Great review. I am 45 years old and I can remember when the 1911 was the choice of most men, especially the men of my grandfather's age. I do not understand why people keep comparing the 1911 to the Glock or any polymer style handgun, they're not the same gun. That would be like comparing the M1 Garand to the AR-15, they're not the same gun. Thanks for the video.

I carried my U.S.B.P. service revolver for 26 years and never felt as though I was in jeopardy because of low round count. I remember when the FBI was carrying S&W 3" Model 13s and formally warned about adopting high volume semi-auto pistols. They stated that there would be many more rounds fired in an armed encounter if an officer was carrying a semi-auto. That has certainly proven to be true. Col. Jeff Cooper used to say that high volume semi-auto pistols really work well, "If someone plans to miss a lot." We stressed at the academy that an officer can not miss fast enough to win a gun fight. - kw

Great review. I have a Colt 1911 that is pretty much mil spec. I've owned for over 20 years. I like how you pointed out the nuances of shooting a milspec 1911. How you hold the gun while shooting the gun. Explaining how to handle the recoil and all the other features/characteristics of a 1911A1. I found out the hard way that there is a learning curve to shooting the 1911A1. It is a different feel compared to 98.5% of the polymer framed striker fired pistols. Keep up with the great reviews.

This looks like a great gun - and I am looking to pick one up for Cowboy (Wild Bunch) matches. However... you are dead wrong about the high-end 1911s. Done properly, they CAN be perfectly fit AND ultra-reliable. My Wilson Combat commpetition gun (too modern and illegal for Wild Bunch matches) has been shot thousands and thousands of rounds, often a few thousand between cleanings, and has NEVER failed. If a 1911 is just "tight" without being perfectly fit, yes, reliability suffers. Military 1911s were loosely fit for parts interchangablility. And yes - they were reliable in adverse conditions. But so are perfectly fit pistols from Wilson, Nighthawk and the like. Nice review. Subbed!

Interesting. I’m looking for my first 1911. I’m glad this one has a flat mainspring housing. I recently held a rounded one and it wasn’t as comfortable as the flat. Any issues with the beaver tail digging into your hand or hammer bite? That’s my only concern with the mil spec style. The beaver tail has pretty sharp edges vs the more modern swooping up smooth style.

Nice, but the gun seems to be a hybrid between the M1911 of WWI and the refined version that served from circa 1930 to its final military retirement. For example, the frame lacks the scalloped relief cuts behind the trigger guard, a distinctive feature of the M1911. The Cimarron pistol also lacks the arched mainspring housing characteristic of the M1911-A1. At the close of the Great War, the Ordinance Board of the Department of the Army took some pains to review the performance of the weapons of the United States Army in light of actual combat experience, including the standard sidearms, the Colt M1917 revolver, the Smith & Wesson M1917, and the Colt M1911 automatic pistol. The M1911 had a number of what we'd call ergonomic issues. As adopted they were less useful by soldiers with smaller hands. Consequently, the Board recommended a shorter trigger and scalloped cuts behind the trigger guard to reduce the maximum reach of the shooter's index finger. Soldiers also complained about discomfort caused by the flat backstrap and "hammer bite". The Board recommended the flat mainspring housing be replaced with an arch housing (much like the "palm swell" backstrap feature of many modern handguns) and the adoption of a new grip safety with a longer "beaver tail" and a shortened hammer spur. The existing M1911 guns were returned to Colt in batches to be modified in compliance with the new A1 standard. By about 1930 virtually all the Government Model Colt automatics had been remanufactured as M1911-A1 sidearms, though a small number somehow escaped modification. Here's a photograph of a genuine unmodified M1911 as used by the American Expeditionary Forces in WWI: d3h6k4kfl8m9p0.cloudfront.net/stories/53kwk6b0Uhgur8-g-b9Isw.jpg Note how the tip of the hammer spur overlaps the grip safety. Note also the length of the trigger, the trigger guard, and the mainspring housing in comparison to this photograph of an M1911-A1 manufactured by Singer in 1940: www.rockislandauction.com/detail/72/2446/documented-finest-condition-us-singer-manufacturing-co-model The Cimarron gun is basically a replica of the Colt .45 Auto as issued and used in 1917 with a grip safety beaver tail derived from the A-1 standard for shooter comfort, consequently it is neither an M1911 nor an M1911-A1, but a hybrid, as are most modern guns of this configuration.

8:50 I'm tired of hearing people say that these guns were never intended to have tight tolerances. If you hear this, it's a ton of regurgitated nonsense. Unless you own one of these guns you have 0 room to speak because you just don't know, you only repeat the nonsense like I used too. I personally own a Colt Model of 1911 made in 1913. It has 0 wobble between the slide and the frame and it shoots amazing. Colt made a bunch of these guns using the same tooling for years and years. The later guns have looser tolerances because of the wear on the tooling. I have also read arguments about a different metal process causing some guns to wear faster. I can't say wether that is true or not. I can say my 100 yr old 1911 does not have a loose slide.
