Holy smokes. I’ve only seen two shows and they were the best most moving shows ever. The show is managed with such elegance. People are provided such a safe space to make it so raw and translucent. Very profound. The feelings and experience translate. Wow. Blows American shows away. It’s such a gift, this show. With purpose.

this story is very similar to another case on a show that is american. the reunion was absolutely beautiful, one of my favorites; i've rewatched that scene over and over. then i saw this story today, and the reunion reminded me of that one. i've also rewatched this one several times.

I felt so sorry for Flo, too. It was just her and her dad after her mom died when Flo was 7.5 years old, and she had no contact with anyone from her mother’s side. When her dad then later died, she was completely alone. How wonderful the two sisters found each other.

Am I the only one that sees some heartbreak on Martin’s adoptive parents faces when he is talking about how he feels?
@kulsoomahsan4440
@kulsoomahsan4440 3 жыл бұрын
I think the heartbreak was for him that he had felt that rejection. And that he hadn't felt like he could talk about it and just left for a couple of years instead. And it seemed his parents had not realized until he finally said it, that rejection was what he was feeling as far as his feelings towards his birth mother. I think the mom especially wishes he had just asked to find his birth mom, she said she had information and had always been ready to give it to him if he asked for it but he didnt. Many moms adoptive or biological feel helpless and protective towards their kids as they watch their kids struggle with things that they can't help them with. I think that's where the parents felt heartbreak.... that they had been ready to help him but he hadn't been ready for it and suffered until he was ready.

When you love a child and they hurt, it’s the worst feeling ever that you can’t take it away or help.. My son is incredibly stubborn.. I felt every bit of his mom saying, “if you’d have come to me…” .. sigh.. sometimes they just HAVE to do it themselves.. even if you know much much better.. you have to let it play out and just be there to catch them in the end 😢 Considering how deeply he felt rejection despite the obvious love and support he has.. I’m sure she’s felt broke hearted lots of times.. I hope this finally helps set him free.. so he stops carrying around emotions that are misplaced and crippling..

@@FigaroHey I suppose it’s because I always felt loved by my parents. I had a brother who was also adopted. I never questioned that she must have had a valid reason for giving me up and was glad I wasn’t aborted. She was worried about me feeling bad about her. She did the best thing. I needed parents, she was single and no longer involved with the dad. When my parents got old, I was happy to be able to be there for them.

@@monicafedel3307it may have helped to have an adopted brother. You had someone to relate to. I think people just process things differently. Maybe he felt rejected at school and that was compounded when finding out he was adopted. That's why telling a child they're adopted at the right age is crucial. I think it's almost better to never hide it from them, always keep it open from when they're a baby.

Martyn was sweet, I'm glad he found his completion - what a story! So many wonderful and patient adoptive parents on this show. Anne seemed to be linking her marriage with finding her mother in a very odd way that wasn't fair to her financé. Asking Flo to walk her down the aisle the same hour she met her was high volume. I am glad they found each other and hope Anne doesn't frighten Flo away. I feel they need each other.

I understand his adoptive parents were confused by his sudden disappearance, but statements like “if you had questions, you could have asked” kind of rubs me the wrong way. Adoptive parents MUST be proactive and make the initiative. They should have said “if you ever want to know, you can come to us.” Kids are so afraid of offending their parents, and assume that if it wasn’t a topic of conversation, there was a reason. Silence also speaks on implicit feelings. He responded to their silence on the background of his adoption with his own silence.

Let me ask you all this . Now mind you this is just my opinion. If someone is adopted and or those who are giving up their babies or babies or toddlers , children or children aka children. There is sometimes where someone can write a letter. But what they should do or make it know or be a law is how in that letter or in the papers medical issues on the mother side and father side . No matter of rape or non rape or abusive relationship etc it should be up to them to find said mom or dad etc etc or siblings.

To listen to the words of Martin's mother was heartbreaking. That a mother a baby didn't receive support either from the family or society is gutwrenching. All I have to say, in my 70th year, is that men/society have failed miserably in fulfilling their biological destinies; to protect and defend the weak and defenseless.

tikki He’s a grown man. If he needs distance, he needs distance. There may be other things going on in their relationship that caused him to pull away. The tone of the adoptive mother’s voice sounds like she wanted to be sure to be there when he did his search....sounds a bit controlling to me.

With the assumption that the production team has the intention to portray a person in the best light possible, thn Martin didn't come across in a good way. The production team knew that the footage of Martin wasn't very flattering so they started off with him making a big excuse for his behaviors by him saying that you can't understand him if you're not adopted, which isn't true and there are many adoptees that don't share his view. Martin came across as a bitter, self-centered, attention seeking brat, I hope for everyone around him that the meeting changed him for the better.

I sense because of the horrific situation he went through with his mum as a baby that their bond was deep Maybe supernatural . He sensed her sorrow for him and that is why he left his sweet home . He is blessed to have such unconditional love from his adorable adoptive parents . They could have been too hurt to forgive him but they weren’t ! Blessings from California . 🕊 🌞 🦚

There are people who react in such a deeply negative way to news, or events, that the trauma stays with them for a long time and I speak from the experience: my mother had schizophrenia. Something intensely traumatic can leave one feeling alone and very singular- "There's no one out there who can understand." Not having baby pictures can be disturbing because it's as if your personal history started at the age of 2 or 3. The baby picture I thought was of me turned out to be an older brother. My earliest photos are around age 3 and I'm not adopted. I totally get the pain he lived with all those years.

@@Catoperatheater doesn’t change the need to see your biological roots. It’s very selfish to assume you can “rescue” a baby and then change everything about them and try to ignore the other valid portion of their identity. It’s part and parcel with the process of adoption. And should be considered before adopting
