Historically, royals and other aristocrats were no more than a mafia, providing a kind of protection racket in exchange for fealty and payment in the form of taxes. Over time they mutated into the relatively benign parasites they are today, though their propaganda machines project them as great gifts to us all. They serve no public purpose except to those who, like you, want to believe in that propaganda. The British royals are the worst examples among the residual European royals, though the Spanish are virtually as bad.
