I think a clear shift in your mindset is that you have curated a wardrobe that you love and use. Not just inspired by what you saw online or who your fantasy self was. You've also said in previous videos that some pieces might look similar to outsiders but it makes sense for you. That is what matters overall.

I find it very calming when someone has a generally similar look most of the time. I love the fact that when I watch your videos I can expect denim, black blazer, moto jacket, black or white tee and boots or sneakers. I can imagine youtubers feel some pressure to have fresh looks but to me that is totally unnecessary. Influencers who post very different outfits just make me feel tired and overwhelmed. People around me think they are adding variety by having similar clothes in different colors, but they look the same and I always think they should have stuck to their best colors..I love clothes but would like to be remembered in my best outfits instead of remembered for the wide variety of outfits I have.

For me it’s color, texture, layers, and shoes. I have the same basic outfit formula: short sleeved dolman-style top with skinny jeans. But I can make that fancy with a leather jacket and heeled boots, professional with a blazer, or casual with sneakers and a denim jacket. I also love mixing and matching the color of my shirt with the color of my layer and/or shoes. And I incorporated some different textures in my tops since I mostly wear solids. It makes for a lot of fun different combinations depending on how I’m feeling that day!

I never thought I was a fashion person but when I found myself with lots of random impulse purchases, I realised I had been approaching my personal style in the wrong way. No, I'm not a fashion person but I like to look good. Now that I have a small, 17-piece interchangeable wardrobe, no, I don't have lots of options but I know I will look good in all of my combinations. So that's my personal style all sorted out and good to go. No, I don't have new and exciting pieces all the time, but on the other hand, I never feel uncomfortable, mismatched or insecure in my outfits. Having that limited, well-curated wardrobe frees up my energy for stuff that actually makes me grow as a person, like observing and exploring my surroundings instead of worrying about how I look :)

I think the last thought is the most important. Be thankful you have (beautiful) clothes because there are some who are not so lucky. Overconsumption is insane, nowadays there is rapid fashion not fast fashion, with cheap materials and underpaid labours. Buy good quality clothes and be a proud outfit repeater! Thanks Christina, you made a really good video (as always)! ❤️

All your ideas are great! One other thing I thought about is taking time to care for a particular item like mending, treating a stain, ironing. It reconnects me to this item and reduces desire to shop. I think it's about taking the time with your wardrobe that helps to curb the impulse shopping. Thank you for the great video!!

I find too that taking care of my clothes: ironing, hanging, steaming, hand washing.... keeps me connected to what I have. I personally am not minimalist in my wardrobe. I have a lot of things I wear often and keep tabs on what I wear and feel best in. I actually rotate those to the back of my closet after a wear and keep things fresh that way with having a little more than a typical minimalist may have. I am still refining my style too so rotation is a great way for me to determine: would I rather dig into the back of my closet for something than wear what is up front and easy to grab? I love wearing things around the house too. If I am just home, I still get fully dressed and ready to go... with the exception of wearing shoes all over the house all day, and see how I feel in things and if they are practical/functional in style, fabric, fit, etc. for my life. Thank you for another great video! You encourage me to go to my closet rather than Poshmark after watching ;)

I have aprox. 50 items of clothing, 15 pairs of shoes and 5 handbags for all occasions, and enough underwear for about 3 weeks of dressing without having to do laundry. I get dressed in an outfit that matches what I'm feeling + my activities for that day with whatever is clean. This way I challenge myself to use what I have, come up with different outfit combinations, and also keep tabs of my favorite pieces in my closet, as well as the neglected ones. Then I make an effort to use the neglected pieces on the next 3 week rotation. Usually the last week of the rotation when my options are "limited" is when I have the most fun!

I love your videos and your style! It's really easy for me to get stuck in the mindset that my wardrobe has to be really loud or "high fashion" to be good enough (which doesn't suit me or my lifestyle at all). I watch a lot of fashion vloggers and start to think I should break out of my comfort zone and be more experimental with colors, patterns, textures, cuts, etc. But every time that never feels like me, and I have to accept that I'm not just playing it safe - I truly enjoy keeping things simple and chic. I don't feel the need for my clothes to make a statement or express some deep part of me. Wearing clothes that really flatter your body, in which you look visibly comfortable with yourself is enough of a statement anyway.

I think the biggest factor in not getting bored with my wardrobe is having 4 different seasons. I will get bored with my clothing for 2 weeks and then it’s time to put some of them into storage and take out thick clothing or breezy dresses. I like to keep some items from the season just passing and mix them with the “new” ones i hang up

(so here is where i will add things to my cart/wishlist and assess it, or create pinterest moodboards) i have been clearing out the clothing that is too big and frumpy on me now to make room for a more curated wardrobe. i def want to go more the capsule wardrobe with the timeless basics but add in some fun and funky pieces here and there as long as they can coordinate with my clothes :)

I've downsized a lot since my divorce. However, I buy 2 or 3 pieces each season to spiff up my wardrobe. I just got a great designer belt at my favorite consignment shop. But, I was taking in a bag of dresses to sell and spotted a white silk shirt with black embroidery of flowers and immediately thought of your wardrobe. I tried it on and BAM, it's now mine. I'm saving it for a Christmas party. I'm going to wear it with my black velvet jeans and fancy booties. If you ever get to a point where you need to replace a worn out piece, I recommend taking a look at second hand. I only buy a few things each season, but what I do find is different from every one else. I'm not wearing the soccer Mom uniform of classics like my peers. Anyway, just wanted to mention my gorgeous YSL silk blouse I got for a song... oh, and my, new to me, Gucci belt. 🙂

When it comes to layering there are so many ways to switch it up. What I like to do is wearing the longsleeved piece under another piece. You can go for a more 90ies look with a dress over a longsleeve or a little more punk with a band tee over a longsleeve with detailed sleeves like stripe patterns or materials like lace.

One thing I’m realizing for myself in my simple wardrobe is I do need to have more categories of clothes. When I started I wanted everything to work for everything, but that just really hasn’t been working for me. I basically have “working from home clothes” and “going to an event/night out clothes” but I have been shopping for these like minimalist wardrobe “basics” which frankly work for neither occasion for me 😅. I work from home and that has definitely shifted my wardrobe needs.

Thank you for completely changing my mindset about my wardrobe!

I just returned a full asos order because I didn’t like anything in it (mainly because a lot of the stuff didn’t look the way it did on the website or just didn’t fit) normally I would just deal with it and try to make them ‘work’ because I liked the pieces individually even if I didn’t like the way they looked on me. Now I’m just of the mindset if I don’t like it I’m returning it because I deserve to like what I bought and to get money back if I didn’t

Love the tip to "Play dress-up" with your own clothes. I did that exact same thing today. My repeat formula is jeans, button downs and sneakers (although it's getting colder now in Norway so sneakers are being replaced with boots). I keep myself from getting bored by having different colours and cuts on my button donws. Sure they're all oversized, but the cut is lightly different. I have a small colour palette so I don't get overwhelmed but 5-6 button downs in different colours gives me variety and choice. Also jewellery!

I respect people who go this route but I personally never could do it. I love getting dressed in fun clothing with lots of options. I tried going more minimalist in the past and learned it's pretty much the same (if not more) amount of work as it is to just keep tidy and organized with lots of variety. I did downsize on the amount of things I have other than clothes but still kept so much that no one would ever think of me as a minimalist. I just love color and interesting things. 💕 However, I love watching these videos! 🥳 Also, one thing I do is bin some of my clothes and trade out occasionally. I have a lot of clothes but I do love all the pieces and wear them all. 🥰

I think you make a great point. Loving all my pieces and wearing them all as you said is the key for me. Right now that means I have a small wardrobe, and it probably will always mean that. I just like being able to grab whichever top I'm feeling and which ever bottoms fit the occasion and I'm done. It's so simple for me. Takes very little brain power and the results are rewarding to me, because I feel good in every outfit. It's taken several declutters and purchases on thredup over a couple years to refine my taste, and now I think I finally reached the wardrobe I always wanted. I'll always be adding and removing a few pieces here and there, but I'm just very happy with myself and what I've accomplished with my wardrobe. It supports me and my needs for comfort, fulfillment, and expression.

I also have a small and very neutral wardrobe. I think the gratitude is key. And I think paying special attention to fit, quality, and textures helps too. I’m 5’1” so getting something petite or having it tailored makes it feel more special. Same with having beautiful fabrics like silk, 100% high-quality cotton, wool, cashmere, etc. Edit: obviously I mean the quality and fabrics as something to look for when building a wardrobe or replacing pieces, not as an excuse to shop. I get less bored of my clothes because I was careful to pick great pieces to begin with. But having something tailored to fit better helps refresh excitement about an existing piece you love but rarely wear because it doesn’t fit well.

I realize through this exercise that I like to keep things simple with a couple trends here and there because in all honesty, I can get lazy sometimes when it comes to deciding what to wear. Perhaps I just need to play dress up more often so that I can gain that sense of appreciation and gratitude again

The problem behind "being bored" is really a fear of being perceived as something we are not. As in: I have a fun personality and if I wear "boring clothes" I am afraid people will see me as reserved and introverted... It basically is our own fear that turns against us! So for me, it's just a matter of lack of confidence.

Example, I don't need 10 scrunchies or 10 claw clips; 2 of each is plenty. One z palette of depotted shadows with a few pops is sufficient.

I had to return dresses, dressier shoes, blazers, shirts, and nice handbags that I habitually would get. There’s just no reason to get these no matter how much discount or how much I like them. In my 20's I had terrible acne and then started having hair loss, my Doctor started me on the contraceptive pill Dianette (I think it's called Diana where you are?). It has extra estrogen and it sorted out both my acne and hair loss within 6 months. It does carry a higher risk of stroke for some but if you have a good doctor they will go through a checklist before considering it. It might not be right for you but it's just an idea as I so understand how it feels to have no control over your skin and hair. Hugs and best wishes Christina, your beautiful anyway, remember that x

what I see clearly in all these type of videos on not overshopping, or spending too much money is that the wardrobe is actually very on trend: blazers, mom/more lose jeans, Converse, stack necklaces, round earings, oversized long coats. So my question is when these garments are no longer trendy are you going to still wear them or have to buy new ones? What I am saying is that I don't actually see personal style, I see trends that in order to follow your clothes have to be new.

How not to get bored with your wardrobe: stop using clothes to "express yourself" and see clothes as tools to allow you to go out into the world dressed appropriately and, if you like, elegantly. Take your focus off your wardrobe and focus outward instead. I may not be expressing this well, but the main point is not using clothes as art, but as useful tools to take you where you want to go.
