constitutional freedoms.

Yeah, but the problem is that even if you do everything right and follow all the instructions in this video, there are some dirty cops who'll still beat the shit out of you, arrest you for some made-up bullshit or shoot you 20 times and lie about it, just because they're angry, sexually frustrated and feel like fucking somebody over to show off their power. Also, police brutality doesn't only affect Black people and other minorities, although they're the most likely to suffer from it. For all the white people reading this comment, remember that this bullshit can happen to you too, especially in poorer neighborhoods.
