Spekkio changes forms in the following pattern: Generic frog sprite (if your characters are underleveled at levels 1-9) Kilwala (thats the name of the white furry thing you fought) (Levels 10-19) third form (wont spoil the designs/names for you) (Levels 20-29) fourth form (Levels 30-39) fifth form(Levels 40-98) Final form (Level 99) So, the key to winning? In your case, fight him again when Crono is at level 18 or 19, right before his third phase unlocks. He gives decent stuff as the game progresses.

You couldn't go into the door at the End of Time at first, cuz the old man said "hey," which is the game's way of saying you should talk for additional dialogue, and this being a classic jrpg, it won't let you progress until the character explicitly says "oh yeah there's a thing you can interact with" Keep that in mind for future moments.

the reason the boss at Heckran cave followed up with the super powerful Water 2 spell is cuz you missed the battle message on top. He said "go ahead, just try to attack me" which is your cue to pause for a bit, otherwise he will counter big time. Lots of enemies do that in the future, so be sure to pay attention to the dialogue

Btw, like Spekkio mentioned, some of Robo's techs can do shadow damage, so you're not entirely magic-less with him. Just have to be able to discern between physical and "special" attacks like with Pokemon.

1:17:29 Indeed, you didn't! This is the point where the game starts opening up (and wont be the only point it does so). There's no plot related reason to go to 65 million BC, but you're totally free to do so, maybe grind a bit, check out the scenery and what's in store for much later. Gotta love the game for just letting you do so.

It seems you've arrived at the End of Time now, and there's quite a lot to explain here. The moment you're here, you can now challenge Lavos and (theoratically) beat it to get one of the 13 endings in the game via the right bucket. But I obviously wouldn't recommend challenging it now due to spoilers and because of how underleveled the player usually is. So, just keep moving on with the story until then. On another note, we are introduced to magic now. Something to note about magic is that the party members apparently have hidden resistances to elemental attacks. For example, Lucca is apparently resistant to fire (obviously). Ice magic attacks in this game count as *water* attacks, so don't forget about that. Light damage comes in the form of lightning, and this seemingly applies to Crono's (your) Wind Slash as well. Now, more dual techs are available to the party. Spekkio here is a unique enemy/boss in this game. His form depends on how strong your party is (I won't spoil them for you just yet). He is also immune to physical attacks as well, but there are some exceptions, say, if a physical attack were combo'd with a magic attack of some kind. Once you beat each form, he will give a reward that may revolve around stat capsules and ethers. Of course, you can still play the game just fine without having to ever fight him since he's optional. One of the most common ways to beat him is to increase your party members' speed to attack more often than he can if you don't have any magic increasing gear. 1st Form: Levels 1 to 9 2nd Form (Kilwala): Levels 10 to 19 3rd Form: Levels 20 to 29 4th Form: Levels 30 to 39 5th Form: Levels 40 to 98 6th and Final Form: Level 99 (not sure *why* you would grind this much to see this form, but it's there) Some enemies in this game, like Krawlie, tend to fight pretty cheap-ish by cutting at least one party members' HP in half or by setting it to 1. This is seemingly an attempt by the developers to try and balance out the player from getting too strong. And you know what? I like that idea. For the context of the portal to 6500000 BC being here, you do actually have a point of it just being here. It feels more like plot convenience for it to just casually show up with the other two portals of Proto Dome - 2300 AD and Medina Village - 1000 AD as we never really do anything plot-related in 6500000 BC here. But I guess the game is generous enough to let the player explore as much as they want and grind a bit more. However, I can tell you that it will be important for later. In the SNES version of Chrono Trigger, the monsters are called Mystics instead of fiends. Heckran Cave is already a good dungeon to test out the player's magic capabilities. Some of the enemies seem to resist physical damage, especially Heckran himself. Something to note is that Heckran kept doing Water 2 to your party because you seemingly ignored his counterattack message where he said, "Go ahead, try and attack! See what it gets you," while also showing his arm. So all you would have to is wait until his counterattack stance disengages (followed with a battle message), and you could also take the quick opportunity to heal. Nice! You managed to obtain the Magic Scarf AND the Taban Vest. I don't think many people tend to immediately check Lucca's House and just try to move on. So yeah. Make sure you check back with Taban during some points in the story, as he will have something to give for Lucca. Zombor (the large skeleton boss who you just fought) here has two main body parts: an upper body and a lower body. The upper body absorbs fire and light but is weak to water/ice and shadow. The lower body absorbs water/ice and shadow but is weak to fire and light. The lower body also apparently has an insta-kill move that it can use if the upper body is defeated first, so I guess you made the right choice of taking out the lower body first. At this point in the game, you WANT to buy lots of Mid-Potions, Shelters, and Panaceas on your journey to stop this "Magus" character from creating Lavos. Important note: make sure you give a LOT of magic and speed capsules to Lucca in the long run. Lucca is blatantly the strongest magic user in the game, so there's that. The strength capsules do wonders for Crono's and especially Robo's damage outputs.

@@MrMilesTV Fun Fact: "Spekkio" is a phonetic spelling of the Italian word for "Specchio" (meaning that they are spelled differently, but are pronounced similarly). "Specchio" means "Mirror" in Italian, which refers to his reflection of the party's current power level.

Also, just to add to your question/confusion on the 65 million BC portal: As you progress you'll notice more gates that pop up. You had to go to Medina village with the monsters/fiends in order to "register" the gate at Leene square. Moreover, the moment you made the Leene square gate a part of the End of Time, the gate to 600AD also popped up, which indicates that some gates are connected for story reasons (remember, Lucca's inventions made the gates at Leene square, and the one at Truce canyon 600AD, hence the connection) So, why was the 65 million BS gate there from the moment you stepped foot in the End of Time? That's up to interpretation - there's no spoiler here, different fans have different theories. For some its as simple as "gameplay reasons" and for others, I've heard stuff like "well your party is from 1000, and Robo is from 2300, hence why their respective gates are there - so maybe some random caveman or dinosaur stumbled on to the End of Time?" This is funny, but I personally just choose to explain it from a game dev perspective > "well, we added a gate to the far future, one for the present, so why not add one for the distant past"

Well, for me, because we have traveled through a time portal with 4 people, I can only assume it caused a rift in time so powerful that it forced the portal to 6500000 BC to appear as well, but that's just my headcanon.
