I'm on day 3 of using my new Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus. Really happy with it so far. The screen is nice...but you can definitely tell that it's not super-high resolution. The experience is smooth. It runs very cool and the battery life is fantastic. A huge change from the overpowered i7 Windows machine that has heated my lap for the past 5 years. This is the first time I've tried to use a Chromebook as a daily-driver and I'm slowly going through my typical use-cases to see where I will have to make compromises. Heavy photo-editing is really the only shortcoming I've found so far...but I knew that going into it. Some of the things I had worried about (printer setup, network shares, VPN) were non-issues. I'd say the Chromebook experience has exceeded my expectations so far.

I just want a centered trackpad and keyboard. I don't need a number pad.

Agreed

Absolutely correct. I hate off centred trackpads, I will avoid buying a laptop that doesn't have one.

Loved that you sat down with samsung to find out why they went with this design, very well done and informative video!!!

Hearing this made me appreciate the fact that it's not a touchscreen. I'm not a big fan of anything larger than 13inch, but I appreciate why they chose 15". If Google re-enters the Chromebook/Androidbook hardware market, I will get it. If not, this will probably be my selection. Side note: I wish they had a next level Chromebook Premium that had even better specs. Think Pixelbook and HP Dragonfly Chromebook level. I think you guys have poked at it in your podcast.

Why so darn big? How about this with a smaller screen size and under 2lbs. What happened to all of the 12-13" Chromebooks? Right now, we have 14" and up or else you are stuck with low-res 11.6" models.
@Roman-nu1om14 күн бұрын
exactly my thoughts! The only smaller Chromebook with a "barely acceptable" screen is the Lenovo Ideapad Flex 3i 12.2"

i snoozeed on the black friday deals for this bad boy.. hopefully there is another sale before Christmas. It doesn't check all the boxed but honestly portability is a big one. Im currently using the duet 5 and the only thing I would want is a better processor, camera, and more ports. If Lenovo made a new duet 3 into 12 inches with said extras it would be perfect.
@3948-023 күн бұрын
Wish this came with a 120hz display! And perfection would be that, 16GB ram, and at least i5 processor
@lanewhite202522 күн бұрын
Look up processor rankings on nanoreview. You might be surprised that this one ranks better than some of the i5 models. But yes, the i5 120u would be better, but the i5 1240p is not ranking better than the i3 100u. Per, that site

I would rather have a large trackpad instead of a touch screen, but the 16:9 screen is so dated, not to mention that there's no fingerprint reader; and instead of a num pad, Samsung should've added front speakers. It's a nice look Chromebook Plus, but I wouldn't get this over the CX54.
@michaelcorcoran876812 күн бұрын
Why would it be either / or? Especially at this price

They just need to do a refresh of the original Samsung Chromebook plus/pro with 2024 processors and 8 GB of ram. I think they were perfect

Next time you talk to a Samsung representative, can you talk more about apps that Samsung makes. We see that Notes is now here, but what about SmartThings, Samsung Find, and more of Galaxy AI. Most of these are apps that Samsung could provide via the PlayStore. They need to integrate more of the Galaxy Books SW into the Chromebook, provided Google allows it. You would think with their deep collaboration it could be possible.

I would really love this Chromebook but damn I do not understand why Samsung does not bring these ever to Canada. The only top end Chromebook as the PixelBook which I actually had to drive 2 hours one way to get.

With those new snapdragons or other high endo mobile chips... That would be awesome! I believe Android apps would run just as smooth too, instead of laggy on Intel chips

Oh Robbie, just the ticket...except for my next Chromebook I have had a fingerprint scanner at the top of the list. I like the touch screens but could live without that. The number pad is incomplete; meaning that you'd still need to move the hand on to the full keyboard to achieve full functionality. This number key pad wouldn't give me the lightning ease & comfort of a full pad so in my mind it's why bother?

I would like to know if this laptop model heats up like the Samsung Galaxy 2020 does? Thank you, I await your response!

I hate small screens. I want the big screen and the 400 nits should be great.this one clicks most of my boxes.glad to see a backlit keyboard! Never used my touch screen or the folding screen on my spin 15 The speakers worry me, though. But this one is right on the top of the list for my next buy.

The DOJ wants to take Google apart, this news is so sad because I have 2 Chromebooks and I love my Chromebook. They want to put AndroidOS. I hope they keep ChromeOS!!!
@michaelcorcoran876812 күн бұрын
I think you're conflating a couple things. Google was ruled a monopoly and they might have to sell out some property including potentially Chrome. But that's a completely different subject then their decision to start using it Android as Chrome OS. That has been in development for years before the US court had made a judgment.

I'm still waiting for a Chromebook with a 4k mini led display with 1,000 nits. My samsung chromebook has the 4k super amoled display with an intel core i5 and samsung released a newer chromebook with a weaker processor and lower resolution display. Samsung released a newer chromebook with the intel core i3 and a 1080p qled display but my chromebook has an older intel core i5 and higher resolution display and a better processor while being an older device.

Samsung's customer survice is useless. Any issues, they blame on Google's software. I will never buy another Samsung phone or Chromebook (I used to be a big fan of Samsung).

I wish they wouldn't have stuck it with UFS storage, total crap choice. A proper SSD would've offered superior performance, and maybe some of us would've replaced it with a bigger one. Would've been a nice option.

Is it ready to connect two external screens? I mean, if it has enough power to support those 2 external screens... Alguien que pueda responder eso?
@phill871222 күн бұрын
lon did a review where he connected it to two external monitors
I typically buy high-end Chromebooks (even before the plus category was formally created) but I will be skipping this. They should never have eliminated the option for a touchscreen. Another thing I wish they allowed is the screen size - I typically use 13.3" as a display (no more than 14inch). When I need a larger display, I will connect to my large external monitor. I am fine if they limit me to 256GB of local storage. If they release a high resolution touch screen and 13.3 inches, then I will get it.
