The music is so perfect. If you're in Mark's position at this point in the movie, this scene is a rush of endorphins like you're a newly crowned king with the admiration and devotion of everyone around. If you're Eduardo, it's intimidating how fast you're losing power and influence to the new guy who is winning everyone over with such easy charisma and charm. I love the ambiguity-it's electric and terrifying all at once.

I've always found "his biggest contribution to the company" has two meanings. 1. In one way, it's huge. It's how everyone will know it forever. Sean completely upturned the company down to leaving his mark on its name. 2. In another way, it's miniscule. He removed one word from the name and that was his BIGGEST contribution. Sean's expertise is in words and appearances, not in the hard work of actually making anything.

In Chinese, or at least there is a saying in Malaysia, "靠一张嘴巴吃饭“, which literally translates to relying on one mouth to eat rice. It is used to describe people like Sean as having no real skills or talent, never put in any kind of real work/effort and only knows how to use his mouth to get what he wants.
@justinhopper5941
@justinhopper5941 Жыл бұрын
That’s a good point, it could have two meanings and Eduardo could have meant it more sarcastically. The way he felt about Sean definitely plays into the line having a more sarcastic tone. Parker of course did contribute and got investors to put money into the company and you can bet Eduardo wouldn’t bring that up lol because it obviously made him obsolete and he wasn’t needed.
@nationalsocialism3504

It's huge BECAUSE it's miniscule... Facebook had a lot of competitors & Mark stole the idea from others at his own school to begin with. Being "Harvards" gave it the initial prestige but the marketing is what pushed it to win out over the others... part of that marketing was dropping the "The" from the name.

Regardless of what was meant by that comment, branding states that , Facebook is more catching then The Facebook. Not everything valuable, has to be complicated. Sometimes the simplest change brings the most value. Now, lets not forget , without Sean Parker, there would be no Peter Thiel and without Peter Thiel, facebook wouldnt have raised a dime and would have failed . So, without Sean Parker, there would be no facebook . All facebook was at that time, was just another social networking site and there were many to include the biggest of them all, Myspace.

I was really surprised how decent Justin Timberlake’s performance was as Sean given most musicians have tried and failed at acting, but I guess that what happens when you’re teamed up with such a talented director in David Fincher. Apparently Jonah Hill was considered, but I think Justin really brought something with his role. Timberlake’s casting is also ironic on two fronts: Timberlake’s boy band NSYNC were one of the biggest artists affected by Napster in the late 90’s/early 00’s, and in 2011, Justin bought his own social network with MySpace which was once the largest social networking site in the world before being surpassed by Facebook in 2008.

Sean had the connections that Saverin simply did not, so even if Saverin put up the $1,000 in the beginning, Sean was entitled to much more ownership stock than Saverin. Over 50 lawyers have confirmed this in multiple studies. Eddie Saverin is lucky he got a small portion of the site. He didn't have the mind to think big.

Mark looks so smug in the corner 2:46 (my favorite) Sean interrupts Eduardo talking about their stats and even though Mark starts talking, we hold on Eduardo as he sinks back down 3:25 Eduardo realizes Mark has been completely validated by what Sean is saying, so he sets his dessert down and leans back, already defeated 4:08 Mark is just staring at Sean, enamored, even though Eduardo and Christy are talking

That's not true. Neither of these comments are true. In real life, unlike how he was portrayed in this film, he is a quiet, industrious guy. Because he'd sent an email to the early Napster founders and in that email had used the term "pirating", which the RIAA (record industry) lawyers then used against Napster, he took a huge amount of the blame for the downfall of that service, far more than he deserved. This movie was undeservedly cruel to Sean Parker. He's an introvert, a quiet, nice person. He is the absolute opposite of how this movie shows him.

Sean is clearly written as the most unlikeable character in the movie and Eduardo as the most likable (how they truly were in real life, I don’t think anyone will completely know). The thing is, as smart, practical, and hard working as Eduardo’s character is, the douchey Sean is correct about everything regarding Facebook. Sean Parker's act was a bit much, and remember, he's only about four years older than Mark and Eduardo, but I think the point of this scene is the following: 1. For Facebook to take the next step, it had to relocate to California. That's where the Silicon Valley money was and where the engineering talent necessary to grow the company was. 2. Sean's vision was more inline with Mark's than Eduardo's. 3. Eduardo wasn't fully "all in." He's living on the East Coast, wants to continue going to school, wants to intern at another company, and he almost treats FB as a side gig.

People who think that changing the name was Sean's biggest contribution needs to get a clue. He had the connections to the necessary investors that raised enough capital to keep them going until they started being profitable.

Not a huge fan of Eduardo, but I feel the way they squeezed him out was very unjustified. Before Sean, Eduardo was the cool one. Sean basically made him into a nerd and it got him jealous.

Which, from what I heard from another comment, Napster declared bankruptcy in '06? They supposedly revamped recently, but by then, KZbin, Spotify, and other streaming services popped up to fill the vacuum.
