It's not JUST a song, it's OUR National Anthem...its meaning is deep, not to mention the many lives sacrificed throughout the years in the eternal struggle to live by the principles that reside within its lyrics. It's not meant to be worshipped or forgotten, and it points to something that never existed in this world, and made so beautiful and precious especially because it was hard earned by those who died for it so that we all may continue to enjoy its ever fragile existence. The National Anthem is bigger than any pop superstar, and If anyone is going to sing it, then they should rename it THEIR version of the National Anthem. There are infinite songs that are sung many ways but there is only one way to sing The United States National Anthem.

Remember when she messed up the national anthem at the Superbowl that one time and everyone in America got pissed at her for it? She did good this time and has redeemed herself. I feel like Christina can really sing, but it sounds like she is always forcing a heavy sounding tone to her voice. I don't know about anyone else, but I wish she would just SING in her natural voice and stop with all the growling, deepening of her tone, and all the trillion runs she does in just one phrase. Sometimes those things sound unnatural, to me, when she does them. She needs to just let the vocal aerobics come naturally. Plus, she's gonna mess up her vocals in the long run if she doesn't change her technique and practice singing better from her diaphragm.

I mean, she does have a 'fake' tone because it's obviously forced, but I guess people have grown accustomed to it... and they like it. But I agree, she must stop. Her voice (at 30+) is steadily deteriorating. She can't hold out a note, she strains herself too much. Sorry for putting it this way, but she comes off as show-off-ish instead of being genuine. She does have a great voice. In 'Say Something', where her voice isn't strained that much (well, I think it isn't), it was SOO beautiful. I want to hear her sing mellow rather than this screaming and growling too much. That comment isn't meant to be offensive. I'm just saying it as it is.

But I think why Whitney's version is always claimed as the best is because she didn't have to any extra vocals or crazy riffs which is what Christina is known for...Some people think it's too much.
