I consider myself a frugal person and I have never shopped Black Friday sales. So many better ways to spend my time preparing for Christmas. I usually spend the day after Thanksgiving listening to Christmas carols, decorating the house, and working on Christmas cards. Lovely day, no crowds, no money spent! 😊

My dear father worked for the state Forest Service. He grew Christmas Trees also. Every year. Many in our community would come to our home to buy their tree. And in my area (western North Carolina mountains) there are many Christmas Tree farms. 🎄

I’ve got 10 kids, their spouses, 26 grand kids and a great grand....I’ve been wrapping presents for WEEKS! So I can cross off buying paper and ribbon from my list. We’ve recently moved so we decided to skip a big Thanksgiving dinner, and we plan to spend 3 days cleaning out the garage, and purging the last of our moving boxes that don’t fit in our MUCH SMALLER home. Another mission I can tick off.

My mother and I go black friday shopping every year when the stores open and I love it! We're not big deal shoppers but we always take that time to get the gifts for the gift exchange we do with our extended family as well as gifts for my sister and brother-in-law who live across the country. I'm usually up and working in the evening and night and sleeping during the day so it's nice to be able to shop in the middle of the night and not drag myself out of bed before the shops close lol.

I have been black Friday shopping with my dear dear in-laws since 1980 - but we do not go with the crazy run people etc. We live in Chicago and we start out at 5 am - meet at 6:00 and all the girls go to Starbucks. Then we go through my dear sis in laws historical area as a group of cars and see and hear the stories of the area. Then we head downtown and park at Macy's (used to be Marshall fields) and have an early lunch by the tree and Frango mint pie. We then go back to my dear sis in laws neighbourhoods shopping area and of course another coffee/tea break. We end the day with margaritas and Mexican dinner. All the girls go too - so we are about 13 - depending on how many come. There really aren't any bargains. The only thing i have found cheaper is some bedding. Nothing else.

For black Friday I like to make a list during late summer/early fall for any big ticket items were wanting. Crib, couch, carseat, etc. And then I look at the different styles, pros and cons of different brands, reviews, and prices. I keep an eye on them over the months to see if I'm getting a true deal or not. Last year I bought a double stroller and a carseat for less then what most people spend on the carseat alone.

Love watching for ideas and the difference in culture and traditions. Not that different to England in certain families as we are all borrowing from many cultures. I am getting my tree from IKEA this weekend for the sitting room but we also have a tree in the entrance to the house. So lots of lovely bright lights from Sunday onwards. New curtains are going up and I have fabric to make covers for the couches and cushion covers so busy week and closing down the holiday home as well. Wearing my oldest clothes for the big clean though. XXX many blessings xxx

Black Friday sales have hit Australia too in the last couple years. I find it highly offensive and very dispiriting. I realise it's corporations trying to sell us more stuff, but our world is burning here literally. We don't need all that stuff.

Good morning! I love that little house candle holder. I have been looking around for one here, but I keep seeing big, black metal houses. 🙄 And I mean big! At first, I thought maybe I’d buy one and paint it white, but those things are huge. (Maybe 12” across and 14” high) And I guess they’re “farmhouse style”. I love real Christmas trees! My daughter and I are extremely allergic. We’ve had our artificial tree for almost 20 years now. I started Christmas decorating a few days ago and realized most of the “clutter” in my home is Christmas decoration related. 😳 This will be a hard declutter mission for me-I have been putting it off for years. Have a great day, Diane!

Agreed! I don't leave the house on black Friday, I start on the Christmas decorating by getting my leg lamp into the front window...my neighbors say it's not Christmas until they see the leg lamp lol. Then try to get the tree up Friday or Saturday. I know people who just love going shopping on black Friday but I'll never understand the appeal.

Totally agree about "Black Friday" - I heard a report saying the same thing regarding the "savings"! We went to get a new computer printer and saw a large stack of them near the door, with a very large poster standing by them saying "When it's gone it's gone" - INFERRING that these printers were a limited offer. When asking an assistant how much was off them we were informed that the notice referred to the general Black Friday offers throughout the shop NOT really to those printers as they weren't reduced.........talk about pushing the legal boundary to the limit!!! One of our treats this year was to go to the Royal Albert Hall to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra play live with Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back been shown on a large screen. The orchestra also come regularly to our local Baths Hall and they have a Film Music Gala night - always finishing with Star Wars but have a variety of film scores, this year they performed Into Darkness from Star Trek, Schindler's List, The Great Escape, Pirates of the Caribbean etc, etc - this has been one of our clutter free Christmas presents!
