Atheists love to praise Christopher Hitchens-one of the "Four Horsemen" of New Atheism. But they leave out some pretty critical info that should really change how you evaluate his claims.

About Authentic:
Host Shawn Boonstra makes it easy to understand how philosophy and biblical principles can help you live an authentic life in the 21st century.
We talk about real existential questions-stuff that everybody wonders about: the meaning of life, purposeful living, the nature of human existence, the thoughts of great philosophers and how those have impacted our culture and how we live-the nature of love, relationships, emotions, self-awareness . . . But most of all, we explore what it means to live an authentic human existence.
New episodes on Saturdays. Watch on KZbin and a growing list of North American TV networks and stations.

Shawn simply doesn’t get Hitchens sense of irony or humour. His point with the teacher is a sudden awareness of the dangers of credulity, at such a young age, is the point here. It discredited the teachers knowledge and his trust in her teaching, that’s all. He then started to think for himself and not fall for the ‘appeal to authority’ fallacy. His ‘Old trout’ comment is like saying ‘the silly old sod’ when your dad tries to turn the tv over with his glasses case instead of the tv remote....English humour

The abrahamic god chooses not to use his power to simply forgive humankind, but instead implements a solution which requires that he impregnate a teen girl in order to give birth to himself so he can have himself slaughtered to save human beings from the hell that he created. He then decides to communicate his scheme through conflicting accounts penned decades later by anonymous authors over 1,300 years and subjectively handed down by flawed translators who can’t even agree on the interpretation of “virgin”, or whether Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, whether he fathered a child named Sarah or whether god created everything literally in six days… Yes a fine book that is…. By the way picture yourself trying to understand how your virgin wife is pregnant, then three random dudes show up at birth with gifts… LMAO… Good luck with that religion…

There are many reasons to disapprove of religions; one which cannot be denied is that they have had a large role in causing animosity - and worse - between different peoples. And at an even more fundamental level, they lead people to tolerate suffering in the phony belief that there's a heaven where all will be made good.

5m in and this is a complete joke. Hitch spent decades refining his beliefs and you try to find some issue with his childhood? Hitch would absolutely destroy every "point" you've made here and we all know it. Trying to argue with a dead guy is completely low class.

@@michaeljameson6468 he lost them all actually. His opinion does not warrant any cedibility. His misunderstanding of scripture also does not warrant any credibility. His debating tactics were to stir up his own misinterpretations and make it sound like he was right when in reality any logical and rational thinking human being could spot he was wrong and actually didn't even know what he was talking about. "There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death." (Proverbs 14:12) poor Hitchens and his non sensical followers who follow the blind.

@@xDubhe Christopher Hitchens was the most eloquent, intelligent debater of our time. He was absolutely correct in his analysis of religion, all religions. They are all based on myths and legends, devoid of any intellect or scientific basis. Religion has caused more death and destruction in man’s history than anything else. Religion must be swept into the dustbin of history for humankind to evolve and move on into the future. The fact that there are still people today in the 21st century that believe the earth was created in six days just 6000 years ago because some ancient book says so is not only sad it is horrifying.
@xDubhe
@xDubhe 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaeljameson6468 You are proof of Hitchens brainwashing since none of what you or Hitchens said is true. You must not have listened or watched this video to its entirety. He was not eloquent since he only persuaded fools who don't know anything nor how to do their own research or think for themselves. His intelligence was lacking since he couldn't even prove what he believes nor explain how reality exists from nothing. His analysis on religion was erroneous and poorly understood. Meanwhile, atheist's religion of evilusion has failed the science test over and over and over and yet grown adults believe they came from goo. It's sad how irrational, confused and illogical people have become to believe in myths and theories that have failed the science test continuously. The atheistic world view is illogical, non-sensical and unscientific. Prove me wrong. Also, have you not heard of the 'Encyclopedia of Wars'? The list of 1,763 wars throughout history and yet only 123 or those wars have been classified to involve an actual religious cause.. That is accounting for less than 7% of all wars and less than 2% of all people killed in warfare... and you are ranting about religion... wow, your ignorance is showing... Meanwhile, the other 93% of wars have been conducted in the pursuit of 'mans' "profits" (greed), 'mans' pride for power (ego), challenges to political authority (pride), power over territory and other greedy, evil acts such as tribal supremacy, annihilations and assassinations. So you're telling me you have no knowledge of human history and yet you spew nonsense while being uninformed? WWI, WWII (the deadliest war in history), or even the Vietnam war, you have no knowledge of these? History simply does not support your bogus claim that "religion has caused more death and destruction in man's history than anything else." You have been sadly deceived by society which does not surprise me. Did you know 'Peace' is the highest aspiration to the majority of all religions? To be clear, I'm not saying that religion has not been a cause of conflict. Reason being, there are over 4,000 religions (some being evil even) so I see why there is hatred for it but your claim is wrong. You should do some research instead of just listening to fools and parroting them. So, you are greatly confused and wrong, since more death has been caused through an atheistic world view (survival of the fittest mentality, pride, ego, greed) "The fact that there are still people today in the 21st century that believe the earth was created in six days just 6000 years ago because some ancient book says so is not only sad it is horrifying." The fact that there are grown adults who believe reality made itself from nothing and in evilusion myths and fairy tales of goo turning into people is embarrassing. The Bible remains the world's most sold book of all time for it is living and active in people's own lives to this day and has withstood the test of time and scrutiny and science, archeology, geology and history support scripture. Prove me wrong.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Authentic is a wide forum where we like to investigate life and society's big questions and ideas and compare them to biblical perspectives. Disclosure was more of a variety of different approaches, one of them being direct Bible study. We encourage all Authentic viewers to go on to dig into Scripture for the full picture-we offer free studies at biblestudies.com. You may enjoy Jean Boonstra's devotional series, which is great for believers looking for inspiration and insight into how Scripture applies to their everyday life. I actually appreciate this approach because as a child we were taught the Bible and how and what to believe etc but were never encouraged in fact we were discouraged from reading about anything outside our faith and educating ourselves on others beliefs and thereby gaining a better understanding of others which is a good starting point when sharing the gospel. It reinforces why I believe the Bible, I was blessed!

The only mistake Hitchens made was thinking that all of his audience was capable of intellectual honesty and self inquiry. As time advances it becomes more and more plain that many of the "faithful" in America and the larger world are determined to march through their lives to the tune of ancient wizardry, dogma and superstition. Maybe we shouldn't argue with you anymore. Maybe we should just exclude you from modern society. Create a reserve where you can exist in your silly and sorry state.
