With the railway industry seeming to often try its hardest to put people off using trains, it's great seeing Geoff and his friends showing how the lines link communities and travelling by rail can be so enjoyable.

It's lines like this, that show the rail network isn't simply about funneling people from A to B. There's a reason the railway era is romanticised.

Hi Geoff, loving the series. I did the Heart of Wales Trail in 2021, and my closest station is Llangadog. That was actually the last station before the Sherwood Forester flat spotted its wheels to the point where it couldn't proceed any further, and ended up spending a week stuck at Llandeilo. It is a fantastic line, and can fully recommend the hike from Craven Arms to Llanelli (not completed in 4 days!)

Well the best of this little series so far! Love all those little stations .. highlight for me was the two goats at Cilmeri Station .. took me back to the early 60’s visiting my grandparents home in Mary Tavy in Devon .. my grandfather had two goats Easter & Wonder which he kept in a paddock at the back of his home … sadly all long gone as is the station there 😢. Thank you for this lovely series Geoff!

I remember our first trip on the line back in the 1980's when we caught the early train from Shrewsbury in one of the old first generation DMU's where we sat in seats behind the driver looking out of the front windows. At one of the stations the driver waited for the regular commuter but the commuters wife showed to say that her husband was ill and wouldn't be travelling that day. Just imagine that happening anywhere else.

When I was a kid the signal box in Llandrindod was about a mile away at the crossing (between the crossing chippy and Hodges). They moved it to make it more central. For a while it was a museum. Mind you, back then it was a single track. They made it back to be dual track in the late 80s

I agree with the "standing train" description, with the exception of if it's the end of the line so the train changes service to work the other direction, so has a new headcode. Because sometimes its a long wait at the end of branches.

It was over twenty five years ago, but I waited patiently at Knucklas station one Sunday afternoon for either the only train that day ( or one of two ). Got off at the next stop, Llangunllo, and walked back to Knucklas. Did the same thing a few years later from Hopton Heath to Bucknell. Ian Marchant presented a programme on Radio 4 a long time ago on the weekly service from Stockport to Stalybridge.
