The problem I had was that unless you've watched The Animatrix and played Enter The Matrix, you wouldn't really understand who some of the characters are or what their purpose is. It causes disconnect for the casual viewer. Example: Kid saying "Neo, I believe" is a reference to Kid's Story from The Animatrix which tells the story of how he escaped. But it holds no weight in the actual movie.
@jarjared35225 жыл бұрын
When people are rewatching the sequels they aren't watching the Animatrix or playing a poorly put together video game. The expanded material should enhance the experience and not break it if you just watch the movies.

They had a grand vision of telling the story over multiple forms of media, but the problem wasn’t entirely due to that approach exclusively, but in the decision to exclusively give elements or details in one particular media form and exclude them from the films, which meant that if you missed any Matrix release, you weren’t getting all the details. Unfortunately, there are many references and unanswered questions that were ultimately never given because of many canceled projects that were originally intended to give those details. The second and third film were constantly referencing these other story elements without providing enough context for the audience to properly fill in these gaps. Even those that genuinely enjoyed the films and are trying hard to fully take in everything shown on screen but were either unaware of this multimedia approach, or couldn’t get hold any of the alternative media releases were left in a bewildered state after each reference that they had no context for. This meant that everyone is left in varying degrees of unfulfilment at the conclusion. It feels like you had left to take bathroom breaks during the scenes containing the details or answers to questions or problems shown earlier. This problem only grows with time since many of these alternative story telling methods become less available or their existence isn’t made known to new viewers and, if they do become aware of them, most have to resort to finding a written synopsis of all the various story elements to get what details they can, which obviously isn’t the intended way the Matrix story is meant to be discovered as each media form contains unique ways of giving the details to people. Each unique media form takes full advantage of the unique experience granted by that individual form and each particular story element told in its particular format is meant to be the ideal way to experience it. You lose the entertaining factor and intended emotional response that portion of the story was intended to invoke when referenced in the films. The story was spread out so much and ultimately leaves too many gaps resulting from cancelled projects that no one fully experienced the entire Matrix saga as intended, leading to a near universal feeling as if the films weren’t entirely finished since they are left full of unresolved plot points and unanswered mysteries.

I worked on Reloaded and Revolutions. It was probably one of the best film making jobs that I have worked on and I look back very fondly on the 12 months that I spent on it. Just walking onto those great sets was a massive buzz every day. However, I went travel backpacking after this job. I completely missed Reloaded's release, but I went to see Revolutions in the UK with a couple of friends, one a fellow film industry worker and the other an actor. I gotta say, I was dumbfoundedly disappointed. Some of the acting was so bad, it made me embarrassed to even be in the same room as it. We all worked so hard for so long because we loved The Matrix. The thing with the Wachowski's is that their basic overall ideas are really interesting. Super creative and different concepts. But then they get lost in the details with bad directing, editing and story structure. They need to just come up with the big idea, then hand it off to a real writer and director to make a cohesive story. There was something interesting hidden inside Jupiter Ascending, but it just got crushed under it's own weight. Same with these movies.

To this day, I still love the sequels to The Matrix. The biggest problem it has is what the Wachowski’s did with these two films, releasing them back to back, a few months from each other, during the same year. So yeah, these were incredibly rushed. But the best thing about these to me, besides the incredible choreography, is Don Davis’ score. The last cues on the score in Revolutions are some of the most impactful, dramatic, and emotional cues I’ve ever heard in a score. And the lyrics in ‘Neodammerung’ make the scene feel more weighted.

I interpreted the ending completely differently. When Smith absorbs Neo, he has no purpose left because he's assimilated everything else in the Matrix, and therefore dies, due to his lack of a purpose now that Neo is defeated. Or another interpretation I've seen is that Neo is Alpha and Smith is Omega, they are complete opposites that when merged together cause a combustion, which kills all the remaining Smith's.

The problem with both The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions is a simple one. Everyone expects these movies to be as good as the first... That's basically impossible. Well apart from Terminator 2. Love the last fight scene at the end of this. It was just epic. I'm so excited for the next film now it's being made. I think they've learnt from their mistakes. Well, let's hope!!!

When the sentinels break through to Zion, my jaw literally dropped in the cinema. It was truly spectacular. . But the rest of the movie was pretty forgettable

I know Neo had no way of knowing or believing that Agent Smith could come into the real world, but when that guy was speaking to him in the same vocal pattern as Smith AND calling him Mr Anderson (since Smith is THE ONLY PERSON who calls him that) it was really fustrating to watch Neo take so long to realise who it was.

For real! As a viewer you immediately know it’s smith but Neo just keeps going on and on and on…

I definitely wish they went into Smith taking over the Matrix being the highest of stakes by the end a little more. by the time Neo jacks in from the Source I almost forgot about the entire angle (maybe killing his real world Bane avatar made me subconsciously feel like 'well he's taken care of'). There's probably a decent short film or mini series to be made focusing on Smith rejecting deletion and leading up to the final DBZ boss fight. Perhaps this was something they planned to do, or even did in one of the games or comics that I never picked up.

The last two matrix movies came out both in 2003 right? like 3 months apart, I wonder what that was like, cause I've never since a movie do that before.

It's a great movie, for a movie that has the Matrix name in its title it hardly featured the Matrix, I just see it as more of an extended version of Matrix Reloaded, as in Matrix Reloaded part 2 therefore I don't consider it a third movie
@avace91718 күн бұрын
I JUST realized that Smith says Neo once per movie. In the interrogation room in the Matrix. When he dropped off the envelope in Reloaded. And finally when the Oracle speaks through him in Revolutions as you mentioned

I'm a big fan of The Matrix films that I made a cuts of Reloaded and Revolutions, which combine the films with The Animatrix and the Enter The Matrix video game. I call them Reloaded Remixed and Revolutions Remixed. Revolutions Remixed is the more ambitious of the two remixes. It is a celebration of the merging of live-action and animation, including CGI, anime, rotoscoping, and machinema! The scenes from the Enter The Matrix video game are intercut with the scenes from Revolutions, and do an excellent job at filling in context of the film.

My opinion on the matrix trilkogy Matrix - One of the most revolutionary movies in history effects wise and just a great Sci fi packed with intresting digital world and and fun action: 9/10 Matrix Reloaded - Definetely steps down from its predecessor but like Chris mentioned it is a movie you could just watch for the popcorn value of it so to say, keeps you entertained : 6/10 Matrix Revolutions - Just felt so mediocre from start to finnish and has some of the most boring big budget action sequences in my opinion and makes the matrix franchise end on a sour note , juts plain bad: 3/10

I just wish Marvel/Disney movies were held to the ridiculously high standard that Chris uses here to review matrix revolutions. Compared to the plethora of garbage movies of today that have shitty stories and rely heavily on nothing more than awkward humor, the matrix revolutions is actually a masterpiece. At least it has an interesting story that keeps the audience hooked, so hooked that even Chris was able to find all the gaps and inconsistencies.

I just really hate when critics say that they fall short in the screen writing. I'd be willing to bet that there isn't one movie critic on the planet that could do a better job than they did. Regardless whether the movie was sub par or not. If the story is so deep that it's criminal not to acknowledge its genius. This movie even though it has its shortcomings yeah it's still better than 90% of the movies that come out today.

I'm not saying i did major research on the subject, but if - like you say - you did, you would know that APUs did have armor initially but this proved to be ineffective as sentinels would maneuver around them pretty easily and would incapacitate both the machine and it's controller. Removing the armor, however, reduced the total weight and allowed better mobility.
