The background scenery for the Giga Gaia fight might be one of my favorites. Really sells the atmosphere for the fight

Congrats on defeating Giga Gaia! Despite what some commenters may imply, I don't think it is an easy fight for those playing first time. And we get another cutscene with Schala - I love her unqiue theme, and it is probably my 2nd favorite after Corridors of Time, which is the music that played in the sky islands of Zeal :)

It’s a fine fight once you figure out the mechanics but yeah I think for a first time through it can be difficult.

Great thing about this part is the amount of loot you get for each and every party member

Yeah all of the xp and tech too, it feels a bit ramped up in difficulty so perhaps I should have done some more side stuff first

Red scouters - damaged by fire, Yellow - damaged by lightning, Blue - damaged by water. That one scouter at 1:10:18 was red hence why it got damaged by napalm. If you hit them with the wrong one - Blue scouter with fire, for example - you heal them. Robo's not a magic user, but Spekkio told you a while ago that his attacks have the property of dark magic. That's why his laser spin healed the scouter, because if was darkness magic. Not all of his attacks are darkness based, some are just regular physical attacks, but if he does something special (lasers, lol) then its a dead giveaway that it is "magic" without being magic lol Sorry for the wall of text, but I figured you might have still been confused on how the enemies worked, even by the end.

Giga Gaia really is a gatekeeper boss. A hint that you need to be THIS strong and smart before you get into the next section of game. Brutal spike in difficulty, but satisfying to finally take down.

the text above the enemies heads tells you. red = damaged by fire, blue = damaged by water, yellow = damaged by lightning. any other magics and they counter attack.

@MrMiles 2:46 Giga Gaia has 9500 HP, 127 defense, and 50 magic defense. Its arms have the same defensive stats except for HP, which is 2000 HP for said arms. At first, this boss fight can be quite intimidating for new players since Giga Gaia uses Shadow and Fire attacks that hit the entire party for high damage if both of his arms are intact. But wearing resistance gear against such powerful magic attacks like Ruby Vests can help you tank its fire attacks easier. You could also use Barrier Spheres to lower the magic damage you take by 1/3. The Giga Gaia is also in possession of a *Speed Capsule,* so you can steal one if you had the ability to. The quickest way to beating this fight is by having Crono and Ayla use Falcon Strike to do away with the arms and then just spam Falcon Strike against the head/main body. Lucca's Napalm does decent damage as well, but Protect (reduces physical damage by 1/3) is an ultimately useless skill at this point in the game (at least against magic enemies) when you can just attack the enemy as soon as possible. 41:48 This area would've had a cutscene to introduce you Dalton had you not defeated his Golem, but because you chose to fight the Golem first, these two goons just ask you why you're here. 45:34 Dalton here is mostly a joke. All he does is fight with Iron Sphere (halves a party member's HP), but he does a finishing attack that hits the whole party for around 150 damage. 49:25 Hmm... It looks like you might wanna put your Mid-Potions at the *top* of your items to reach them quicker in battle. And now, we have the Ocean Palace. Accompanied by good music, this dungeon has some decently strong magical enemies to give you an idea that things are now getting intense in this part of the story. 51:04 This wizard-like enemy here is called a Zealot Mage (also just called a Mage in the SNES/PS1 versions). They can use a skill called "Lock," which basically disables a party member's ability to use techs. This is why you see a "?" over a party member's head. If you can steal from them, you can obtain Barrier Spheres. The enemies you seem to struggle against are called Scouters. There are three colored variants, as you can see: red, blue, and yellow. They have 300 HP, 220 defense, and 50 magic defense. Scouters will absorb and then counter magic attacks that *don't* match their color. Think of this like Magus' Barrier Change in a way. This means they will take *more* damage based on the correct magic element you hit them with, so Red Scouters get hit by fire, Blue Scouters by water, and Yellow Scouters by light (the Yellow Scouters are literally just called "Scouters" for some reason). Also, for some reason, Red Scouters don't absorb shadow damage. However, you can still just use decently strong physical techs to do away with them since they don't have too much HP. 1:39:14 And there it is, Charm! With this ability, you can now steal from enemies, including *bosses!* Some bosses in this game hold at least one piece of equipment in this game that you could find useful.

@@MrMilesTV For me, I use Ayla's Charm skill to steal from various bosses that may hold gear or capsules. There are also some enemies that I may Charm for some piece of equipment or extra item.

Needless to say, the story really escalates here. Between the Queen being a total psycho, Schalla's struggle, and the build up with Masa and Mune "guiding you" during the enemy guantlet, there's so much to take in

Rough day at the office. 😞 I remember you saying in an earlier video that messages at the top part of the screen were harder for you to see due to your setup. Was that the issue here? I'm sure on re-watch you could see the ways that palace could have gone easier. On the whole, though, you made it through one of the roughest areas of the game. Giga Gaia is a hellacious boss, especially if you're not ready for their "shock and awe- hit your whole party for 300+ damage right out of the gate" moves and the Underground Palace can be tough if you're a little "under-teched"; which unfortunately you are at the moment. Really looking forward to the next chapter. To steal from Samuel L. Jackson in "Jurrasic Park": "hold onto your butts".

At some point you'd think he'd realize how go use dual techs. Single attack, dual attack with the other 2, dual attack, heal party. Repeat

It's unfortunate that you had such frustrations this episode, as I feel the game is otherwise fairly balanced. For reference, most people get Ayla's charm ability near the point where the prophet seals your gate, so you may be a bit underleveled and under-teched, which is giving you a challenge
