Ayla is by far my fav character. The first time you see her she literally throws you up against a wall and is in your business. She's the best!

On the topic of the Hunting Range for why you didn't encounter the Nu, it's that the Nu *does* appear, but only on the right or left side of the room. So, I guess you have to pray RNGesus that the Nu is on the far right or far left side of the Hunting Range, depending on where your position is, because it can also be up or down on the left or right side. In my case, I usually hang around this vine at 29:56 and hope that the Nu is on the right side. If not, I usually just leave and try again. In addition to that guaranteed 30 TP a Nu grants from battle, defeating a Nu in 65000000 BC rewards you 3 Fangs, 3 Feathers, 3 Horns, and 3 Petals. Those yellow Hadrosaurs you see constantly in 65000000 BC are called Crested Sprinters (also called Runner in the SNES/PS1 versions). Those gorilla-pterodactyls are just called Bao Bao (also called Winged Ape in the SNES/PS1 version), and they can occasionally counterattack when accompanied by other enemies. And now we have a new party member in Ayla. She has solid speed and attack and can have some decent tech moves all around. Her ability, Kiss, is a healing move that, unlike others, heals *status effects,* which is a nice way to make it unique from other healing skills, though it's only single-target. Ayla can also learn another great ability called Charm, in which she can steal specific items and even armor from enemies and bosses alike. This is why I would often have her in the party, but the grind to get there in an earlier part of the story might not be for you, so you can just move right along then. 26:13 This female NPC here is what gives you the hint to defeat Aecytosaurs (also called Gigasaurs in the SNES/PS1 versions) and Nizbel, as Crono's early lightning abilities lower their defenses. The Ruby Vest is a pretty gear to grind for... at least, for a certain amount of time, as you only saw the Yellow Eaglets changed to Red Eaglets to shoot fire as well as the Aecytosaurs. It's still pretty decent to wear for a while on everyone else. 27:25 The old man here will have some more gear to craft for you after a... certain point in the story, but there will always be stronger gear out there, right? Also, it seems you still haven't removed the Rage Band off of Crono yet, but I guess I can't be one to judge. For me, I don't really rely on counters very often (considering it's only 50% of the time when it activates), but I guess something to note is that enemies seemingly don't counter back against a counterattack. Nizbel has 4200 HP, 252 defense, and 100 magic defense, but his defense drops before lightning. You just need to get ready for his Electric Discharge attack, as it is also an indicator that he regained back his defenses by shaking off the lightning back at you. And like you said before, remember to pay attention to the battle messages the game offers you. It could prove useful.

Between the Nizel fight and the "going in a circle" comment...this is one of those episodes where "we've all been there". Every gamer has more than their share of facepalm "I can't believe I didn't think of that/missed that" moments. One of the drawbacks of streaming is that you happen to have them broadcast to an audience. In case you didn't figure it out, "what is that sound?"- that's the sound of those purple creatures with the long needle snouts drilling holes in the floor of the caverns. Starting from the top of the dungeon (the room where there are four of those purple drillers and a pre-made hole to drop in) there are actually FOUR different paths you can take to work your way down; each with their own set of treasures and monsters. IMO, you happened to find the best one on your second way down: the one with the free Ruby Vest.

Lol. Oh no, Miles. Just watched the Nizbel fight. LMAO. You're going to hate this, but there's an NPC in one of the huts that you visited that told you lightning weakens Dinosaurs. Lol. Also, don't fret about the creature in the trading grounds. Without spoiling too much: there are four different areas in that map where it pops up in the rain. Which of the four places it shows up in is random each time the rain starts. It then hides as soon as it stops raining.

Another user already mentioned this in the last video, but I really suggest going back to Danadoro mountain (when you can) and drop down the waterfall so you can get the accessory that cuts all MP cost by 50 percent. It's really good for Crono, since you mentioned him running out of MP a lot. It's the only item, out of the stuff you missed, which I really think should be backtracked for

Since you asked about backlog games, here are a few for me: Dragon Quest 11 (heard many good things, art is also by Akira Toriyama like this), Zelda TOTK (I'm playing it, but I'm barely 1/3 of the way through), and also some PSP games i've been meaning to check out like Mega Man powered up, and Castlevania Dracula X. cheonicles

It's always interesting to me how, depending on the games we grew up with or are accustomed to, some tropes or aspects from one era become abstruse. For example, despite being way younger, I grew emulating these older Jrpgs, so with time I came to know when a sprite is part of a background or an interactable layer, like those vines you missed in the hunting grounds. This isn't a dig at you Miles 😅 so I'm sorry if I worded it rudely. I'm the same but for other things. For me it's the opposite, I have a hard time adjusting to 3D surroundings, cuz we were too poor to own Xbox or Playstation 3, so I get lost in 3D spaces more than I do with 2D rpgs like Final Fantasy 6

It''s funny you say that about female RPG characters usually being healers. You're not wrong, but CT does subvert that, as Lucca is a powerful "black mage" if anything, and Ayla is your physical powerhouse. I guess Marle fits into the healer role somewhat, but one of my favorite spells of hers ( I wont spoil) is actually a useful status boosting spell, and her offensive dual techs with other characters are generally quite powerful.

Ayla and Frog are the best party members in this game their dual tech slurp kiss is the best healing tech in the game and as other people have said Ayla can steal with her charm ability definitely something worth grinding for once you get her back in the party.

I think "Cleave" is a translation quirk. The original Ted Woolsey translation (of Final Fantasy 6 fame) had a different name for it. I cant say which is more accurate either way though...
@d.j.8059
@d.j.8059 4 ай бұрын
I'm actually a little puzzled over the confusion about "Cleave" and what means in video game terms. One of the definitions of "cleave" is "to split in two", which is exactly what Crono does to an enemy with this tech. The original SNES name for this tech was "Spincut"...which is definitely NOT what he is doing here. I remember playing the original and thinking that it was going to be a more devastating Cyclone technique (maybe going full-screen and hitting all enemies?) and was hella-confused the first couple of times I used it.

Most games I’ve played cleave has a 2nd hit or multi target hit. So that’s why I thought it was oddly named.

Been meaning to ask. Have you ever played the Grandia games? They are on par with any JRPG from the SNES era like Chrono Trigger and have a very unique combat system. I know you have a lot of games already but I thought you would be interested in the Grandia 1&2 HD Remasters on Steam or Switch.

Grandia... I can't think of a game. I personally have a love-hate relationship with it's good would recommend playing no doubt but ugh it's the last old jrpg I pulled from my mother's old stash of PS1 games and I was kinda excited since I grew up on PS1 jrpgs like legend of dragoon, Breath of Fire 3 and Wild Arms but Grandia just annoys me to no end because of the level up system with the skills and the minor detail of the main having one letter off from my name and just some of the voice acting in Grandia is... but hey, those are my opinions, and I can recognize it as a good game. I'm also sorry for the rant. I scrolled through the comments and had to respond.

@@thecowardlytimelord5322 It's fine. I admit the voice acting in the first game is cringe but the story and gameplay are solid. The second game on the PS2 is where they really popped off.

@mightymanatee5342 Yeah, the second game is pretty good. I have my own issues like how hidden or easy it is to miss things, but yeah, Grandia 2 is solid.

So I think I've said this before in another video, but I'm not too familiar with the PC version, which is why the cutscene playing caught me off guard. Not because I didn't know about them (must have watched them hundreds of times on KZbin) but because there was supposed to be another one for when you meet Robo, and since it didnt play, I just assumed it was a setting that was toggled off in your game. Now I'm wondering why it got skipped 🤔
@Loner098
@Loner098 4 ай бұрын
The thing is, there *are* two anime cutscenes that are indeed missing. Why? Who knows? Square is probably just lazy or something.
@applepizza695
@applepizza695 4 ай бұрын
@@Loner098Yeah I've heard this Steam port started out reaaaally bad in the beginning, and gradually became, well,... acceptable enough. Still, the rough parts are showing here and there, and they really made the sprites look chunky and kinda off. SNES and DS (if you want the non-Woolsey translation) are still the way to go. 😊
@Loner098
@Loner098 4 ай бұрын
@applepizza695 There were some things in the new translation that I liked and other things that didn't sit right with many others. The Steam version is at least much the fastest version of Chrono Trigger (the PS1 was slow as hell), especially thanks to the auto battle command, and also allows you to switch between the original graphics and the ugly mobile graphics whenever you want. After all, why else do you think people speedrun the Steam version? And yes, I did hear the game was apparently unplayable at launch, but at least Square actually listened to the criticism (unlike The Pokemon Company) and did fixes on it.
@applepizza695
@applepizza695 4 ай бұрын
@@Loner098I actually wasn't aware that this was the most speedran version of the game. Makes sense I guess. I still think the pixels were done a bit dirty regardless of the mode you choose, mobile or not. Luckily, you do have the benefit of steam workshop mods, so there's that.
