Man, I'm so far behind... Anyway, based on the thumbnails of your latest uploads, I don't have to worry about spoiling the fact that Chrono is revive-able, or (in other words) that his revival is optional! This is was groundbreaking for the time it came out, and continued to be groundbreaking, even when I played it on emulators. It's crazy that you've finally passed this point of the game, and I hope you've found it just as enchanting and engaging as the rest of us in the comments. EDIT: ALSO YES, you spared Magus! I loved your reaction when you realized he was recruitable 😅

Alright we got a LOT to unpack here, so strap in: 3:20 As you can see here, the Ruby Knife that Melchior gave you is revealed to have been a prototype of the Masamune. 3:50 This here is probably the strongest version of Lavos. It pretty much has *double* the stats of base Lavos, so you can imagine just how strong it is. And yes, it is still possible to win this fight, despite the beast being angry at you for waking it up so early. 8:02 If I remember correctly, Chrono Trigger was the first RPG to have the balls to kill off the main character in the story... but... why did I feel nothing? There was some build-up to Crono being killed off, but the problem here is that Crono just didn't have much of a character going for him. The only notable thing about Crono was that he is Lucca's childhood friend and that he's a swordsman for whatever reason. 10:33 Remember when Belthasar mentioned in 2300 AD that a great tragedy that befell his land? Yeah. This was that tragedy he mentioned. 16:55 If you ever want this capsule, you basically have to walk against this Nu or wait a very specific amount of time to walk out of the way. 21:07 This line right here is one of the few things that the new translation (DS/Mobile/Steam translation by Tom Slattery) consistently gets right over the old translation (SNES/PS1 translation by Ted Woolsey). In the old translation, if I recall correctly, he says, "How about this," and the party just turned around for whatever reason. But here, the new translation gives more context to let this scene feel more reasonable (though I think it would be more believable if Ayla fell for this trick). And in such, it seems that Dalton invented the oldest trick in the book, lol. However, now that I think about it, throwing Dalton's wackiness in right after someone just died feels kind of... felt like an awkward mood killer. 24:31 The Blackbird section of this game can be pretty annoying because you're not allowed to switch your party around since Dalton and his men captured you here. In such, a special trick you can do is just have Ayla in the party before Dalton and his men capture you. Her fist cannot be taken away from her. 47:55 The Turrets here are slightly harder versions of Rubbles since Turrets self-destruct if the player doesn't defeat them in time. If you do manage to defeat them, you're granted 1500 EXP and 100 TP. 51:48 The Golem Overlord (Golem Boss in the SNES/PS1 translation) is a bit of a joke boss fight, but also is not. It has no damaging moves, and because it's apparently afraid of heights, you don't have to do anything, as it then flees, winning you the battle. It has 15000 HP, 127 defense, and 50 magic defense, so you can still theoretically defeat the Golem Overlord before it flees. Using Lucca's Megaton Bomb or other powerful dual techs can help. You'll obtain 2500 EXP and 40 TP for defeating it. 55:37 Dalton here, now called King Dalton, is only a tiny bit weaker than his previous battle, but only because his HP went from 3500 to 2800. He has 127 defense and 50 magic defense. He can counter whatever magic you use with its opposite, which is why his counter is called "Polarity Inversion" (in chemistry, it means swapping of positive and negative wires in differential signal links). Ayla's Boulder Toss can do some decent damage as well as Lucca and Robo's Fire Tackle dual tech. 58:53 And just like that, your Wings of Time can now fly, meaning side-quests are now effectively open. 1:00:59 This plant lady here could also be spoken to in Zeal Palace in the Kingdom of Zeal, but it is quite generous of the developers to allow the player a second chance at speaking to her, because she's a trigger for a later side-quest. 1:07:00 I guess you wouldn't often expect an RPG to force you to make a choice like this: redeeming a character. If you think about it, if Magus DID manage to kill Lavos in 600 AD, he would've indirectly saved the entire world, and no one would ever know. He didn't even use magic when he was still Prince Janus in 12000 BC, seemingly out of respect for the Earthbound Ones who were cast out of the Kingdom of Zeal for their inability to use magic or that he simply didn't want to become like his deranged mother. And in 600 AD? Yes, Magus killed Cyrus, but King Guardia XXI is almost just as evil, as he sent out his guards to attack the Fiends/Mystics/Monsters as well. In such, it seems that Magus defended himself while he tried searching for the remains of the Mammon Machine in the hopes of slaying Lavos. 1:07:24 If you have Frog in the party, he'll tell the other two party members to stay back so he could have a 1-on-1 showdown with Magus. In such, the two kinda just hammer away at each other. 1:07:38 Because his power was drained away during the battle with Lavos in the Ocean Palace, Magus can only use Lightning 2, Fire 2, and Ice 2. His defense is also no longer boosted, and he no longer has the Barrier shift. Even so, his magic attacks can still do a good amount of damage if unprepared. 1:13:00 There's something that feels so unsettling about Frog expressing such behavior after killing Magus in vengeance for Cyrus' death. Yes, Frog did finish Cyrus' dying wish in keeping Queen Leene safe, ...but is revenge truly the mark of a hero at this point in the journey? 1:13:40 The way Magus disappears, leaving Schala's Amulet, and then following it up with the somber music made me feel sorry for having done this to Magus. It seemed that Schala was the only person he seemed to care about despite leaving his past behind. 1:14:52 This here is the Black Omen. It is one of, if not the longest, dungeon in the game. Due to our little interference with the timeline, the Mammon Machine was able to generate enough before from Lavos and then converge it with the Ocean Palace to turn it into the Black Omen. It is highly recommended to prepare yourself (especially against status) before traveling into this location. 1:15:18 These two portals in 65000000 BC and 600 AD are called the Lost Sanctum, which were added into the DS version and onwards, but I HIGHLY recommend staying away from this due its repetitive nature. So, just stick with the main game and *its* side-quests instead until then, but if you ARE thinking about doing this, save it for the post-game (if you plan on doing it). 1:16:10 To exit out of Chrono Trigger on Steam, select "Settings," and then there will be a "Quit" option that will allow you to save the game. 1:19:09 I'm glad you made another save file (could theoretically be called a "timeline" since this is a video game that involves time travel) to spare Magus' life. This statement from Frog (or Marle or Lucca if you don't have Frog in the party) feels so mature. It's as if he did grow as a character since Cyrus' death and the true mark of a hero. 1:20:11 And now, Magus has joined our party. While he doesn't get much character growth as much as Frog or Robo does now that you're in the endgame, his backstory won me over to allow me to spare him, and the party is right that killing Magus wouldn't bring Crono (or Cyrus) back. He starts with three magic skills: Lightning 2, Fire 2, and Ice 2. He cannot learn dual techs with the party since it feels in character for him. However, there are at least two triple techs he can learn, and one of them involves the Black Gemstone (enables Eternal Darkness triple tech) that you picked up in the Kingdom of Zeal. The only problem is that Magus doesn't quite have the specific move required to use this move, and you probably won't be able to for a LONG time. Alright, now side-quests in this game are more available, but I recommend getting a guide to do all of the main game side-quests (unless if you're choosing to revive Crono first, according to Magus).

The point you made about Crono's death is why I tell people to watch Man on the Internet's "Chrono Trigger the Musical" because they gave Crono a personality, voice, etc and imo it helped a LOT, and made that moment so much more impactful.

@@NonEmployee Andrew Bluett also made a retrospective video essay on Chrono Trigger, analyzing why the main cast of characters (other than Frog, Robo, and Magus) are not all too compelling.
