Doni Amer I don’t think that’s true, he pretty much falls in line with most people’s personal expectations. He didn’t like the previous films so he wasn’t expecting much from this one, that makes sense. In other cases if a director he likes makes a film, he’d look forward to it

As a Belgian who's followed the careers of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah , it's nice to see they're succeeding in Hollywood. I was really nervous this movie was going to suck and tarnish their names forever (because they're actually quite unique and have their distinctive style), and even though I don't really give a shit about this franchise, I'm happy to see it's actually a pretty decent movie (for what it is).

I'm really surprised that you gave this movie a favorable review. The situations and characters reactions felt so forced. For example: the scene where Mike is in the Captains office, and the cap starts to get really excited before he pulls out some pepto. That execution seemed like a joke. Like the director was putting on a parody. Yeah, the Captain gets really stressed sometimes, and he takes pepto for his ulcer, but this scene wasn't stressful. And I feel like the directors knew that, but decided to use the prop anyway, because that was a part of what made the Captain who he was. Also, most of the characters other than the captain, Marcus and Mike seemed like throw-aways. I felt no connection to them. I feel like none of the relationships or the drama that occurred between characters was earned. I really don't understand how you think this movie gained something by using a different director. Michael Bay has a way better grasp on motivation and direction than the clowns that put this together.

He is now going to make a new American movie about the life of Erik Prince (Blackwater). Felix Van Groeningen (also Oscar nomination for The Broken Circle Breakdown) made a great movie, Beautiful Boy, with Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet. I am a middle aged person, old enough to watch and remember the first two. I was already an adult in 1995, and this one was nowhere near as good as 1& II. It felt watered down and was just "ok" compared to the previous ones. The timing was off when they tried to write it in that the first film was when they first became partners and started working together. Anybody that was there for the first one knows the original was scripted that they had been working with each other for quite a few years. New partners and new friends don't react to each other like that. I also didn't like them writing in Mike had a son nobody knew about who turns out to be the villain. Also he ended things with Marcus's sister from the second film when it was clear they were a good match and were going to get married. They shouldn't have, or didn't have to kill off the Captain either. Overall you can tell this film was made for a new generation and movie goers. It wasn't done for us older people who appreciate the magic the first two films captured. 2.5 Stars would be a good rating as it often gets.....not terrible, but not really all that good either.

I wasn't alive for the first one but I was a kid when the second one came out and most of what you say I agree with, this movie's still just as great in my opinion but the second one's still the shit, keepin' Syd there would've been a better idea as Mike's already middle aged and could've furthered that relationship he had with her into bein' married by now instead of some random Latin woman that has no purpose to their stories, I didn't mind Mike havin' a son cause it felt like an earned plot twist and provided a compellin' villain with an interestin' backstory, they didn't need to kill off the Captain either which is another issue but it still felt realistic, lookin' past nostalgia, Bad Boys II's still the one that I favour best.
