Something I love about CGB is that he’s clearly trying to learn the game. LSV has good card analysis because he’s been a top player forever, but he’s still basically shooting from the hip all the time. Rarran, somehow having actually played YGO seems to instantly forget everything between videos. On the other hand, CGB is taking notes, asking pertinent questions about what sorts of things are good or bad in the game, and brings up lessons from previous videos. The end goal imo isn’t to laugh at a newbie for not knowing cards, but to see someone’s understanding of the game grow, and CGB feels like the only one to take the assignment seriously. Please keep having him on!

@mrfatmancoryАй бұрын
Unpopular opinion here, Imperial Orders errata was a good errata. Like sure, it was still broken, and in the end it still needed to be banned. But it kept the spirit of the card without ruining the legacy of the card. I would rather have 100 Imperil order "Not harsh enough" Errata's than a single CED errata again.
@ibra8096Ай бұрын
I think if they errata'd it to say "Banish this card, for the rest of this turn spells and effects are negated." So it would still "technically" be a continuous trap but also would banish for effect, so you can still stop it by chaining a pop like before. It's not searchable by thrust or copyable by rollback. (Need exactly foolish burial goods and link 4 knightmare gryphon or to hard draw it.) At that point, it's essentially Kali yuga but spells only and counterable, making it different from anti-spell fragrance.
@janisir4529Ай бұрын
Erratas are just generally bad across the board, unless they actually just fix the text on it, without changing the effect.
@ibra8096Ай бұрын
@@janisir4529 the way Konami does them, yeah. Usually over-nerf a card when they could just make a new one with a similar name instead, then unban the card when it is powercrept enough (e.g., how they murdered brain control but ended up unbanning change of heart).
@Lorens4444Ай бұрын
I think it's time to reverse some erratas: Goyo Guardian was legal at 3 in the TCG for so long with no errata, and no one cared, and they gave him errata to bring him back to the OCG, affecting the TCG in the process. Another one is Sinister Serpent. Seriously, would anyone play it just to wait two turns?
@netweed09Ай бұрын
But your logic adds up to nothing: the Card's still banned - why is it even in a discussion? Just like CED - no one cares about that card anymore because it was always going to be Perma-banned in it's Original 'full' state, and the shot-nerfed state is not Good enough to see top Tier play. If a Card is banned - that's the worst thing that can happen to it: Period. But if unbanned again, it shows it is a Healthy design. We should have OP cards, I like them; but 0 point if they get banned.

Straight up banishing face-down might be a bit too punishing, but at the same time, banishing 6 cards alone could also be used to your advantage in some decks like Gren Maju. Graceful was banned for the first 2 banned lists, came back during goat format, and then was banned along with pot of greed- for the first time - after goat
@SimonGrandellАй бұрын
It was also legal along with confiscation without pot of greed for atleast one banlist. I remember that since that was how it was when i started playing yu-gi-oh.

That's twice you've got this card wrong Cimo. DAD was never banned..just Limited for a VERY long time.

You should try to make some of these magic players try a few draft matches through these earlier eras of yu-gi-oh youre introducing them to, could be really fun seeing them put what they learned to the test!

MTG has Squee Goblin Nabob and the Immortal. The fisrt return to your hand during the Upkeep if its in your GY and the second you can alway play from the GY or Exile. I think that is very close to Sinister serpent, specially Goblin Nabob
@YukiFubuki.Ай бұрын
can it happen indefinite amount of times, 1 of the things that wasnt mentioned unless I didnt catch it is that sinister serpent can return an unlimited amount of times even within the same standby phase if it somehow finds itself there again no matter how many times it returned to the hand, this effectively gave it infinite loop potential if any players managed to find any sort of combo or synergy that can take advantage of this aspect so konami just nuked this potential in the bud on errata

Soul Charge is also probably one of the best topdecks you can hope to have. It's completely crushing when you play against someone, you trade all your ressources for theirs, simplified gamestate, and they just find a way to topdeck soul charge.

As a yugioh boomer, i remember doing a big trade for this for lightsworn cards like judgment dragon and some others, I figured it would be banned and lightsworn would take over, i guessed correctly. Offloaded it before its value tanked. It was probably the biggest trade i ever took part in, and they guy went back and fourth for like 20 minutes before agreeing.

CGB’s reaction to crush card reminds me of how I felt when I used to get cooked by brilliant fusion when it was at 3

We really needa give cgb a chance to experience lockdown decks first hand. Control decks are one thing. Setting 5 and passing with legal floodgates is entirely another thing.

That's a great idea for the next part of this series. Give them broken, pre-determined, iconic decks and have thrm duel against your underpowered, janky deck to see if they could put together a win and possibly even figure out the primary win condition and common combos.
@dontmisunderstand6041Ай бұрын
That's not much of a series. Or a game. I don't understand why Yugioh players love pretending that their game is super complex or that their decks are difficult to understand. Especially when you're talking about people who are already good at highly complex card games in their own right.
@uuh4yj43Ай бұрын
@@dontmisunderstand6041 if it was rogue vs meta and blind going into the deck, it could work. but if you read the cards you pretty much can play fine. as a ygo player i think i would absolutely suck at magic, but i dont think a magic player would suck at ygo given they understand like the basic rules or are playing in a simulator.
@dontmisunderstand6041Ай бұрын
@@uuh4yj43 The gap between a rogue deck and a meta deck is small enough that the experience gap with the game will matter. But that experience gap will not be large enough to swing the outcomes outside of incredibly lame and unsatisfying scenarios. Losing to stupid judge rulings from 15 years ago that should've been overturned just isn't fun. Nor are the "gotcha" mechanics that are you have no way of knowing even exist until they already cost you the entire match. I play both Yugioh and MtG. They do test different skillsets, though the overlaps does lead to Yugioh being easy for an MtG player to grasp, while the Yugioh player will struggle with land math and the exponentially more complex boardstates that MtG puts out. Resource management is another thing Yugioh doesn't prepare its players for that will absolutely cost you games of MtG. Doing nothing is almost never the best play in Yugioh, but sometimes it is for MtG.

I know mistakes happen but both IO and DAD had inaccuracies. IO stayed legal for a long time post errata, and DAD was never banned. If you have someone who can proofread and fact check for this series I think it would help a lot without increasing your already large workload

There's an argument for naming 1 and 2 with sixth sense. Not a great argument, but an argument. The only way the card is bad is I'd you don't say 1 and then you roll 1. In that world, the card you just milled could have been drawn instead if sixth sense hadn't been on top of it. But, milling 3+ cards is probably good. Drawing 1 card is a slight positive (because you've effectively made a 39 card deck instead of 40) and drawing 2 is very good. So, if you name 1 and 2, you throw away the 33% chance the card will immediately win you the game, but turn it into a 100% chance that the card will be good for you (rather than accepting a 33% chance it might be bad). It's not a strong case, but if I was already winning and wanted a surefire advantage rather than a chance at immediate victory, I might do it.
