I used to have these beliefs. Now I realise how dumb it is. You basically appropriate different culture's by taking "whatever resonates" and leaving what doesn't. You also get told that there are multiple truths/dimensions to discourage you from finding out the real truth which is Jesus Christ. The devil is a liar!

May I ask you a question? If the real truth is Jesus Christ, what can you say about time before Christianity? Hinduism is clearly an older "religion" and seems to be based on "universal" principles. With that being said, as Hinduism is 5,000 or so years old... What would a seeker go to believe 6,000 years ago? Would the path of universal principle through personal study of love/light not be sufficient? And if it IS/WAS sufficient, wouldn't it still be viable today? Respectfully, I am a seeker and am curious to hear what Christian faith has to say about this. Thank you.

The bible tells us that God choose the specific time and place that you would be born so that all men could seek Him and find Him. The vast majority of people to ever exist have been born after Christ. People born before then would be judged based on what they know. It says in the bible that God put the commandments on everyone's heart, it's called the conscience. You know when you are supposed to repent. God is a fair judge. What a blessing to be born after Christ because through Him we are no longer a slave to sin but are set free. To be born again is a real, spiritual experiences. You receive a new heart with new desires. I never wanted to be a Christian but God called me and I couldn't deny the Truth any longer. God is calling you too. The time is now. He's saying 'come home prodigal, I love you'. God wants you to be a His child not just His creation. You just need to accept his invitation. Love your “God” with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. 2. Love your neighbor as your”self”. Now, we all know that a person does not know how to love another unless they know how to love themselves first, otherwise it wouldn’t be genuine love. Secondly, why couldn’t Jesus say about the second commandment: Love your neighbor as you love God? He didn’t say that, right?. Rather, the second commandment it was premised on you having loved yourself first!!! But when did Jesus ever command to love yourself ? No where! But he did say to love YOUR GOD. What’s the difference between God and Self ? None. God knows all of ours thoughts, secrets, struggles, stories. Our Self knows all of our thoughts, secrets, struggles, stories. Unless you find a scripture where Jesus said to love yourself, you 1. Have no basis to follow the second commandment and 2. You’ll have to accept that Your God is Your Self, yourself. In other words, Jesus was absolutely an archetype for our highest self just as the new age followers believe. What’s wrong with a new age? If we are to be born again, why can’t the age be born again also? New life, new age.

I totally appreciate the argument and honestly I am open to it. I enjoy hearing the argument of both sides personally. He brought up some good points. But on the other hand, this kid obviously has NO idea about his own beliefs. There are answers that came to mind about most of the questions asked. He just has no idea. I used to be christian until I truly began to study it historically and spiritually. I would really enjoy a conversation with the man speaking. As he seems to have actually done some homework and put thought into this age old debate. Cheers.

Bob, I'm a little concerned to see you quoting from the show Friends. hahaha This was a good discussion not so much because the guy was really engaging with you because he was afraid to really stand for anything save some vague notions of tolerance and pacifism but because it highlighted some of the weaknesses of his coexist/oneness/pantheism mindset. I was wondering how the conversation would have gone if the morality problem was raised. I suspect it would have went into subj v. obj morality stds and he would be afraid to tell anyone they are wrong. But as you pointed out, he was taking an arrogant position claiming he was right and you were wrong.

Jacob, I am not the most educated on this but I am trying to learn. Before Christianity GOD revealed himself through personal interactions with humans also John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD" The Word was Jesus so Jesus was here since the BEGINNING. I agree, it's sad that this indivdual cannot see himself in the mirror Christ has placed before us. As he says himself, he is not trying to convert this man, as he is a full cup. So it seems his intention is to stand on s street corner with many words to be seen as glorious in the eyes of men, he has his reward. He calls the man a hypocrite and tells him he has pride and wants to be right, when the man has stated many times, anyone can believe what they like to, it doesn't seem like he is trying to enforce his perception onto others, but he is only explaining how he sees his reality because he is being asked. But the Christian is actually doing all the things he is accusing the other. I am more concerned for his soul, as it comes across extremely pharisee like. We are all one in Christ, Christ does abide within us, Christ is the Word that is given to us as The Holy Spirit and this spirit does teach us from within. I agree with the man on the left, I would have loved to have been here because I could have backed him up with scripture from the bible. Although I find it sad that because different terms are used, for the same concept, people immediantly refuse to accept another. This man is very rude with his approach, he is certainly not doing this out of love for the soul of the other, I see little patience from him, only motive is to film this, upload it, and then get his glory from other men who watch and try to make this guy look like a fool in the process where people berate him in the comments calling him dumb. I can't imagine that Jesus would do such a thing. I do not agree when Christians create this perception of the faith because it pushes people away, their words are like loud-sounding trumpets or a clanging cymbals because there is no love. We are supposed to fish men, not lead them into a bottomless pit. I do not see any seeds that bear fruit.

You could consider me a " New Ager" in that I'm "spiritual" but don't belong to an orgnized religion. I could debate this far better than that guy, (no offense to him). I know how to back up my beliefs with logic, rational, scientific literature, personal spiritual experiences etc. As far as oneness, all he had to say was "When you look at the fabric of everything in our reality, matter, at its core its all energy, that then coelesces into atoms, molecules, etc). He is right in that its a scientific fact that everything at its core is "one".

I’ve been into both New Age and Christianity. I can see both of your point of views, and I can respect both. If you don’t practice meditation, then it will be hard to understand oneness. It’s like trying to explain to a fish he lives in water. On the surface we are separate, but under the surface, we are all connected. Jesus said he is the Way, the Truth, the Life is referring to his divine oneness. If the spiritual new age guy was describing his oneness, then by default, he is a follower of Christ. If the Christian doesn’t understand oneness, than how can he call himself a follower of Christ? You can talk about Jesus, but if your not following his commands then it’s fruitless. Drugs are needed to escape reality (like all other addictions). What I hear is that the guy is clean from drugs, but still doesn't want to accept reality. And I understand him, because... reality cannot fill the emptiness inside you (Ecclesiastes 1:2), because... There is a limitless hole within us that only the limitless God can fill. Within us is the knowledge of eternity in the form of the immortal soul (Ecclesiastes 3:11), and this knowledge reaches out to the Eternal God. I don't know what's wrong with this guy now. I'm glad he got over his addiction, but it's time to fill himself with the Truth (Matthew 12:43-45). And then the Truth will make you truly free (John 14:6, John 8:32). Thank God that I no longer walk in darkness...

The guy is partly right in saying that we are one and that Jesus is his hook to rely on (Galatians 3:28, John 15:5), but he does not know Christ, so this knowledge does not give him anything. If he knew, he would have one Truth - Christ. For outside of God, there is no truth, but only opinion (1 Corinthians 3:19, Romans 10:3, 2 Corinthians 4:4).

The christian guy is a little bit short sighted in that he says " you can clearly see that I'm not one with the tree". Thats a false belief created by the perception of the senses. The Human senses are meant to create an illusion of separation so you can operate functionally in the world. In deep states of meditation/prayer ( as theyve scientifically studied with Buddhist Monks and the Nuns of Saint Francis of Assissi) they've shown that the part of your brain that "perceives" the world as separate parts actually goes away (the part of your brain that recognizes spatial awareness/even time). An experience of "Oneness" is described by both the Catholic Nuns (they call it union with God) and with the Buddhist (who instead call it Nirvana). Of course the terminology one uses is not important, but the experience itself. So oneness is a reality that can be experienced first hand. This experience has many names all referring to the same thing (Christ Consciousness, Nirvana, Cosmic Consciousness, Union With God/Allah/ (insert your God's name). Many different mystics (whether Christian, Sufi Mystic (the mystical branch of Islam), Eastern Yogis, Western Mystics have all experienced this. So yes, everything is one and your "inability" to perceive that is merely an illusion created by the physical brain apparatus. Modern Neurology is also very clear that we hallucinate our reality (sounds interesting right, that modern neurologist say the same thing that Buddhists have been saying for thousands of years?). Color doesn't exist objectively, but as light bounces off object and enters the optic nerve through the Rods/Cones and through complex chemical reactions, the brain then creates the experience of red, blue, any other color. Most of what we perceive, including "separateness" is only a function of the brain, and if you alter that function, you see quite literally a different world.

What the New Ager is trying to express is that the universe is ultimately non-dual, but each of us individually experiences consciousness from a dualistic perspective with the illusion of separation. Oneness is Brahmanism, the irreducible essence of God that flows throughout all of reality. It is the Ain Soph of Kabballah. The Atum of ancient Egypt. The Monad of the Greeks. etc. His point was that our sensory experiences can NOT be trusted. Does the bible say that personal experience is the highest form of understanding? Because thats what gnostics believe, Bob.
