Chronos and Breeze meet each other for first time!

Chronos and Breeze recently moved to their own dens at Animals Asia's Vietnam sanctuary.
They'd spent some time in quarantine where our bear care team built up their strength and confidence after spending around 20 years living in small, dark cages on bile farms.
After settling into their new surroundings and meeting each other through the door between their dens, they were ready to meet each other properly - the first bear each of them had ever met.
As bears are naturally solitary animals, and bears on bile farms can't interact with others, the process of integrating them at sanctuary is a carefully considered and planned process. Our team watches interactions closely, monitoring the bears' reactions and ensuring they're safe and happy.
It doesn't always go exactly to plan, but in Chronos and Breeze's case we're delighted to say it went better than we could have hoped for!

For stranger Bears(to each other)--they certainly have an intrinsic , gentle nature that comes out when they meet each other--probably reinforced with Carer attention they also get as individuals. Thanks for the Video.

I'm amazed at how you can introduce naturally solitary animals to each other and not end up with a disaster! I imagine that having plenty of food helps break down the territorial impulse, as well as having been cooped up all of their lives in a tiny space. Great question. It’s very, very rare that the bears fight or attack each other. Our expert bear care team assess each bears’ personality, mobility, temperament and needs carefully and place them with compatible bears. Usually bears will get on very well, or if they’re not bothered about each other, will just ignore each other and coexist happily. If the worst happens we will separate the bears. We make sure every single bear is as happy as possible and feels comfortable in their homes.

They have actually so playful nature. I don't understand why in the wild their solitary. They could live in families at least the females.

These bears don’t seem as dangerous as regular bears

Although they appear fluffy and cuddly, bears are a large omnivorous species that weigh between 80 and 200kg, have large canines and powerful claws. Even a playful interaction with a bear could seriously harm a human. None of our staff ever go in with a bear and the only time anyone gets up close without bars separating them is when a bear is fully anaesthetised in the hospital. Generally, watching these amazing animals interact with each other from a distance is more than gratifying enough!
