I noticed some one commented about no power steering on an Oliver 550; You need to go to Jackson Powersteering website. I did and have an after market p/s system on my 1967 559 Diesel.. The systems used on the Ford 600-800 series will work on the Oliver 550 and Super 55. They use the same exact GM Shagnaw gearbox. You only need to install a P/S pump and Oil reservior and connect the hyd lines and cylinders that Jackson makes available. They are total hydrualic no gear connection to the steering sector but use the same gear box less the steering shaft and recirculating ball nut which is discarded. Many 550's front end and steering box has been wrecked by over loading the FEL that has been popular with them.

I have factory power assist steering on my one 550, but nothing on my other, it helps at low speeds, but isn’t necessary.

That really long selfie stick gets some great shots but looks like a catastrophic end to a camera waiting to happen !! Hahaha The lengths (literal ) you guys go to to entertain us is amazing ! Fun to watch any color, size,plow ,tractor combination in the field , especially if they're actually set pretty well and preforming as they were intended to ! Gonna be a lost art in not to long ,my son farms but never actually operated a moldboard for any reason , I always enjoyed plowing just to see how neat and clean and straight I could make it! Thanks for the video!

My Grand father had a diesel 550. He said folks in the community used to come borrow his Big tractor referring to the 550. He also said pound for pound it was the hardest pulling tractor he ever owned. Would pull 3-16 inch plows easily.

That little outfit is working very well there, enough stones to keep you on your toes and keep you awake! Thank you. As we have virtually no Oliver tractors here in Ireland I am slowly getting used to the model numbers and their approximate hp, then this 550 comes along and I’m puzzled again. I would love if you could give a quick rundown of the ranges with their models. No rush, next winter when there is more time is fine! Thanks

Awesome! Glad you like the mount! I've put a couple of those together for myself and they sure are handy! Your phone sure picks up a lot of vibration! Sheesh! The comparison is night vs day! And the gopro is so clear too! Really, the only downside to the gopro is the sound when in the case. I know they can usually take external microphones, but don't know how they can be used while in the case. I just stuck my used GoPro3+ to the sled at a tractor pull last weekend and same deal with the sound, so I need to figure something out too. I usually put a thin piece of paper between the magnet and any painted surfaces and it hasn't scratched anything yet, so, hopefully it works out well for you! Don't plow under your selfie stick!! The 550 sounded like it was running great! Seeing people plowing sure makes me hope Kalsems have a plow day this year again! Thanks for the video!
@ThatOliverGuyChris

I put a piece of blue shop towel under the magnet, worked great. The gopro was vibrating too, but that is how well the image stabilization works on the 7. I had it on my fender during the bridge crossing, and at the right speeds the fender would vibrate fairly bad, but the video is incredibly steady. The 7 is waterproof without a case, it came with a case that is more open to let the sound through. I think your magnet will get another round of use today, hopefully making some square bales.

For Meadow Green I have used PPG 926052, and for the Clover White I use PPG 46536. It's called Heather Green, but it's white with only a hint of green and matches up to the original quite well. The Clover White that Agco sells has too much green and a little bit of brown to it, in my opinion. The PPG paints at Painter's Supply are cheaper than the Nason paint that I used on the purple 1850, but I didn't price the green or white there. The dyes make a huge difference on the final price of paint. I bought meadow green and a darker green at the same time, and the darker green was about $20 a gallon more because of the tints they had to use.

Any chance you want to talk about the power steering setup on the 550? No power steering is the biggest challenge with our 550, and would love to add it if at all possible.
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 5 жыл бұрын
It is possible. If you want to do it factory, the steering box needs to be replaced with a power steering one, 2 steering cylinders, tie rods, and a pump need to be added. There is a man in Palestine Texas by the name of Kent Gordon, he is the Super 55/550 guy. He has parted out tons of them, and would probably have everything you need. What are your thoughts/opinion of a White 2-150?

@@ThatOliverGuyChris Thanks. My uncle has one he hasn't used in years I was going to buy. Do you think the same of a 2-155?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 5 жыл бұрын
Totally the opposite on the 2-155. The transmission in those is close to indestructible. The Hercules has lots of torque, and though it can be a bit thirsty when working hard, it makes lots of power out of it. Overhaul kits are available for the engine. I will say, if it has FWA, those were made by a French company called Soma, and parts are hard to come by for them. Overall, they are a solid tractor that an get a lot of work done.
