You can start out with any normal construction that you'd use for drawing humans but then replace the flesh with the sort of shape language and parts that you would see in machines

If you are interested in his Idea of a manga about hunting giant apex predators fish you should check out "Kuutei Dragons". It's not about hunting giant fish in the see but hunting Dragons in the sky. A different but similar concept
