He should know by then, after former debates, that he doesn't need to shout to make his point across, because with someone like Hitchins there's no need to. Hitchins will NOT be intimidated nor bullied. I have to admit, that I really hated this guy after two other debates but the way he approaches Hitchins at the end made me realize that it was all in the heat of the debate. I had to change my mind about Schmuley. Toodles from Amsterdam.

This debate was held 16th September 2010, in June of the same year Hitch was taken into emergency care after suffering from a severe pericardial effusion. We lost Hitch 15th December 2011, I'm in awe of this man who despite being ravaged by esophageal cancer, and chemotherapy treatment that clearly left him in a weakened state, to be able to continue to debate with such passion and determination, shows what a great thinker and intellectual he was. He was the author, co author, editor, or co-editor of over 30 books, including five collections of essays on culture, politics and literature. Thank you for helping preserve Hitches memory in presenting these videos.

Agnes, because that is one of those idiotic things that christians love to say and is just absolute nonsense. If your understanding is just superficial soundbites that is the kind of thing you say. Dig deeper, peel off those onion layers to reach a deeper understanding -you have a brain. I'm sorry, but I feel so disappointed when human beings parrot this kind of rubbish, because I know people, including yourself, are capable of so much more. We are biological organisms, but not merely: we are amazing biological organisms capable of so much. All of the processes that occur in our body are chemistry, which do consist of "molecules in motion" but that is how our body functions and allow our brain to work and all of our biological systems to function. Why do people think that somebodies soul is something outside their body?? Your soul is your unique personality, that only you have; an un-partical mix of DNA and personal experiences. But that happens within the brain. And when the body dies, the brain dies too. And, unless you are a writer or an artist with a legacy in any form, you'll be dead and mostly forgotten except by the people whom you mattered to. How did you feel before you were born, for instance? That's how I think about death: it must be pretty like before I was born.
@joe-77193 ай бұрын
The proof of this is in mini stoke victims. After each mini stroke small parts of their brain turn off along with a part of their personality. You see them slowly just going blank. So your personality/soul is 100% in your brain. It's the software (or wetware as it's called) running on the hardware that is your brain. Simple.

Most of the religious that I have seen Christopher Hitchens debate, just as Rabbi Shmuley does here, when pressed, completely deny what their holy text teach. Pinning down their beliefs, is like trying to take a finger and pin a glob of jello, it's impossible. They pick and choose which of their religious text they wish to believe and or practice, and diminish the importance of the rest. Then they have the nerve to criticize and condemn the fundamentalist of their faiths, who unlike them, are not hypocritical in denying what their holy text state and infers. They are not "true" religionist, they are liberal humanist that are too insecure and afraid to shed the traditions of their family and their faith, and in my opinion living more of a lie than those who are.

The moment Shmuley cited Dinnesh, he lost a lot of credit. Dinnesh is NOT known for his intellectual honesty. Point in case; He compares Democrats to Nazis, Atheists to Nazis and claims "Hitler was a Socialist" despite evidence to the contrary. Dinnesh is nothing but ad homs these days.

Those chairs had to be miserable to endure.... I absolutely love listening to Christopher!

It amazes me that in all the religious debates I have seen, not once has anyone raised the subject of how these different ideas came to be. Clearly, to anyone with the most cursory experience of reality, the idea that reliable information can be accumilated through revelation is ridiculous, in comparison to the scrutiny involved in science. These two methods of achieving knowledge are so far removed from each other that it astounds me no-one mentions it.

Calling him brilliant doesn’t even touch his true genius. Closest thing to an ironic deity given his prose. I’m sure his IQ bordered ludicrous. And I say that because a true genius can perfectly intertwine almost pedantic photographic memory, while also maintaining humor at the core of his pathos. The man is the closest you can get to legendary.

Wait, after the beating Hitchens gave him the first time, Schmuley thought it was a good idea to debate him AGAIN?

Would like to see shmuley reincarnated as a Palestinian in Gaza. Would his viewpoint change?

what exactly are the "silly" points you are referring to?. Christopher Hitchens was one of the most intellectual and free thinking men on the planet. Who is this amazing 14 year old that you speak of?, and why haven't we heard of him?

It's painful how ignorant Shmuley is and how wrong his claims are and how easily Hitchens proves him wrong every time.

Shmuley is obnoxiously brash.

Not a fan of the Rabbi but he and David Wolpe wrote very kind obituary’s after Christopher’s death in remembrance. Very respectful.

I will add that listening to this and for anyone who has listened to Christopher and him debate in the past his took a lot of Christopher’s points/facts and jokes and reversed them before Christopher had a chance. Many of his laughs from the Audience were things Christopher said in the past. Suppose imitation is the highest form of flattery.

Thank you so much. Shmuley's hoarse throated ranting gives me a headache.

The deference and respect Shmuley pays Hitch, Hitch's rejection of it notwithstanding, is rather touching.
