its crazy how restricted bikes are now a days. Back in the day it was almost unheard of to get 10whp out of a bike unless you open the motor up. Now a simple flash to get rid of restrictions is 30-75whp. Thats crazy!

Actually you’d get a pretty good bump with just an exhaust and jetting because the factory exhaust didn’t flow great and the jetting matched the exhaust flow. I remember seeing 10+ with just an exhaust and jetting on a 2002 Kawasaki zx9r

It's always been that way. A number of bikes from 20+years ago could jump over 20hp with a tuned exhaust, carb jetting and airbox mods. On a bike with 85+hp the increases could be huge.

@@moustachio334 NASCAR are NASCAR. we are talking about road legal stuff. in the cas of a Corvette it doesn't rev this high. when a 458 does. but the firing order makes it sound even higher anyway. noise has a lot to do with perception. like an inline 4 flat screamer sounds like it revs higher for he same rpms than the R1M in crossplane. hence why red lines are relatively close. generally about 1000rpms in favor of the flat screamer. not much more. the advantage of a crossplane is that it's more linear with a much wider powerband. even though it produces slightly less top end hp. i personally love the R1 sound but i hate the crossplane V8 sound. like i prefer a raging V4 Honda or Ducati MotoGP than a Panigale V4.

Lamborghinis and the new corvette have a flat plane crank shaft, which is why they have a high pitch sound… like most inline 4 bikes have. The R1 is different bcz it has a cross plane crank shaft like a muscle car. Yamaha deemed it superior to the flat plane crank for its firing order allowing better grip coming out of corners.

I’ve got a 2021 R1M, from what I’m told the manufacturer told the dealership that only 1400-ish total were made in 2021 but it’s uncertain because less were made in 2021 due to parts shortages. They said for any year model of R1M it’s under 2000 total units made and nobody I know has seen a badge that has over the #2000. I was also told only the top end dealerships in each state that make the most sales get to order these bikes in for their inventory. I went to the largest Yamaha dealership in Texas that had the highest sale rate in the state and they only were allowed to order 1 R1M for the entire year period. They also have a couple hundred R1M’s every year that go to other countries to the dealerships with the highest sale rates. So it’s not many, it was an absolute pain to get mine, but talking power wise I was told they have slightly different tuning from factory which is why they come out more powerful. It’s been proven by many tuners that they are different in power/torque than the base R1.

The zo6 c8 corvette will have a flat plane crank. I think you have then confused. The cross plane crank is used in most modern day engines. The flat plane crank is used by the high end cars and soon the z06 c8.

I can confirm on the unrestricted R1 2021 at 12k rpms the front tire will come up under power in 4th. Thats 130+mph. I do have the bike 1 tooth down in the front sprocket.

I've got the 2022 number 1461, would love to come down from VA and put her on your dyno. I was told from Yamaha 500 a year from 2015. got the slip on already on and need a flash. Would like to see if any changes from 20 to 22?

Mine is 1243. Europe model. I’ve heard from a Yamaha rep that they haven’t been able to make 500 a year. In 2022 there were only a few released in the uk. Very limited bike considering the years they have been releasing them.

For just a exhaust, I have NEVER seen a r1 make 190hp. I think it's true, sometimes you get a bike that's kinda a freak from the factory. I remember years ago when I raced jet skis. Me and 4 other buddies bought the same ski to race in a certain class when it first came out and was the boat you had to have to win. We would line all 5 boats up and mine was fuckin freakishly fast, like would leave the other guys by several lengths after about 100 yards, which is a ton!

Isn't the stock setting running lean because of the open intake and exhaust? With stock parts it should make more horsepower than 150 wheel.
