The version I always heard started the first verse as "When I was a little bitty boy, my Grandmother bought me a cute little toy, silver bells hanging on a string, she told me it was my ding-a-ling-a-ling". I guess that's how the song got airplay on the radio when I was a kid, lol! Later in the song I'm sure it was in England too because Chuck shouts out "You know that's future Parliament out there singin'! Oh Yeah!!" In that version there was a lot more participation by the men and women too. Here it is if you'd like to hear it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZqmhIZ_erqooc0

Jamel, when I was 7 my parents would have the aunts, uncles, and cousins over for poker night on the weekends. They played this song one weekend and all of us kids learned it word for word. Monday our mothers had to come to school because 7 of us got together at recess and sang "My Ding a Ling" at the top of our lungs. Our teachers were not impressed, our mothers thought it was funny. 🤣😂

One of the greats!!!!!! In the studio version it started, When I was a little boy my Grandmother bought me a cute little toy. Silver bells on a string, she called it My ding-a-ling!!!

I saw Chuck perform live in the UK in 1983. 10cc were the next act on stage followed by the main attraction 'Meatloaf'. At the end of Chucks' stint the crowd just chanted "We Want Chuck, We Want Chuck" in reply to the anouncement that the stage was being prepared for 10cc, he was that entertaining. Happy days.

Without Chuck Berry, there is no rock n roll. One of the founding fathers. Maybellene or Roll over Beethoven are both good ones from Mr. Berry. Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino is another song by a founding father that is worth a listen. Thank you for what you do. Please know that you are appreciated.

It's crying shame that the biggest hit in the career of the legend that is Chuck Berry, is this silly novelty record, and not one of his classics like Johnny B Goode, Maybellene, Memphis Tennessee, or Sweet Little Sixteen.

And though his legendary '50s hits were originals, this was a COVER by Chuck Berry! He added a lot to it, but here's the original "My Ding-A-Ling" from 1952 by Dave Bartholomew from New Orleans (better known as Fats Domino's longtime bandleader): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZjcd2WDq5hpZrM There was also this version from 1954 by a group called The Bees under the name "Toy Bell": kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWasoKWGpp2eaLM

This takes me back to the fourth grade. My friend and I used to walk around the playground seeing this. I got to see Chuck Berry live at a club in San Diego around 1990. He was such a great entertainer. We sat through the second show, and still didn't want it to end.

I believe that whoever put this one together skipped the 1st verse where his grandma gave him the bells on a string and called it his ding a ling

I don't think he's going to do a 40 minute reaction. Even the chopped version is 25 minutes long
