Both Socrates Scholasticus and Origen failed miserably in their attempts to refute Emperor Julian and Celsus, having just finished reading Against the Galileans I can say confidently that there is no intellectual escape hatch through which the Abrahamics can flee his brutally scathing destruction of their middle-eastern nonsense.

Would be very interested in hearing what Julian commented on Marcus Aurelius.

In the Caesars Julian does not scoff at Marcus Aurelius, or most of the emperors there. He holds them in high respect, and the work concludes with Julian concluding that Marcus Aurelius was the best of all the emperors. The only emperors he speaks negatively of in that book are ones that were almost universally agreed to be bad emperors, like Caligula and Nero.

"But the heathen before they believe, cannot understand: for it is a divine oracle that declares, 'Unless ye believe, assuredly ye shall not understand." ^ *This* is their excuse for the fact that Jesus - both the historical one and the one of faith - did not fulfill *any* of the Messianic prophecies of the Hebrew bible / Old Testament.

In most (if not every way) Jesus is quite the opposite of the messiah the Jews were waiting for

Ha ha , just working on a new one on the Northern Crusades Jerry. I'm a learner on doing animation and showing maps with moving arrows and changes - that's why it's taking longer than I would like. its a good learning exercise though so hopefully I'll be able to produce videos a lot faster in future. Hope to get this new video - a primer on the Northern Crusades - out later this week ;) So not long for the next one!

Cringe. His last words were the best thing he ever said. "Thou hast conquered, Galilean".

Always sounded a bit melodramatic to me. There were very few people with him at his death.
@klidouxos Жыл бұрын
Modern historians agree that this phrase is most probably a fake, invented by christian chronographers some centuries after the death of Julian. However, we must consider the last words that attest 2 chronographers of the time, who they had spoken with a soldier who was present at the tent in which the emperor died. Thus, his real last words should be; Ἥλιε, ἀπώλεσας Ἰουλιανόν which means Oh Helios, you killed Julian.
