The whole part about the dad being away because he's in the military, and the mom losing her job, so they have to move is hilarious to me. Assuming the parents are married, the dad will absolutely be making enough money to keep the family where they are with dependent pay, BAH/BAS, and separation pay...Just because he's away on deployment doesn't mean he's not getting paid. If anything, they simply could have said that the dad has to move because of his job and that would have been fine lol

Also is dad gonna come back from deployment and show up at an empty house with his family nowhere to be found? Like wtf lol

As someone who was raised Christian and goes back and forth about it to this day, I’ve never understood the concept of making “our own” version of whatever the latest hot thing is. You wanna watch High School Musical, watch High School Musical. Whats the difference? It’s a kid’s movie, it’s not offensive, so who cares? What’s the point? If anything that is not explicitly Christian is at least a little evil, or at least not as good as the “Christian” version, then you’d better sell your car, because I guarantee there isn’t a “Christian” version of it. And your phone. And your light bulbs. Anyone who panics about anything being dangerous unless it’s absolutely made by someone of their faith doesn’t need a church, they need a psychiatrist for their paranoia. I’m glad the churches I went to growing up never bought into this crap.
@markdaniel96578 ай бұрын
I think the point is simply to make subpar versions to sell to hardcore christians who are hellbent on showing their kids nothing but christian media. Cuz that market is lucrative enough for the makers of these to forgo all quality checks.
@tarotsushima33328 ай бұрын
It's the whole paranoia around 'the corrupting effects of secular media' while refusing to acknowledge that most of it's super entertaining. It's why so many of them are Christian soapboxes first and actual media with entertainment value second.

The problem with Christian movies is that they're always extremely melodramatic, and poorly thought out, and the solution is always God and Jesus, even if the protagonists are dickwads, as long as they're with god all their actions will be ultimately justified with the narrative bending over itself to make them be right above everyone else.

As a Christian who grew up in the environment that produced this movie and others like it, the part about "be yourself" and "do your own thing" made me laugh. Those were fighting words in my part of the church. After all, the Bible says "the heart of man is desperately wicked" (no context, of course) and that our "true selves" are disgusting and infected with sin (again, Bible verses ripped out of context, but anyway...). If my mom had ever heard of this movie, she would have paused it at that moment to interject about that. UUUGGGHHHH I'm so glad I got out of that.

I mean, the gaslight when the mom lost her job is super realistic. When my family was homeless, at some point my mom was able to get a car despite being in the homeless shelter. When she told the church about it during the sermon thingy where they talking bout their blessings- Everybody cheered when the paster said they got new shoes or whatever. But when my mom spoke- everybody was dead quiet. :) So yeah, love the realism.

I’m a Christian and I go to church every Sunday and I cannot stand a lot of these Christian movies. I absolutely hate movies like God’s Not Dead and Fireproof. Too many of them promote right wing politics. The same goes with these Christian radio stations and Christian TV networks. I’m a progressive Democrat and I take too kindly to conservative politics at all. The sad thing is that Christianity is frequently disfigured into conservative politics and American conservatism and is used to promote unchristian values such as building a border wall, free market capitalism, screaming bible verses at other people and telling them that they’re turning their backs on God and they’re gonna burn in hell, bashing the LGBTQ+ community, carrying around picket signs and yelling “God hates gays”, opposing abortion, protesting in front of abortion clinics and yelling “you’re murdering babies”, legislating morality, taking away social security from the elderly, and even advocating for capital punishment. That is not Christianity at all. This is why I believe it’s so important to speak up for what Jesus actually taught in the Bible and this really comes to how WAY out of touch conservative opinions are with the teachings of Jesus. If you want to watch a Christian movie, stick with the likes of The Prince Of Egypt, Joseph King Of Dreams, The Nativity Story, The Ten Commandments, Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, the King Of Kings movie, Son Of God, or any other classic movie based of a particular bible story unless it’s the Passion of the Christ. I would never recommend that gawd awful Passion Of The Christ. It is littered with antisemitism as well as homophobia. That movie honestly needs to be banned. Anyway, there are also plenty of movies out there that have little to do with religion that can be used to teaching the Christ’s message such as Toy Story or Shrek. Heck even High School Musical can used in the same manner. There’s also still a handful of good Christian movies even with all the crappy ones that exists out there

What really annoys me about most Christian media is that they don’t even care about making a good and entertaining story, but basically just make the one hour sermon you listen to at church. The only ACTUALLY good Christian movie I’ve seen recently was a production by Angel Studios called ‘The Shift’. It basically takes the main premise of a certain bible story, and reimagines it as a sci-fi/dystopian adventure. AND THIS MOVIE WAS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD! I’m saying this as a Christian myself! I highly recommend this to even non-Christians, as I do think that anyone can enjoy it if they give it a watch!😊
