I've been trying to recreate sand dunes for a long time, looking up for different resources to see how others achieve the dunes' shape, and yours is the best and most realistic and better looking approach. Awesome tutorial, thank you!

Great stuff as usual! I use both Redshift and Octane and the wavy lines part would have been so much easier in Octane. It has its own native pattern generator so there's no need to mess with those old C4D surface shaders and all that. Cheers, M.

Alternatively you could use a plain effector on point mode? I like that method and use fields to alter the landscape. Is one method easier to use than the other?
@eyedesyn
@eyedesyn Жыл бұрын
You could use the Plain + Shader Field and load up the shader in point mode but you’d have to make sure you use a high poly mesh. Using a Bump Map allows you to make the waves without worrying about geometry density!

A Reference Node allows you to use the new node system and the C4D Shader. Also, a keyboard shortcut for Solo Node (I use Command+Return) can be really handy. Thank you! This is full of great techniques.
@eyedesyn
@eyedesyn Жыл бұрын
Reference Nodes are HUGE! I just hope that they port over the C4D Shader - otherwise you have to keep digging into multiple materials vs just the one with the old shader system which is why I opted to not use the Reference node route! And I agree with the short cut keys - another awesome benefit of the new node system is the easy solo buttons! Thanks for watching, Don!

EJ: Can you do the same scene without Redshift? Been using C4D since V6 and I have never needed any outside renderer. I only do product renderings for retail buyers. (Besides, I now have free Redshift with R26 but it confuses the heck out of me) PS: Your heat shrink cellophane video and your Object/Mesh Builder video are my go to reference for packaging.
@eyedesyn
@eyedesyn Жыл бұрын
Thanks Bruce glad my tutorials have been helpful! So for this you can use the native renderer since most of the work I did was with the C4D Tile shader. It’ll just be a lot slower to render in physical/ standard
@bbrachman
@bbrachman Жыл бұрын
@@eyedesyn I was told (by Maxon) that R26 Redshift is CPU only. So, it is inherently slow without its normal use of the GPU. I cannot afford to buy Redshift and really have never needed it for product renders. Just good enough for Walmart buyers to see what the product might look like.

Its been a year, has Maxon ported the c4d shader node over yet? Could I create the material for the sand using the new redshift node system?
@laineb123
@laineb123 13 күн бұрын
Hey this might be delayed, but I found out that there is a Distorer node in redshift, which you can drive a tile texture into it and then in the distorter port pipe in a maxon texture then play with the amount!
