Merry Christmas Morgan’s. Hope yours is blessed. Loved the music today especially the jazzy version of Go Tell It On The Mountain at the beginning. One of our fav Christmas traditions is to decorate our tree with red envelopes. Our son died in an auto accident in 1994. He was a very generous person and so everything we do in the way of giving we do in his honor above and beyond what we do for the Lord through our church. We then record all those things on 3x5 cards and place them in those red envelopes. Then after we have read the Christmas story from Luke 2 and opened presents we sit by the tree and remember our son and his generosity by reading aloud each of the cards. It is such a wonderful blessing for us and gives us a chance to thank God for giving us 19 years with our son.

My favorite Christmas tradition is the Christmas Eve Service at my church... along with driving around and seeing all of the Christmas Lights all around my small rural town. My favorite Christmas movies are "A Christmas Story" (about a boy getting a Red Ryder BB-gun, it's just like me as a kid getting my Daisey air rifle)...and Prancer. Those two movies really touch my heart. They both bring back so many fond childhood memories. I wish you all a heartfelt very merry Christmas. I love you all a big bunch. I've been with you since you started here on KZbin. Thank you for touching my life. Hugs for you all!

My favorite Christmas event is to go check out the bonfires on top of the Mississippi River levee up river from New Orleans. We go a day or two before the lighting, on Christmas Eve, and again later this morning and visit with the people building them. Some are built like a Tee Pee, some like an over sized alligator, some like a life sized pirate ship, some like a plantation house, etc, etc. A small one would be a Tee Pee 8 to 10 feet across the bottom and 20 to 25 feet tall. Those built like a log cabin or other structures are big enough to live in. We will go to a friend’s house later this afternoon that lives only a block from River Road for a big party. River Road follows along the heel of the Levee, About an hour or so before the lighting of the bonfires, both lanes of River Road are turned into a one way road going up river. The traffic will move at a snails pace way into the morning. As long as the weather is good with light winds the Fire Chiefs from the parishes will give the OK to light the fires, which I think is usually planned for around 6 or 7 PM. Most of them have been soaked with diesel to insure a good lighting of the structures. This tradition goes back to the mid to late 1800s. Some historians say as early as just after the civil war. The bonfires were built to guide Poppa Noel to the homes of the Cajun Children that lived in the sparsely populated area know as the River Parishes. If anyone is interested in watching the lighting I would think one can find it live streaming online. I believe there are some TV networks that will be broadcast the event live over cable, satellite, and online. I’m sure there are You Tube videos of past lightings and probably many live streams here on You Tube of this years events. A VERY VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

Merry Christmas from Sweden where Dec. 24 th. is our big day. Here we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve with a lovely spread of great food followed by opening of presents. We feel blessed because we have been able to celebrate every single Christmas with our daughters since they were born and even though our oldest lived and studied in London for close on 13 years but yet she always came home for Christmas to spend it together with the family. Today they have husbands and beautiful children, our grandchildren ranging from 9 yo (identical twin girls) their brother 12 yo and then the other daughters 13 yo daughter and 16 yo son.

I learned to operate equipment as a kid, and our farm we have always encouraged the younger folk to operate equipment and learn new jobs. That said, when I was a teenager (and younger) I didn't have to learn to operate a tractor on video in front of a KZbin audience. Its always hard to learn new things in front of an audience, backing up trailers for instance is always harder when someone is watching. I would guess this young man, who seems like a fine worker, is probably running the tractor and the saws, but if I were him I would choose to do so off camera. Cheers, and Merry Christmas!

Favorite Christmas movie would be A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart with George S Scott in Scrooge a close second. My favorite memories seem to revolve around the Christmas tree. When I was young we would go to the woods on our farm in Michigan to cut the tree, either a Scotch or White Pine the day after Thanksgiving. It was a chance to hang out in the woods with some of my cousins who would also be there, The trees in the woods are too big now. The trees were planted in rows, probably about the same time your red pines were planted on your property. These days, my wife and I buy a permit from the Santa Fe National Forest here in New Mexico and cut our own tree.

Oak is a great wood. I have some red oak that I bought 1” rough/ green from a sawyer in 1988. I stacked and stickered immediately indoors in the barn. 10 years later I started using it for projects and even though it was at 6% on the moisture meter it was a little unstable for cabinet doors. 20 years later it was still about 6% moisture content but had become extremely stable. I should have kiln dried it at the start but that was not easily done back in the 80”s. There is a difference between kiln dried and air dried. Good score on all that oak.

I wondered if your nice neighbor lady, had a time frame that she would like all that wood off her property for some reason, but guessing maybe not if you're coming and going to get it all. I wondered if it would be easier to park the trailer somewhere around her driveway, load it up with splitting and saw logs, then hook it up to the tractor and take the huge load back to the lumber yard? BUT, not second guessing your process Mike, since I have learned over the years, you are a planner and accomplish a whole lot of whatever you're doing, your way. Merry Christmas y'all!
