I'm born in a Hindu family in India and we don't really celebrate Christmas here but Diwali is the biggest festival here. My favourite tradition on Diwali is making Rangoli... it's an art made of dry colors on the floor and then lighting up the whole house with beautiful lamps (called diyas in Hindi) and candles
@nickgilter
@nickgilter Жыл бұрын
I can completely relate to that as an Indian and a Hindu. Every year, as Diwali approaches, my sister and i make rangoli in our corridor and our neighbors/ residents of the building come and appriciate our effort a lot and we also light up the entire house with divas and scented candles ❤ It is truly one of the most magical times of the year❤

My favourite Christmas tradition: I grew up in a large family with 6 children, and every year before Christmas, we'd pick a day where all of us together would cut paper stars/snowflakes of all shapes, sizes and colours. These would then be stuck on all the kitchen and living room windows. My mum taught all of us how to make them from a very young age and it's been so fun to see the designs becoming more beautiful and intricate every year. Once the stars are on the windows, it's like the christmas festivities can officially begin. Last year I spent a few months in England, and it was the first and only christmas I've ever been away from my family. I missed them so much. When I told my flatmates about this tradition that I love, a few of them wanted to learn how to do it. We then spent our day cutting stars together and sticking them on the windows, and it was like I had a little piece of home with me. It's a nice memory to have.

I am Polish, and the christmas tradition that I find the most special is leaving an empty seat with a set of dishes and cutlery at the Christmas Eve table. On that winter night families open their homes and hearts for an unexpected guest, travellers and the most lonely, so they can join the celebrations and feel the warmth of christmas spirit. The empty seat reminds us also of our loved ones who are no longer with us, but whose presence and love lives on in our hearts and, that magical night, seems almost tangible.

One tradition that my family and I have been always doing is that every January 1st, in the morning, we have churros and chocolate and watch the New Year's Viena concert. one of my favourite Christmas traditions is that we have an advent calendar for the whole family but instead of chocolate, people pick out a little piece of paper that has a task for them to do on it. Sometimes they’re as silly as singing a Christmas song for everyone, but sometimes you can pick out ones that tell you to phone someone in the family who you might not have spoken to for a while, or making sure you have a nice conversation with anyone you meet that day who is working (e.g. the cashier). Just a really nice way to keep the Christmas spirit up and feel close to people in the lead up to Christmas 😊 love you videos Ruby!

one tradition that takes place every year WITHOUT fail is that my mum organises carol singing in our village. it happens every year regardless of the weather- and its always a great turn out. We stand around in the dark with mulled wine and mince pies, it always feels so festive and its such a great way for our village to come together. This is actually a custom we do every year in Greece: on Christmas eve morning and on new year's eve afternoon children go from door to door singing carols, and the houses' owners open the doors and give them some money and chocolates. These song are in fact announcing to the homeowner that on that noght Jesus will be born and the new year will begin respectively. We uses to go to so many doors, i would easily gather 150€ just from that😂😂

My favourite Christmas tradition is actually a Christmas Eve tradition! I’ve been working at the same pub for the last seven Christmases, and every Christmas Eve I get a picture with everyone who is working that shift from the same place. I always post the picture (and the previous ones) on Facebook and tag as many of the people in them as I can. My favorite Christmas tradition happens on Christmas Eve (In Germany that's when we open presents and celebrate). My favorite ritual is probably making latte with espresso that made with my moka pot, lighting a candle in my late grandma's candle holder and creating myself a magical atmosphere to write a little diary and then read a book. Sometimes I do a time lapse and read until my candle runs out, and I found really cool to videotape it. I prefer to do this ritual in my room on the garden floor, it is very pleasant to watch the chickens, cats and birds in the garden. This fall, I also planted tulips, hyacinths and daffodils bulbs. Planting bulbs was also one of the most important rituals of my last 1-2 months. And before I forget, I wanted to say that if you have uploaded a new video before this coffee-candle-book ritual I am describing, I will definitely watch you first, Ruby. You motivate me so much and also I feel like I'm doing this routine with a friend. much love x.

One of my favourite Christmas traditions: My family will always make and decorate gingerbread for people (mainly friends or teachers) around this time of year to say thank you and to show our appreciation. I love this tradition because it marks the start of the Christmas season and is a way that I can show my gratitude for important people in my life. I've also come to appreciate this tradition more as I've grown older as it allows me to look back and observe how things have changed over time. For example, when we were younger, my brother and I used to only decorate the gingerbread, while now we make it from start to finish.

We then do fun activities such as karaoke or games and when it’s close to midnight we count down. Right after that the presents would “appear” under the tree and we would all get to open them up and share our happiness. Nowadays the presents lay under the tree for a few days before the grand evening. Always make me feel warm inside when I think of this time of the year ☺️

A Christmas tradition that we have been doing every year so far is watching Christmas shows till midnight while drinking a hot drink. My country is not very into Christmas like other countries, but is my family's favorite holiday of the year and we would always take time off to spend time with each other! 😄🎄

My fav Christmas tradition: We don’t really celebrate Christmas in my family but my parents always take me and my lil sis out for a big holiday dinner. They will let us choose the restaurant and after eating out for dinner, they will either take us to our fav bookstore and buy us books or go home and watch a Christmas movie together whilst eating caramel popcorn 🍿. These are the times that I truly treasure and love. Merry Christmas to everyone who watches this video 🎄

I'm celebrating Christmas being on night vigil in church for more than 10 years now, but most people who don't attend Christmas service light a candle in the window, so that it's visible from outside. And this tradition is my one of favourites. It gives me a feeling of unity and if it's snowing, feeling of coziness. I live candles and your candles are always so cozy to look at❤️

One of my favourite Christmas traditions is driving around my local town with my mum and sister and looking at all of the Christmas lights while listening to Frank Sinatra's Christmas songs. My favourite Christmas tradition that my family does every year is that we each get an ornament that was symbolic of an event or accomplishment that year. For example, I got a small blue slug but ornament that looked just like my car the year I got my license. I also think I have that same tea kettle with the teacups ornament that I got one year, it looks just like yours on your tree! I enjoy watching your videos because I am a college student from the US who is also introverted. Starting my first semester this year has been challenging living away from home, but many of the videos you posted brought me encouragement that there is someone else who feels the same way. Love your videos :)

My favourite Christmas tradition is one from my culture - Czech. We celebrate Christmas on the 24 December, all sitting around the table together, no one is allowed to leave the table once sat down, as sitting together binds us with positive energy and blesses us to always be together no matter what. We also always prepare one extra plate, just in case anyone who is in need of an extra meal comes knocking on out door. Its a really lovely tradition :) my favourite ritual is definitely working with the cycles of the moon and during Full Moon I burn all of my fears written on a piece of paper to prepare myself for the New Moon and new beginnings :)

My favorite ritual is right before a dance performance. I dance everywhere in the world with the company I work for and it is important for me to have a ritual before a show to ground me wherever I go. I love doing my hair and make up to a certain playlist that gets me pumped up for the show. I also have a particular way of setting up my dressing room table, it is always the same no matter what theater I perform in. With that, I bring special cards and photos, memorabilia to add to my table to bring me luck. Right before the show I always make a point to go up to the stage and press my hands against the floor grounding my body and connecting my mind, body, and spirit. I thank the grounds on which I will dance and feel grateful for the life I live through this art form.

A ritual I'm really loving is the process of making my morning bowl of porridge 😅 I find it very calming and satisfying, especially when I make the ritual more lengthy with extra ingredients like shredded coconut and cacao and toppings like nut butter and fruit - I think just the slow cooking of oats on a cold wintery morning is a small moment of calm I really appreciate! Thank you so much for your videos Ruby, truly my favourite escapist youtuber that makes me feel a whole lot calmer and cosier!💛💛

My favourite cherished Christmas tradition comes from a time when my grandparents were still alive. Every Christmas Day after lunch, everyone would perform something for the rest of the family in the front room. Some people chose poems, some chose to sing a song and others chose to act out a scene. I always chose to do a gymnastics routine!🙈 We used to start thinking and planning in October and it really was the highlight of the day♥️Although I miss their faces now, it is still a Christmas ritual that continues to be lovingly passed down through my family. Happy Christmas Ruby to you and your family and thankyou for being awesome x

My fiance and I have a Christmas tradition that we started when we moved in together and bought our own Christmas tree! Each year we book December 1st as holiday from work, and we spend the day decorating the tree and watching Christmas movies together. Also on this day we buy one single Christmas decoration/bauble for the tree, we write the year on it and we hang it on the tree. Because all the decorations are totally different, our tree always looks a little bit ramshackle and messy, but we love it and now each year our Christmas tree is a reminder of all of those lovely days we took time to spend cosy time with each other!

Ik exactly how you feel about makeup! After doing some reading I realised how it's the patriarchy making women argue about trivial things like makeup to distract us from the really important issues like the pay gap and gender-based violence. So in short: rock your lip gloss! 😄

Makeup is anti feminist. It feeds off of womens insecurities and is the prime example of the way sexism and capitalism intersect and feed off of each other. Yes, there are bigger issues, but that doesn’t make makeup any less of an issue. I personally wear makeup occasionally, but I am still aware of the fact that it is sexist.

@@ss-qu4wx I completely agree about makeup being a prime example of sexism and capitalism intersecting. However, at the end of the day, I think the priority rn is to solve the systemic issues of the pay gap, gender-based violence, racial inequality, etc. And I don't think we should police other women over wearing makeup or not; arguing amongst ourselves isn't going to help us make systemic change. But am v happy to listen to other opinions!! I'm a straight white woman so I understand my view of things might be limited lol

My favorite tradition takes place on christmas eve: we go to church in the evening, then drive back home (which is magical when only few cars are on the road and christmas lights are everywhere), then we have a family dinner together and for desert we eat the christmas cookies we baked together in the morning. After dinner we all change into cozy christmas pajamas, make hot chocolate and watch "home alone" together. The next day we have some other family members over and we spend the day together reminiscing the past year(s). It's so nice to solemnly spend time together with your loved ones :)

My favourite tradition/ritual: after a family dinner and opening our presents (in Poland we do it on the 24th of december), I get some warm clothes and meet my closest friends - and then we go to the Midnight Mass. One of my friends is an agnostic but she still goes with us every year, it's really kind and lovely of her to spend some time with us in the church. Then we go to our other friend's house, eat lots of leftovers from the dinner (it's 1am already and we're starving) and watch a movie together. It's been like that for the last 5 years (or even longer than that!) and I really love it. It feels like having a second family :)
