Honestly, I wish I'd never bought anything from Govee Just because the simple fact of individually addressable Leds. which I now have gotten from BTF lighting. So, so, so, so much better. I was blown away by how much I spent on BTF And sure, yeah, I had to buy some micro controllers and a few power bricks But to have the level of beauty. on my setup which is a PC setup. with signalrgb. So you can already imagine how awesome it is. Since Signalrgb added WLED support. And it just blows away anything govee that I own. Really. These companies don't care about you. especially govee. It's all about their bottom line and making as much profit as they can. That's why they shove three led addressable and even sometimes 6 led addressable down your throat without Selling any individually addressable products. they have one or two. That's it. And the ones they do have, you can tell they skimped on in some ways. They're led curtain with the fairy lights. That's individually addressable because it has to be, or it would look like complete DOG shiz! From the moment I saw BTF lighting matrixes and strips for the price that they provide, the color brightness there, how bright the whites are. And the fact that they sell 16 foot. 60 led per meter, THATS individually addressable for.23.99!! That was a year ago., The prices must have went up 'cause I just saw one for$27.99. for an individually addressable 60 LED per meter strip And yes, obviously it's not with the controller or a power brick but it's so worth it to get a little controller and ESP32. You can get a 3 pack for 15 bucks and like a $10 power brick and you have one of the best looking. light strips you've. ever seen with the most control you've ever had. That is worth it, Every penny!! had I known this I would have never spent a dollar on any govee products ever!!! That's why their app a couple years ago didn't even have speed control because when you start to slow down their effects, you just see how janky they look. And still now they don't even give you complete speed control. You get 4 speeds. lol,😒 There is no reason to not have a speed control, but now it all makes sense to me. Now that I am enlightened, anyways, keep showing people They have better options for less money. Thank you for that. It's hard to convince people that they were wrong and they spent more money. I was. one of them. But when the truth hits you, it's like a ton of bricks. I'm still pissed And I found this out over a year ago.😒 Still better late than never.

I have a 65" TV and do not see it as a problem since the diffusion on the wall spreads the light out pretty well. Maybe if I had something to compare to then I would notice the difference. Great job on the review. Returned my camera-based Govee system and ordered the FancyLEDs because of your previous videos. Two things I'd like to see FancyLEDs improve, though: 1) They need to add a color temperature/white balance adjustment for those who don't have white walls (Govee has this) and 2) fix their product to be compatible with Dolby TrueHD audio. Many of my 4K Blu-ray disks don't work with the FancyLED lights because they output Dolby TrueHD or Atmos using a Dolby TrueHD wrapper.

I may be an outlier here but I really don’t like all the flickering (like at 9:00) from the “more accurate” FancyLEDs. And I don’t notice the corner problem on my Govee lights because my TV isn’t that close to the wall, so the lights bouncing on my wall are more blended. Thank you so much for making this video, now I’m confident I made the right choice of sync box.
@ChrisMaherDIY3 күн бұрын
@@Lore. Thanks for watching! I'm sure there are many that feel the same way. You would want to turn the speed of diffusion down on fancy to make the transitions a little more smooth and further away from the wall would certainly help with the darker corners on the Govee side.
@okachobe12 күн бұрын
So pretty much anyone whos getting the lights for their tv that are towards the upper end like if govee has lights for 55-65 inch, the 60-65 inch tv owners are probably more likely to have the corner problem since its like a one size fits many situation. and if you have a smaller tv your going to end up stuff sticking out from behind your TV that you can just tape to the back of the tv or something. but now that i listen again it looks like the fancy leds, have the same range. maybe they just planned the strips better
@MalignantCrayon2 күн бұрын
@@okachobe1govee is fixed lengths of LED strips with connectors at each corner so yes, depending on size of tv, you might have connectors showing unless you stick then to back of tv, but the FancyLEDs are able to be cut to length, so theyll most likely have enough to cover the biggest size for the range you purchase, but if you have the lower size, you can cut to fit. That being said, Govee does have a tremendous amount of products that you can build into your eco system (if thats your thing) and like the comment above, your tv could be further away from a wall so might not see the gaps on corners and also the customisation aspect is definitely a plus. For ne however, if I’m buying LEDs for a tv, I’m using them purely for ambilight purposes, no gimmicks and as accurate as possible, so FL would be my pick, but govee definitely has it’s perks over FL for other things within my household. Each to their own.. nonethelss, fantastic comparison! 👌🏾

You failed to mention the visual responsiveness from the Fancyleds system vs Govee. Especially in the rotating colours example, the Govee system looked terrible. I saw others say they didn't like the flickering of the Fancyleds however, that is the sort of performance I would be looking for in a system like this. I have the first gen Govee light bars for my TV, and it is mostly a case of wanting to get more lights elsewhere first, but when I come back around to the TV again Govee will be up for a fight.

Okay, how is this for going too far; I have the Govee T2 already installed on my TV, I get the FancyLED system for the better color range, put that on my TV as well as the Govee then I continue to use the Govee camera to sync my other Govee lights? Too much? The reason I would do this is because I’ve NEVER liked the way the Govee camera syncs to what’s on screen but I like the interaction with my Govee strip lights, Lyra etc and I don’t want to lose that. Great Vid Really nice to see the side by side. What I really like was your break down on how their strips are set up and the way they handle the pixile density for displaying content. It's sad that GoVee has not embraced higher density strips. The raw cost of the higher density strips and their power requirements is not like it was 5 years ago. With the price they charge I don't think it would cut into profit margins and for products like this one it would really make a huge difference. As you have clearly shown. I wonder if there would be a benefit to 4 led's per inch like the BTF strip that has 100 LEDs/m? Might be diminishing returns at that density. LOL

I think a very important thing to remember is that this is meant to be an ambient light feature.. it isn’t meant to take away from the viewing experience or draw more attention to the lights. Most people won’t notice the difference between a few missing sections of light when watching a film or playing a game; don’t care how attentive to detail you are, if the lights are drawing that much attention then maybe you’re missing the point.
@johndough824 күн бұрын
I totally agree with you. It is not that HUGE of a deal as people make it out to be. It also seems everyone is wanting the lights so bright, that it's basically painting the entire wall with light. Again, as you stated, it's designed for ambient lighting. Not painting the entire wall with light.

I absolutely agree. Currently I got a Philips tv with ambilight, and I don't notice it being there, but I absolutely notice it if I turn it off. The way Philips to ambilight is also very different. I picked up the Fancyleds kit on your recommendation and am in the process of returning them. The color accuracy was flat out awful and no amount of tinkering in the very basic iOS app made things better. Yellows and Greens simply refused to show on screen while watching content but worked fine when I specifically selected those colors in the app. $200 is a lot of money to pay for a sub par product. Ended up rolling my own with a Raspberry Pi 4 running Hyperion, a cheap HDMI capture card off Amazon, a DigUno WLED controller, and a WS2812. The end result was significantly better, especially considering that Hyperion allowed me to fine tune the color output. My solution is certainly not plug and play, but it does work better than the Fancyleds kit and cost me about the same amount of money all in.

Govee or any of these other companies. give you. I wish I had someone telling me this a couple years ago. Because I had to find out the hard way. that just taking a little bit more effort and buying the strips and then buying the controller and power bricks separate is definitely going to save you money and give you the most premium effects and just lighting in general. You'll have so much more control over your effects and lights. then Govee will ever give you. I really wish I knew that. 😒I found this out over a year ago, and it still stings. I have an entire setup for $300. like the whole shebang matrix is lighting all around my whole PCA setup. I wish I could send you a picture on here. Had I gone with Govee or Phillips or some other brand, it would have cost way more and it would have had way less functionality and just not the best Lighting. I wish I had somebody telling me this, like I'm telling you. Just look into BTF lighting. buy one $27 dollar 16 foot strip 60 LED's per meter. individually addressable with a cheap controller and a power brick. Use WLED. for the app. You can get it on your phone And computer. There's youtube videos on how to set it up. It's actually really easy. And you'll have so much more control. and you'll just be amazed at how beautiful a 60 led. Per meter. Individually addressable strip is. at that point there'll be no going back. 😄👍 I really hope you take my advice or see this comment. If I could help just one person, it would be all worth it.😔

@@craigjamroz7585 Also looks like BTF has some big limitations compared to my current setup... 4K is limited to 60HZ and it looks to only have 1 HDMI In port (I'm using all 4) Also I have many LED products around my room (not just the TV) and with Govee or Phillips all those products react as well (not just the LED strip on the TV).

Great comparison video. Between the 2, do you notice any difference in lag between scene switching and the LED color catching up? I have a first gen Lytmi Neo system and it's pretty good, but I do have a small but noticeable lag between screen content and LED color output. Is that a non-issue with these products now? Thanks!

would it make sense to get the larger screen size so that the corners can be filled in? Assuming you lose a few inches on the corners a 70" model might be best for a 65: tv?

Great job on the review of both. BTW, Jamar Chase is the best receiver, and the numbers back it up. Triple crown incoming
@ChrisMaherDIY4 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching!! Jamar is having a great season but this is his first year over 1500 yards. This will be Jeffersons 3rd year over 1500 yards in the nfl. (would be his 4th if he didn't get hurt last year) Jerry Rice leads the nfl with most years getting over 1500 yards. He did that 4 times.

@ChrisMaherDIY true, but you gotta look at Burrow being injured just about every year or not having the oline the Vikings have to give enough time to get the ball to him. Both are great, but Burrow and Chase are finally doing what they should have been doing all along.

Thanks for watching! You would need to put on the new lights. The new lights are different and made specifically for the sync box. The new kit has a higher density led strip and a dedicated white light.

What about movies in alternate fomats? How do they handle black bars when a movie is wider than the standard 16:9 and the top and bottom are nothing?
@ryanw86644 күн бұрын
The Sync Box is almost perfect, but it has a major flaw. It does not passthrough lossless audio formats like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD. It also doesn't pass all Dolby Vision profiles, such as the Full Enhancement Layer (FEL). For serious home theater buffs who prioritize the ultimate video/audio quality, this is sadly a deal-breaker. Super bummer, because I really wanted this. I've already given Fancyleds feedback about this. If anyone else cares, please let them know too!

Hi Chris, another awesome video! Quick question. I have the fancy light set up on my lg g4. When I power down my entertainment system, the fancy lights turn off for a moment, then turn back off. Do you happen to know of a setting on the app that allows the lights to turn off when the system turns off?
@ChrisMaherDIY4 күн бұрын
Hmm good question. I know I turn my tv off with the nvidia sheild remote and it turns everything off and keeps it off. I will say, with the amount of settings on everything these days, my guess is its probably something there that would fix it but unless I had the g4 and other same stuff that you have, tough to troubleshoot!

I really like Govee's products, but in this case I have to say: The ambient light from FancyLeds is significantly better. The corners, in particular, are much better illuminated. I also find the color detection and especially the density of the LED strip to be much better. However, I don't like the price (nearly 300 euros).

Thanks Chris great video. I'm kinda torn love the Fancy but I'm also so integrated with Govee. I know you are too.. On the plus side really like the extra hdmi port on govee, but the corners ugh and slight corner delta's ugh. my other thought though is that all signals must go into the box and have to redo my AV receiver setup to accept a single input. Ugh, more cable rejiggering lol
@ge27194 күн бұрын
if you dont want the gaps in the corners i'd imagine itd be better to build a bit of a wooden frame the perfect size for the leds strips, and put that against the wall, rather than on the back of the tv. that way more of the light goes onto the wall that you see rather than the wall behind the tv. having the leds flat against the back of the tv always bfeels like these are lighting up behind your tv as much as they are lighting up the wall. losing half of the light.
@kupua4 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for your reply, interesting but… I actually think that be even more off-putting. As side to side visuals of that frame on wall situation. The whole purpose is not to add “visual distractions”
@ChrisMaherDIY4 күн бұрын
Yeah it really is a tough call. Govee's ecosystem is further along and if you already have a ton of Govee products, it makes the decision even harder. But if your purly going for accuracy and that wow factor for the lights behind the tv, Fancyleds is the best in my opinion!
@johndough824 күн бұрын
So how would the Govee box work with an AV receiver? Could you run the hdmi cable (display out) from AV, to the input of the Govee box, and then hdmi out from the box, to hdmi in (display in) on the TV? And then cycle the sources from the AV? This is what I am hoping anyways.

Are your TVs with FancyLeds using Dolby Vision or HDR? The colors in your footage look synced perfectly and not over saturated like mine usually does in scenes and I also copied your settings. I am running Dolby Vision so I'm not sure if that's why or not. Also do you usually have issues where your lights will go into black bar mode when they aren't present? Sometimes my lights will flicker in and out of black bar mode on scenes where the top and bottom are dark, but aren't fully black. I don't know if that's intentional by FancyLEDS or not. Great video by the way, I really appreciate videos like these which helps people narrow down which products are best for them.
