Loved Christine’s songs and talent! I first heard this song from one of my oldest brother’s mixed tape collection back in the mid 1970’s !Yes Oh Daddy was Christine’s song. Songbird and this one are more her signature style!Hari, Christine started unofficially with the band in 1968 as a session musician while she was still with another band and then after marrying John she officially joined in 1970.

So recognizable from the first notes. Beautiful song released in 1975, written by Christine, inspired by her working relationship with Lindsay Buckingham. She said he could cold as ice one minute and great the next. It was their first song in 6 years to make it to the Billboard 100. Beautiful writer, singer and musician. Rip Christine. You were a beautiful song bird. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cosmo. Lovely pick. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Her voice ALWAYS takes to that place where my mind and my heart are calm and tranquil........... and you can't ask for any more than that from an artist. A few weeks ago I was thinking it was so great to hear Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere" during TV commercials, as people who might never have heard of Fleetwood Mac and Christine McVie were getting introduced to their great music via this commercial. It's good to know Christine was able to witness "Everywhere" become very popular in 2022 as it is now being played everywhere, even during NFL games.

Going to have to listen to Rumours, because I was thinking there is a similarity of a phrase on this song and a Rumours track, too. Not sure if it's Oh Daddy. Yes McVie's voice was gold, and in my opinion, a great compliment to the raspy (but also great) vocal quality of Nick's. The lineup of Fleetwood Mac that started with this album was an event in time that rarely occurs. Their music was really pretty unique in character, sound and quality. I'm very thankful to have grown up enjoying music from that era and FM's contribution to the music scene is definitely one of the best.

@wayne_twentyfive
@wayne_twentyfive Жыл бұрын
She was only in Stevie's shadow in terms of media attention .. Stevie was such an astoundingly good looking woman that people got fixated on that .. But in musical terms, Christine was not in her shadow at all .. She had a wonderfully smooth and sultry voice, played great keys, and wrote many Fleetwood Mac classics .. She contributed as much talent as anyone in that band.
@robertasirgutz8800
@robertasirgutz8800 Жыл бұрын
@@wayne_twentyfive I completely agree. The media was dazzled by Nick's beauty and stage presence. This is a message to call. This business eats it's young, and too cosmetically oriented, especially for women.
@wayne_twentyfive
@wayne_twentyfive Жыл бұрын
@@robertasirgutz8800 Very true .. As you suggest, particularly for women, being hugely talented is just not enough nowadays to make it really big in music .. If you're not eye candy or don't have some other attention grabbing aspect to your act, you'll generally only have limited success.

Tangential but fun fact: Cyndi Lauper was commissioned in 1977 to record several soundalike covers of songs penned written by other artists - she was one of several session singers hired to re-record several big hits of the day. Lauper said later that she was paid only twelve dollars for her work, to "sound like someone else." The only fruit to come from her sessions was a 7" vinyl single of her version of "You Make Loving Fun," which became the first song ever officially released by Cyndi. Lauper did not own her own copy until a fan gave her one in 2002: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJzSqWueg7SbhtU.

Cosmo , have you heard her last recording. She did an album with Lindsay Buckingham There are 5 songs by her and 5 songs by Lindsay. She still had a beautiful voice. If you haven't heard it it is basically another Fleetwood Mac album even though it wasn't called that. my understanding is John McVee and Mick Fleetwood contributed to the Album. The only one who wasn't on it was Stevie Nicks.

Hi Harri ... I always wondered why people were so focused on Stevie while overlooking Christine and Lindsey. It's like they never even noticed they were on the records but, even when Stevie was the lead singer, you could often hear Lindsey's voice in particular, very prominently situated "in your face" but, Christine's was always there too ... mostly in the back but filling out the sound so beautifully. I always loved Christine more, because all I ever got from her was warmth, sweetness and light, and I am a manly man who LOVES a womanly (i.e. warm, motherly) woman. I'm not into fights, and Stevie was a fighter. I'm into love and want a lover, and Christine was all of that !!! RIP ♥🙏😢

So sad to hear of Christine McVie's passing. What a talented singer songwriter. She had so many great songs with Fleetwood Mac. Their album "Rumours" is one of the best-selling albums in history. Eight of their hit songs were written or co-written by her including "Don't Stop", "Everywhere", "Little Lies", "Over My Head", "Say You Love Me", "You Make Loving Fun", "Songbird", "Hold Me" etc. She also recorded 3 solo albums. She will be greatly missed.

I would like to add that Lindsey Buckingham is always perfect. He plays for the song and not his ego. This song has many layered strings and I read somewhere that this song is partially a comment on Lindsey's tough love in creating these arrangements and bringing Christine's visions alive.
