If you leave a vehicle behind on the trail leave a note explaining how you expect to get out and a cell phone number or 2 so rescue knows if you tried walking out and they need to search for you or if another vehicle picked you up. Just leaving the vehicle does not let anyone know how to contact you to get it out of the trail. Also always turn your wheels straight so if your vehicle needs to be moved it is easier. Did you guys spend the night?

I looked your area up and the most snow that falls on a yearly basis is 82.1" in Collins Bay. If that's split over your 7 months, you get less than 12" a month. Or, 208.5 centimeters. That's not much for Canada. I live in the Ohio River Valley/Mid Atlantic region and we average 55" a year and that's 3-4 months

TFL does not have a "Forever" vehicle. They get at best what they call "long term" which usually is 2 years tops. Such as the latest LRD they use for .. well they say camera vehicle. But in reality, they have such a fleet of vehicles, the LRD is not often the one that is on the roads or in the dirt with them as a support vehicle. And IDK where you get your impression about Tommy's love of the Gladiator. He has been honest that it does not accommodate him for a comfortable ride. It is capable for things like this trip, but it is not a daily driver choice of his. ;)

I think Tommy forgot the two best parts of wheeling in the snow, no damned bugs and no crowded trails. A simple push broom would have cleared the snow off the roof, though I am surprised the trees didn't take care of that. I do think the Ford needs a good set of tire chains, not so you can go down harder winter trails but for the times you might be out on a trail and get unexpected snow. Or when you are running a dry trail and come up on snow that has yet to melt in the spring and early summer. Also I would be happy to take any of the other guy's places and go wheeling in the snow with you Andre.

@@philtripe yuh but if its being stacked with a camper to 9k # anyways, that 600 pounds isn't going to make that much of a difference. My point is if you're gonna get the gasser, might as well go for a 150 class truck, as you're not going to be towing much anyways. The gasser 250s frame can handle heavy weights, but the engines suffer horrible mpgs. Not to mention the deprecation.

So true a hand winch on amazon is about 50 bucks, they aren't sexy as a powered unit, and take a little more time. I recall my dad had one when I was young and he'd go into some gnarly places after wood with his rwd F150. He didn't get stuck that often surprisingly, when he did, that hand winch got him out every time. I have a 4x4, admittedly I don't go "off-roading" like my dad did however I have a hand winch and a recovery kit as I do take it to the beach and head to the slopes during snow storms

Aside from the genuinely serious mold and mildew health hazards from long term use of a popup and lack of any worthwhile insulation to keep you warm in 23 degree weather, the weight of the roof and height of the operator are just two more reasons not to get a popup. What use was that huge truck with a portable shelter if it's not operable by a 6'2" BEAST of a man? Hard sided all the way. Or get a hard sided a frame popup like the aliner scout; 1200 lbs and easily outfited for serious overlanding.

Hopefully the owner of that JK, and everybody watching the show will learn the lesson. If you're going to go off-roading your number one accessory is a winch. Not tires, not a lift, not lockers. And you can't say they're too expensive either because you can buy the one from Harbor Freight and it's made in the same factory that makes the Smittybilt winches, and they're a lot better quality than their price would suggest, especially when they're on sale. There's absolutely zero reason for taking a vehicle out on a trail without having a winch.

Thisnisnt to knock on Anyone in TFLT. I like all of you guys. Especially Andre and Tommys pops. Good hearted people. Genuinly. The way he treats the puppy id the way he treats people.. with respect and kindness. Just everyone else in TFL. Your going to break down over and over. TOYOTA offered the trd pro tundra made for off road stock.. from skid plates to lift to locking diffs, and all paired to reliable quality built material.. When pay 65k for a truck and then drop another 20k on off road tools just to make it off road worth. Its not longer fair to claim that its a Ford for off road. Its now a DIY that could have been done with Any pick up. Then you got Tommy and his 70k jeep. That if looked at wrong will break down. The amount of money you guys waste is shocking. A beautiful 4runner with trd pro package was all he needed. And it would have been 20k less. And would have gotten him quality Japanese engineering.
@JohnSmith-zi9or
@JohnSmith-zi9or 4 жыл бұрын
We get it, you're a Toyota fan. However, you can't even compare the Tundra TRD Pro to what they've done to the F-250. The TRD has an ELECTRONIC Auto-Limited Slip Differential. Chevy Trailboss much? And they didn't drop money into the Ford to make it "off-road worth." They made it MORE CAPABLE. Those 37" tires, the lift and suspension is in a different league than the Tundra. They bought the Ford to be apart of their across American no pavement needed series. The Ford has done remarkably well for its size. The series was not about how little you could spend on a truck and have it off-road worthy. The Tundra TRD Pro is a good base off-road truck just like many others.

You know, for the size and over 9000lbs of trail hugging girth of the F250 (and what I imagine is a pretty high COG), I'm quite impressed with how it's getting on so far in this series.

Great video and content! Love the video shots. Yall should do an outdoor film fest video focused on your personalities. Also I dont go offroad but it seems like every offroader should have winch and tracks. That Jeep could then have gotten unstuck without any help.

The music is great! The scenery is great. The weather is perfect to prove that F250 and its camper do not belong out on those trails. lol You did a water crossing, so that surely made some of your viewers happy. Thumbs up all the way around. More like this. Hopefully you will get to rescue someone next time out.

I was actually surprised too. I have been looking for a camper for my Ram 1500 to go skiing fishing and winter camping in. Four Wheel Campers is definitely is off the list for me. The only choice for me is Scout Campers.

@@overtheclouds9 uh why? Because they didnt want to brush the snow off the top before actually popping it up? Four Wheel rates the roof to take an even load of 1000lbs, so it's not like anything is being damaged.

So much for that mega lift........ that fact that little rubbing happened and you had to pull a piece of metal like that is unacceptable for how much that worked cost........ you also need to understand the limitations of that behemoth........ a Tacoma would have shined in this environment........

I wish Jeep would built a pickup based off the 2 door Wrangler and give us a 6-1/2 to 7 foot bed, then I'd be interested. Make it more of a Comanche type truck. I have no use for a 4 door pickup anymore and more use for a usable pickup bed of a standard length and width. Maybe throw the selec-trac transfer case in it as an option from the Wrangler Sahara....maybe it would attract more buyers. Yep, a full size HD pickup is way too big for trail use LOL, basecamp yes, but not to try and drive down narrow Jeep & ATV trails LOL.

Tommy good heartedly makes fun of the F-250 Tremor as too heavy for the Colorado trail, it’s carrying a Camper; didn’t see one loaded on the back of his Gladiator?! Oh, and the only “stuck” vehicle in the whole video is someone’s 2-door (short wheelbase) Wrangler Jeep. Keep rollin’

I wonder if my 2 wheel drive Isuzu NPR house truck could have followed you guys if I chained up the rear tires. It's 19 foot bumper to bumper, close to 50/50 weight distribution and a 109 inch wheelbase.

The only time I have off-roaded in the snow was back when I was young and went with what looked cool. I had a 91 Toyota pickup on a 9in lift with 38’s. Mud tires of course. Still IFS. On the pavement I couldn’t go 2 feet in 2wd before the truck would spin out. Put it in 4 low and it did ok. Made it to the trail (about half mile down the road) and I was rolling over big rocks, down trees, and flexing on 2-3 foot tall stumps. Not the most impressive, but it was so easy even in the snow. Compared to not going 2 feet in 2wd it was a lot of fun.

A 5 ton hand winch on amazon is $56 dollars, they require a little elbow grease but will do the job. Being stranded in the Rockies is scary I hope the owner got out okay. FYI a reasonably thick rope (1/2") & an extra pair of hands will do a the job of clearing fresh snow off a that roof.

I think Grumpy dwarf (a.k.a. Tommy) would be astounded at what a heavy truck can do off road. All that weight means an excess of traction when it's required. Size be damned, that 250 will do some wild stuff.

Funny thing is that the gladiator, lifted on 35s actually looks pretty big on the road here in Australia. We mostly drive 4wd utes like rangers, hiluxes, navaras, tritons and our "big" 4wd's are patrols and landcruisers. You'd be very limited where you could go in that F250 in terms of off road trails in Australia

I cannot say enough about your video shots. The shots of the tires and the suspension dropping into the stream and snow. The shots of the trees and surrounding areas. Mingled with the overall theme of this episode and your attention to detail. I watched the whole 21 minutes and was quite entertained with the armageddon snacks at the end. I also learned that Andre is 6'-2" and that the Ford 250 is 8'-1" tall. Thanks for putting this up. Fast Lane Truck videos ROCK!

Smaller 4x4s will always be better trail riders. I like the F250 but seems to big and kinda top heavy with that camper top. I think this is ultimately why mid size trucks made a come back. They just seem practical for scenarios like this. Great video!

who'd have thought the russian would be excited about offroading ... in the snow. also a great reminder that people saying "oh yeah man 37's will fit" don't really drive their trucks in truck conditions. :-) if it can't articulate, it doesn't fit.

I'm a Jeep guy and really wanted a gladiator because I need a truck but the bed was just to small. looked at the f250 tremor and the 2500 power wagon. For me the power wagon won at the end of the day! Loving the PW so far, it's a Rubicon on steroids lol.
