I love cheese. Especially with a character as ridiculous as Thor. This movie embraced the cheese, and the song was perfect because it's ridiculously awesome and it's about norse mythology. Plus everyone bitches about Marvel music not being memorable, so i'd say Led Zeppelin was an appropriate solution to that problem.
@WiloPolis035 жыл бұрын
@@FireBirdFilmsAssemble I know I'm a year late on this but yeah, I feel like this movie was just slowly building up its awesomeness until the Led Zeppelin lightning scene, showing Thor zapping everyone, while meanwhile there was the Hulk defeating the giant wolf, Valkeyrie (hope that's spelled right) arriving in Asgard, Loki defeating the army of aliens, and even Korg getting some punches in. The problems with Thor and Thor: The Dark World weren't that they were too serious. Because as I always say, you can have serious superhero movies be amazing, like The Dark Knight trilogy, the Captain America sequels, and Logan. The problem with Thor was that it spent way too much time on Earth with nothing interesting to do. And the problem with Thor: The Dark World was just that it just sucked.

Blurry Colours I'm too a kiwi but his small budget independent films are much better like Boy or Hunt of the Wilderpeople. I think the movie was alright, I think script is much better than your normal Thor film, it has much more heart into it and feels more distinct. But still feels bland like majority of the MCU films except for some alterations with the script the movie is really consequence free and people join with Thor for some of the most superficial reasons. Even though it seems like it does have consequence it really doesn't feel like it, because this movie is such a tontally shift and it's Jarring. Like compare this to that dream sequence in age of ultron and you wonder was this the same movie that was set up.
@blurrycolours36247 жыл бұрын
Nerd Zone! Hmm yea I was kind of hoping this movie didn't go too far down the humour track. I really wanted some game changing set up for infinity war much like winter soldier did for age of ultron. Ah well Im still happy for Taika and hope that his future work will now get noticed a lot more!!

I think the "Get Help" scene with Thor and Loki got the mix of emotion and comedy spot on. It gave you that heartfelt, emotional exchange between the 2 characters, then let it linger ever so slightly, then broke the tension with comedy that highlighted a strong memory of something they used to do as children. You didn't mention Tom Hiddleston. The scene with Odin calling both him and Thor "my sons" and Loki being surprised to still be considered his son was so good. And there was this scene in an elevator with him and Thor where Thor tells him he can stay on Sakaar because he knows he doesn't want to come back on Asgard. Loki is visibly sad about that. I think there is so much more to be said about his character, I know this was Thor's story and there was a lot of important stuff going on that needed screen time, but it really annoyed me at one point how they brushed off Loki's sad moments with jokes. Here I disagree with you Chris, there were too many jokes, I liked the movie in general but they exaggerated with the jokes, some scenes would have been so much better without what seemed to me to be forced humor.

Thor Ragnarok has few elements from LOTR with the Asgard scenes, it has a vibe to it but no one try to compared LOTR with Thor Ragnarok in terms of overall tone and structure or even at the same level of it. The character arcs did it for me. Each character moved so well through the movie. Thor got smarter, wiser and stronger. Hulk/Bruce Banner had lost himself and by the end had control over himself again. Val got over her demons and got revenge whilst also remembering that she does care for her home. Skurge put everyone before himself. And our beloved Korg finally got the revolution he dreamt of (if only his mum was there to see him

I feel we shouldn't judge a movie by what we would have liked it to be or what we expect but we should judge based on what it is. Thor Ragnarok is a comedy. We were told it was going to be a comedy. A light humoured fun over the top space adventure. Going into the movies expecting something dark and serious and then being disappointed because it was exactly what they told you it was going to be. Then complaining and judging the movie based on your preconceptions rather than on what the director wanted you to experience doesn't seem very fair. This movie should be judged as a comedy. If it wasn't enjoyable. Wasn't funny. Wasn't adventurous or colourful, Didn't make you smile or laugh or didn't have a good story THEN you can call it a bad movie. If the director in this case Taika Waititi sat down and said I'm gonna make Thor Ragnarok a funny and enjoyable movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and the movie hits the mark and delivers EXACTLY THAT. Then it deserves a good score. It fulfilled its purpose. I agree with Chris on this one. The simple fact is Thor Ragnorak did and was exactly what it said it was going to be. My score: 8.0/10

Hate to say this because I know Chris means well, but I was a student at Full Sail University and I have to say from experience, it is a SCAM. They are financially shady and put you into a HUGE debt. My suggestion would be to find a community college or affordable uni and get a degree in their film department and then join IATSE.

I graduated from Full Sail in 2013 and it is certainly not a scam. There are some truly incredible instructors working there and the programs they offer really are pretty top notch. The career development department was also an enormous help to me post graduation - they still keep in touch with me 4 years later. Emphasis on the help part.. I worked my ass off as a student and in the industry right out of the gates. Full Sail (or any other school out there) does not put students into debt. Taking on debt is a personal choice. Having said that, I also can agree with you partially. There are definitely other education options out there that should be weighed in consideration equally. It is not a decision to be taken lightly. Don't jump into a highly competitive industry if you're not sure it's something you want as more than a hobby. Not trying to invalidate your feelings or opinion on Full Sail, but I think any potential students should hear both sides. I also went for Audio, so I am limited to my experience in that program.

The Vindicator This is so true! Although to be fair, most Bachelor of the Arts degrees have poor job placement no matter what field of concentration a student decides to aim at in the end. (Like English and History teachers, for instance... for every one job there are 400+ applicants, and some aspiring education majors get stuck working as teacher's aids and in daycare centers making nearly minimum wage). So yeah... anyway... FSU has a final pricetag of $75,000+ for a degree in film studies

It's funny that you mentioned Winter Soldier when one of the criticisms I've heard for this movie is "We want less Marvel movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and more like Winter Soldier." My question to all the people who thought Ragnarok should have been a dark, end of the world epic is, who the hell would have cared once Infinity War comes around? If every Marvel movie is super grave and dark and serious and intense, Infinity War will be less of an epic conclusion and more of just the same.
@TheGeorgeD137 жыл бұрын
Well, that means Infinity was HAS to be a very dark, end of the world epic. I have my doubts about that. I think Infinity War is likely to have more the same tone as Thor: Ragnarok than it will with Winter Soldier. And Infinity War, in my mind, should be darker than Winter Soldier.
@soraceant7 жыл бұрын
Lady Marmalade well the thing is it would have made the hype for infinity war even higher. We've had nothing but nonstop comedies for a while now even in movies where it shouldnt have been like doctor strange. People are tired of it and want a more balanced film. I've hated the marvel movies since they've gone this comedy route. Ever since age of ultron. Civil war was the last serious marvel film.
@PassTheMarmalade19577 жыл бұрын
"It would have made the hype for Infinity War even higher." Yes. And when movies get overhyped, they end up being disappointing. They can't endlessly produce earth-shatteringly serious movies one after the other and make each *even more dramatic* than the last. Eventually, you can't hype anymore. You get desensitized to the supposed threat, and the drama just becomes over the top and not convincing.

I couldn't help but notice that this video was sponsored by Full Sail University. As a former student, I feel that I should advice anyone looking to enter FSU to really think about their decision. FSU is not like any other school out there. It's a very accelerated program where you are expected to already possess a somewhat advanced skill set. If you're unprepared or fresh out of high school, you should take a leap year and get a job to prepare you for FSU. That's what Full Sail is like. It's more of a work environment than it is a school with a rather draconian attendance policy. You miss 1 day of class and don't have a valid excuse, its an automatic fail and you must pay to retake the class in full, upwards of $1200 for a one month class. You are expected to learn and grow in skill in a very accelerated rate, but I should also mention that most of the instructors are very helpful and supportive. They understand your struggle and will do all they can to help you improve. Case in point, if you fail a class because your artwork wasn't up to snuff, you'll retake the class completely free of charge. Full Sail is a tough school, they don't fuck around. The drop out rate is sky high (I'm one of them) and It takes a great level of commitment to see it through to the end. If you decide to go to FSU, commit to it, treat it as if it were your job, and you will succeed. I'm not bashing Full Sail. I genuinely think it's an amazing school and if you make it to the end, you will be among the best in your respective industry. Just know what you're getting into, don't make the same mistake I did and go in blindly. I highly recommend any potential Full Sailors to ask about the Extended Program, it takes an extra year to graduate, but you only take one class per month (they're 8 hours long) and you'll have enough time to commit and truly give it your all. The guys at FSU really are great and they'll do everything in their power to help you succeed, but you must give it your all.

While I enjoyed this movie I think there was simply too much emphasis on humour. Every single joke in the movie was hilarious but there were times when I wished during a serious scene that there wasn't three or four ridiculous jokes in a row. Also a bit of a shame that such a talented actress like Cate Blanchett was such a boring, generic MCU villain. You could tell she did her best and she was clearly loving being a villain but yet her introduction was very forced and her ambitions were the same as every other villain in most Marvel films. After almost ten years the only two great villain portrayals have been Tom Hiddleston and Michael Keaton (though Jeff Bridges and Kurt Russel were well above average)
@mlo0097 жыл бұрын
Jeff Bridges was excellent, a nice villain to kick start the MCU. Imagine if we have Red Skull, or worst, the Dark Elf from Thor 2 to kick start, holy shit, it wouldn't end well.
@marcushogan66137 жыл бұрын
Daniel Bruhl is a great actor but i thought his performance of Zemo was a bit lacking. Whether Loki is a great villain or not Tom Hiddleston brings great charisma to the role
@josephwright42227 жыл бұрын
I thought it was a fair villain. She had a lot of power that we saw. She basically was murdering the shit out of everything until Thor got his *spoiler* lightning power. And her motivation was fair. I do wish we got to see her destroy a whole race before the whole refugee plotline started but you can't fit everything into a movie
@marcushogan66137 жыл бұрын
It's Kinda the same though in every MCU movie. A villain appears out of nowhere and apparently has been a threat the whole time. They hold a grudge and plan on destroying everything. They're apparently undefeatable but get killed off at the end of the movie and never seen again.
@ronankelly63937 жыл бұрын
Slight bias but I always felt Ronan got a raw deal being labelled a crap villain. Thought he was quite good just outshone by how great all the Guardians were and not getting a lot of screentime. Stick him in Thor 2 and he wouldve nailed it I reckon.

To me they just took something that was known by fans, and everyone who liked the 1st time these two got it on in Avengers. There was a little too much humour for hardcore Thor fans, but I think they made a very fun romp of a film.

The biggest problems I have with the MCU is that the movies are generic and many feel like a one time watch. I personally have only rewatched to marvel films - Captain America 1, 2 and Spiderman Homecoming. The rest are a bunch of movies just mixed together as an enjoyable one time watch. Their not bad films I just think that many serve no purpose and when you have your next 10 movies planned out there really is no fear of death. Take Logan for example that had an ending or the Dark Knight Trilogy it had a purpose and eventually ended in a way that felt fulfilling. When I go watch Infinity War I know that no one is going to die because they need them for another 5 years. No Real reason to watch these films other then to see explosions and our favorite superheroes.
@tinal.55857 жыл бұрын
I think it's hilarious how you say "there aren't any stakes" then you list the movies you rewatched where no one dies except for Uncle Ben offscreen (Bucky and Nick Fury are thought to be dead but they 'come back' in a shock twist, no one dies in Homecoming.) And the MCU movies are for general audiences, they are tailored to appeal the mass instead of comic book fans. For example I thought Homecoming was average and really forgettable (the only things I remember are Vulture scenes, everything else feels like one of those teen Disney or Nickelodeon shows) and CA1 was so boring and slow. CA2 is good but I haven't watched it more than twice. However other movies like Iron Man, Guardians movies, Avengers, those are the ones I love and I can watch them again and not get tired. Someone else's favorite movie is Ant-Man and someone else loves Doctor Strange. It's a formula but it works well and is making billions. And you're wrong about the deaths, AoU has a death, GotG Vol. 2 has a death, GotG had a death (Groot got reborn but people still felt sad when it happened.) Logan is a tryhard 3edgy5me rip off of The Last of Us, The Road and Children of Men. It's the 'old gruff man gets his frozen heart warmed by kid' trope and its played out so much it's gotten stale. I've seen it so many times in media and Logan was a depressing slog that had a couple good action scenes but wasn't enough to be 'fresh'. Like why should I care if he died the universe he was in sucked anyway like... okay whatever. It has a million plot holes but people praise because it's rated R and 'dark' meaning it makes the audience feel Adult and Smart when it's just some dude with claws in his hands, big whoop. First Batman movie was realllllly slow and boring, I can't tell you anything about it other than Scarecrow and fear gas? And Liam Neeson is a kung fu master? The fuck? Dark Knight is very good but I have only seen it twice, it's elevated by Ledger's performance and death but aside from that it's just good, not great. And I do like DKR but it was kind of a slog to sit through, lots of weird plot issues and pacing and Idk what it was trying to say, rich people suck? So for me, Nolan's trilogy while being one of the few good things DC has put out, is 'good' but not worldchanging to me. Some MCU movies however are fun and I can enjoy watching them and they have heart and the characters grow and change, it's nice to watch that. I'm getting sick of the argument that characters NEED to die in order for the movie to be good. If no one dies in Infinity War or if it's a fakeout that would not surprise me. But it feels very 'edgy' to want a character to die. If they kill off minor characters people will get mad, if they kill off a major character like Cap or Tony some people will say "I don't want to watch anymore MCU movies." I just don't get the mentality of wanting to see a movie that will make me want to slit my wrists because everything sucks so Iron Man has to die.
@danielfilms36707 жыл бұрын
Christina L. The MCU isn’t bad like I said their a one time watch and that’s it the reason I can rewatch movies like logan or the Dark Knight is because those movies feel real like it every character has a purpose and you felt something when something bad happen to them but I didn’t feel bad for tony or cap or Peter because I know that anything they care about will be in the next Film or 2 5 to 10 years down the road
@LuminiousSky7 жыл бұрын
Well Marvel’s fact. No one is gonna die as long as they get paychecks and more sequels even Coulson is alive ( to run Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) so it is kinda like Disney’s logic
@Flaris7 жыл бұрын
That's just silly....do you only hang out with people that are going to die soon? Death is the only thing that interests you? Be it life or stories, they aren't interesting just because someone dies or might die. Logan wasn't a good movie because of the body count. It had a good character story in there, which is something you can put in plenty of MCU movies.

I liked how Thor, Hulk and Hela was portrayed. However, I would have liked to have seen more of Hela because it felt like she ruled Asgard in under 15 mins. The main flaw with this film is the comedy. There’s WAY too many jokes that just felt over the top, out of place and ruined the tone of scenes e.g. how am I supposed to emphasise with Asgard getting destroyed when Korg is making a joke out of it? In fact some of the jokes did make characters feel like a cardboard cut out of their usual selves. I never felt Loki was the god of mischief here because he was always getting fucked over. Thor made too many jokes and was barely serious throughout the whole movie. Also, what was the point in Skurge? He was so one dimensional and pathetic as the “executioner”, he didn’t deserve so much screentime. Odin’s death was rushed and so anti climatic that I barely cared. Now even though i said the comedy was the biggest flaw, some of the jokes were hilarious and this was by far the funniest and entertaining Thor film. My favourite joke was when Banner was asking if Hulk won against Thor. I don’t care about the drunk Valkeriye girl, besides the actor being hot. I hate how the writers try to dismiss Jane and Thor’s relationship with a passing comment of how they broke up. It’s not like we didn’t spend two movies introducing her as Thor’s main love interest, have him committing treason and risking his life in order to fight the Dark Elves to save her. What the writers SHOULD have done is have Thor being the one to break up with her, saying that they’re from two different worlds and that he cares about her so much that he doesn’t want anything bad to happen to her again. Then show Thor spending most of his time trying to protect the 9 realms in order to mask the depression he feels inside, which is why he wasn’t in Civil War. Thor 1> Ragnarok> The Dark World

Exactly! Half the time he reviews as a hard ass film critic, and the other half he is just a fanboy overlooking the real issues. I mean, I get it. It's his opinion, but when you grade movies like that, it comes off as very unprofessional. You should hold all movies at the same level, regardless of how much you like them. I love the Star Wars prequels, but I know that they are terrible movies. In fact, most of my favorite movies are not good movies. We all have our guilty pleasure films, and I won't judge anyone for what they like, but you need to acknowledge the flaws and push away your biases.

I too find Thor 1 underrated. But Ragnarok is just incredible.

For anyone wanting to peruse film, I went to Full Sail and my fellow classmate went on to work on Game of Throwns. It’s all about how serious you are. Apply yourself and the sky is the limit. It’s a great school! Good luck!
