Chubby Tavares - Yesterday & Today

Chubby Tavares, front man of the Grammy winning musical group, "Tavares" has released his new solo album, "Can't Knock Me Down" working with hit songwriter and producer Preston Glass (Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind & Fire, Kenny G). In this video Chubby speaks about the history of his career with his brothers. There is an intimate story about Barry Gibb and the Bee Gees that led to "Tavares" winning a Grammy for Best Album of the Year on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. This is an important body of work for Chubby as it addresses issues that are topical in today's society in an effort to deliver a message to help put an end to violence. @WAYNE MORGAN Thank you so much for posting your personal knowledge abt what they are really like, off stage too.. I've always felt they were really good/nicest ppl. But you know, you get on yourself, "you don't really know them" but I felt what I did strongly & It's NOT something I do often re ppl I've never met. I do have some woman's intuition, or insights into ppl on rare occasion ,& put together with just how they handle themselves, how they interact w/audience, how all speak of their mother, who passed in 1980-81? I thought basically what you said abt them. I feel... you can learn a lot more than you think abt ppl if you pay attn & really listen to things, their opinions...how they treat ea other. My daddy had a great love & relationship with his mother. I dont understand women when they resent that. My mother taught me Men who have a good r'ship with their mother make the best husbands. . 🎶I LOVE the music, itsl just phenomenal! As are all their voices, ea having Their own individual special vocal, obviously God given, talents. But you can tell they work hard caring for what they are blessed with & are grateful for them & the life they've had. You can see how they are supportive of each other & so nice when interact with fans, treating them all equally! I love that!!! Aw just wish I cld get to a concert!! Other unique things are they are into their 60s & 70s in videos I watch here now & have stayed gifted with youthful looks & abilities you don't often see. They sing & dance as if time stands still for them. They are still The original 5 brothers, still getting on stage, doing all that! I've never seen that in any other similar situation quite like them. They are truly a treasure I'm certainly grateful for, as are many other fans that comment here. They have HUGE audiences in vids(blows me away how big) & thousands upon thousands of fans here, of all ages. Youngest telling how glad they are their parents raised them on Tavares. Chubby Tevares....fantastic singer, dancer. Humanitarian. Love in his family is strong. Few know Chubby took several gunshots trying to shield and save his beloved sister in the UK years ago. He nearly gave his life to protect her....but failed. She was lost to the family and Chubby badly wounded. Such love in that family of 10 kids. Mom and dad did fine job with them. Chubby also lost a son to violence...senseless. Much love and respect for Chubby. 🎶💕🎶

I have been on a Tavares binge for at least 2 weeks now.I have ALWAYS loved Tavares and have rediscovered them ALL OVER AGAIN!!. I have watched numerous videos of Tavares over and over again and have enjoyed them all so much!!! As a matter of I have ordered at least SIX cds from both eBay and Amazon.Madame Butterfly(eBay) is on its way from Japan. I feel so happy when I am watching Tavares on ALL of these wonderful videos and have downloaded all of these cds that I purchased onto my Ipod(yes I still have the original 160gb one) and enjoy listening in my car.I have LOVED Tavares ESPECIALLY CHUBBY TAVARES from when I was in my mid-teens and saw them sing Check It Out on Soul Train. I saw them at the Disco Ball many years ago in Atlantic City, N.J. When Tavares was finishing up with Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel I left my then boyfriend sitting and tried to get to the stage to shake Chubby's hand but the crowd was too thick.It was ELECTRIC as everyone was dancing and enjoying their performance and just when I thought that it couldn't get any better, CHUBBY DID A DOUBLE SPLIT and as an RN i was FLOORED by his flexibility!! Yes, I am late discovering the 2 latest CDs;Jealousy(BRAND NEW from eBay) and Can't Knock Me Down( Amazon).My favorite song from Jealousy is the title cut and my favorite songs from Can't Knock Me Down are Deep Breath,I lf There's A Next Time, And Silent Whisper(dedicated to his late son,Jason(RIP). I am listening to this cd even as I type. (Whew!! I wrote alot!!! LOL)Dear Chubby; Maybe one day I WILL get to shake your hand and you have a FOREVER FAN IN ME AND YOU ARE MY FOREVER CRUSH!!!!!!!!!

What a great interview. I have several Tavares cd’s and even some 45’s, and always loved their songs especially “Check It Out” a soulful plea to a girl to just listen, but I never appreciated how great they are as people. I was a kid loving the songs and the performances. The music was great. But now, beyond that, I see that these men were and are real in the realest sense. I’m going all the way back now to the beginning to actually listen to this group with real understanding. I’m falling for them all over again like it’s brand new..

Chubberson LeVar "Chubby" Tavares (April 1, 1948 - July 4, 1989) founded the band Tavares while still attending New Bedford High in 1965. Constant fighting in the group lead to Chubby replacing the original members one by one with his brothers, and fame soon came knocking.
