It should work the same if you have an analog odometer butter mustang gear won’t work. Gotta buy a specific one for the CRV. It could be other things as well so once you verify it’s the odometer and you get the gauges out, you can do some more diagnosing.

I replaced the same gears in a Mercury about 12 years ago. Unfortunately I could not buy them anywhere, so I had to make my own. Worked great after the swap. Sometimes you can hear a noise coming from the dash when they're worn out. The LED's usually will not burn out, but the level of intensity will fade over time. If you don't have a Torx, then you can also squeeze by with a hex key.
@helivesonforever8 жыл бұрын
You can also just sucker up and get a junkyard cluster too. Odometer will be off, but if you're a sensible person like most people aren't, you can put a piece of tape on the cluster and write the mileage of the car, and the mileage of the cluster when installed. That way, you will never lose track. Or you can just swap out the broken parts from the good cluster into your original one.
@electronicsNmore8 жыл бұрын

@ChrisFix I suggest you lubricate the plastic gears with some plastic lubrication. Or just use some Vaseline. This will increase the lifespan even more. Be warned don't just use any oil or WD40 this will damage the plastic!
@chrisfix7 жыл бұрын
+Marfnl disse thanks for the tip! Silicone works best but def don’t use Vaseline because it is petroleum based and will disintegrate the plastic which is why the gears went bad in the first place.
@LoganDark43576 жыл бұрын
Some plastics like nylon are self-lubricating.

Thanks Chris! I have been trying to figure out why the odometer on my 4 wheeler wasn't working for the past couple months until now! I found some gears and tore apart the dash and got it working great! Keep up the good work!👍 Excited to see more videos on the mustang! #Driftstang #ProjectCrowdComtrol

Removing the cables from the back is the biggest pain in the ass ever when doing this job. As well as putting them back in when you’re ready! But this fix was overall very fun. It literally takes ten minutes with the correct tools.

Hi Chrisfix, Would you tell us how you did figure out what part you actually needed to order? And how you selected a supplier for that?
@chrisfix8 жыл бұрын
That is a good question! I knew the odometer wasnt working and I knew it runs off a gear and I knew the speed sensor feeds it info. I did a quick online search to see that these mustangs have this problem. Boom, that easy!
@SE45CX8 жыл бұрын
Ok, but it is my opinion that you have been lucky the failure of that part is a common problem in the mustang and having a reasonably priced aftermarket part available. Oftentimes I do think people run into a lot of frustration to (1) obtain some part number of the one that's broke and (2) finding this correct part on the internet, (3) ensure that's the part they actually need, with all the missing data in the advertisement (I don't think I'm the first one who hates that) (4) prevent from being ripped off. Although you do have a catchy video title it's not the definitive answer to all non spinning odometers on all cars. Your audience should be aware of that.

Chris, how I wish you released this video just a week before. I made the mistake and used a napkin to whip mine and it left several scratches :(. Any advice on what to use to clean it? Learning the hard way I threw out all the napkins and stocked up on lots of microfiber towels. Thx in advance.
