It's so good to have a new one of these after such a long time -- although on the map the big beige triangle does now overlap some of the other graphics, which the original 'us' graphic did not do.

Great video thanks for posting. I/we have used Purley, and Purley Oaks, as a base for exploring London; with my dog. as well as Epsom. It was always a lovely drive down to Purley, then train and Tube into London; then train back to the Travelodge in the evening/s. And even in Winter, it always seemed to be mild and sunny. [My German Shepherd dog was always very well behaved, and served as my 'Help dog]; and always attracted the attention and strokes haha. On Sundays, we had a nice drive have.

The panel 4 signaller "Gatwick" has sent the Reading service 165 up the fast as its come in late to get it past the the freight but panel 3 "Redhill" has decided to keep the freight moving 👍🏼 "good move" the 165 has to change ends anyway at Redhill so no point bringing the freight to a stop just to allow the 165 across infront of it, as for the other 377 at Redhill hard to see if it had reds or whites on it so may have been a reigate or Tunbridge service, or just another "good move'👍🏼

@DadRail7 ай бұрын
Hi John, thanks for the kind worlds. The red kink is simply where I changed the track alignment on the map. The map is a bit tight for space so sometimes I have to shift the tracks depending on what junctions etc are approaching.

4:51 I'm guessing the aws magnet is for traffic heading the other way, but what prevents it from activating here?
@AndreiTupolev8 ай бұрын
It's probably activated only when there's a train signalled onto that track in the other direction
@LeeSmith-cf1vo8 ай бұрын
@@AndreiTupolev my understanding is that's not possible because there is a permanent magnet involved (which makes it fail safe)
@philipstanbridge65358 ай бұрын
The Brighton main line is signalled for reversible running from Balcombe Tunnel junction to Preston Park. AWS magnets for signals opposing the traffic flow are suppressed so that they don’t give a warning horn in the cab. If they were not you would see a cancellation marker 200m afterwards to tell the driver that the warning was not applicable. Permanent ones which are rare are a white diagonal cross on a blue background, those for temporary speed restrictions are a black cross on a yellow background
@LeeSmith-cf1vo8 ай бұрын
@@philipstanbridge6535 the question really is how does the suppression work?
@philipstanbridge65358 ай бұрын
I believe that normal aws magnets have a permanent magnet and an electromagnet, the bi directional ones have two electro magnets so they can both be deactivated

When will they get around to four tracking the BML south like the London & Brighton South Coast Railway said they would do and also when will East Croydon get remodeling?
@DadRail8 ай бұрын
There is no point the rest of the network is already above capacity. You would need to remodel Gatwick, East Croydon, Windmill and cottage junctions, and Selhurst. Even then the amount of pathways on the already 4 track sections between East Croydon and London Bridge / Victoria is already at capacity. The additional capacity gained by 4 tracking south of BTJ wouldn’t be utilised.

On these 90mph sections, how fast do the passenger trains go? 65-70mph?
@DadRail7 ай бұрын
90 is easily achievable for the electrostars and 700s on the route. Ive have only driven passenger on this route between Redhill and East Croydon, but after crosssing from slow to fast at Stoats Nest, you could easily achieve 90 before slowing for the 60 at South Croydon.

I was about to make the same point. I passed to and fro on the main line umpteen times when I commuted, and very occasionally saw one of these aggregate trains lurking at the mouth of the branch. There is I think a Bluebell Railway video made to raise hopes of reopening their line to Haywards Heath and thus connect to the main line at both ends. Still possible I suppose, but unlikely.
