That's the thing though - they don't need to be perfect at public speaking as long as they can get their point across. They aren't releasing a shiny new Apple product or talking about a new car line, they are talking about a minute concept for a specific platform. When you get into topics that are that niche the audience is basically expected to lower their expectations a bit because of how detailed and specific that topic is. It doesn't excuse the lower quality of their presentation, but given how niche the concepts that are being discussed are, it is much more understandable at least.

Just letting you guys know they went with in game RMT because it so much easier to track things like - How you attained the cash How possible it is in game logic to attain said cash (such as intermediate logic checks like - did player a attack said npc for item, or attained materials to craft, also having a unique ID set by the server that doesn't call from the client is a good way to check) The bank/account/paypal being associated to cheating, etc. and Tons more, with more people speaking up about the hacks they used, it sets a new bar for hackers to succeed. I would like to add, by hacking (and I'm no anti-hactivist) you are actually allowing companies to attain the rights to snoop and or downright track all information sent by your clients, your programs, pretty much your entire network. These guys MAY say that game developers are "naive" they are wrong. A lot of game developers leave open code in the game, they do so to find and weed out the potential hackers. When a game is released, nobody can really have anything that can give them a leg up. With hackers, they find the immediate function that can be addressed and modify it. This is EASILY seen when using an authoritative server and can be used later legally. My point is, yeah you can make a lot of money hacking and exploiting. But it is extremely easy for the developers, who have experience in their OWN source code to see what is happening. Hackers only have a small portion or a basic picture of all the work behind the scenes but they do NOT have access to the authoritative servers or the back ups on databases unless they do some serious attacks on the server. This is also very easy to confirm and will net you actual jail time. All in all, Video game piracy, RMT hacks, client snoop/ packet adjustments, are all very easy to confirm. A lot of hackers make the misconception that if they don't get an immediate response from the server such as a ban notice or disconnect, then it is safe to proceed. Game developers will set traps along the way and set dummy code to entice the hacker to trigger the trap. This can be done by creating a dummy script with named variables, then a proxy script to deal with the variables before sending away to server. There are many more ways to detect than to hack. Keep that in mind if you are young and are serious about exploiting. I would agree with most to say that, with todays tools, its much easier to just make your own game create a legit and resourceful revenue stream through that. Video games started grossing well over hollywood revenues in mid 2008, we've come along way. Hackers have too. But unfortunately for them, with the way the worlds going, they will have no security of their own when trying to do their business and will suffer serious reactions. Again, I recommend you make your own games. Things like steam are available for people under the radar and can easily net you fame and legitimacy. Your customer base will also be of normal folk, and not shady players who could just as easily be hacking you for your money just as you are hacking the game for its money. Hackers are the one being "naive" in these situations.

The part I wish this talk had was more info about the analytics systems the major MMO shops have in place, typically. I mean, back in the day, a game like SWG in 2003, we duped our asses off, and nobody knew about it. Duped items, currency, everything. Nowadays though, I think most major MMO's have some kind of analytics in place that say "ok, this guys account had a major currency spike", or "ok, this guy is in possession of x amount of this rare item, which is worth x value, this is abnormal". You can go on the EVE forums any day of the week and see a guy crying that he got his walled set to negative ISK because they think he received ISK from a known farmer. Obviously, these questions would be pretty difficult to answer unless you've worked on a major MMO recently, but from being banned from MMO's recently, it's reasonable to guess there are some kind of systems in place to automatically flag players for suspicious activity.
ELK stack, statsd, graphite, custom analytic tools for warnings Hourly reports for outliers. But you don't want to rely on an automatic ban system for such things...

According to what Mercury said at the time (in the Glider forums), Blizzard actually came after him pretty hard. He said that when their lawyers showed up, he immediately offered to shut down Glider, but that wasn't good enough for them and they were pretty hell-bent on wringing some unreasonable amount of money out of him. I think he mentioned how much money they were trying to demand from him, but I don't recall what it was after all these years. In any case, it was an amount that he considered to be unacceptable, so he changed Glider's pricing model in order to raise funds for a big legal battle, and tried to fight them. I'm guessing that the reason they came after him so hard was to set an example. The guy was publicly selling his bot, as a legally registered business, and making millions of dollars. If they had let it continue, that would encourage other people to do the same. If Blizzard didn't make a very loud public stand against something like that, it would send a bad message to the player base. If he had just been selling his bot from the shadows, they probably wouldn't have been so inclined to come after him.

A random guy with knowledge of how to code a software starts to work on a random project and decides to share a source code along the way with someone else who improves it and does the same thing until someone picks it up and finishes. There are no forums that you can google for that will teach you this stuff, because it's all done by programmers. If you know how to create a software of somewhat complex nature, you can figure out how to make almost anything. Granted you will need some minor help and tips, which can be found around the surface web,but the chances are it will be scattered across hundreds of different forums, which means you will need to know where to look,in which case you will need friends who can point you in the right direction. In short: If you don't know how to write your own software, and you don't know where to go to look for tips and tricks, there is no way for you to start out,at least not if you're expecting to achieve something in next 3 or 5 years.

***** Depending on whom you ask and who you are, it's tough to begin with. Java or python is simple and could be your first langage the first few months. :)

the squeeze network trick is BS nowdays since they use player location on the server end which is why you rubber band back to where the server last saved your position regardless of where you are now - ex: Path of Exile

So this guy feels bad about exploiting players in age of conan for money by stealing their items, but he doesn't feel bad about stealing from NPCs and then reselling those items for a profit... Even though that's taking advantage of the people developing the game. And also in the long run ruining the game experience for the players.

Okay so if you go to the website where the guy on the left's email is hosted, the WOW website comes up. They must've bought his domain
