Awesome as always !!! Although I was wondering if maybe some more advanced "displacement problem solving" tutorial could be done? Octane has some problems with it, and sometimes it's quite hard to get around it with more complicated objects, even after unwrapping UV's. Would be cool to see something like that. Thanks!

Lukasz, always so demanding! ;) We'll see if David wants to tackle that! :)
@octanejesus
@octanejesus 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah Octane has known displacement issues with more complex models where it comes apart at the seams. The best solution is just some third party software by Phantom, but it's weird and not terribly accessible (render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=55306). Wish OTOY would just fix their shit.

@octanejesus
@octanejesus 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, actually I just learned this yesterday and wish I'd been able to put it in the tutorial. Under the displacement texture, there's an option for "filter type" and choose Gaussian, then set it to 1 or 2. Basically a blur that should smooth out those janky edges!

Anyone have issues with displacement using multiple images together? Unless it's just a single texture piped into the displacement I can't get it to work. (*Great tutorial David) Jumping back into Octane after a few years in redshift and loving it. Just can't get anything to work past a single texture or noise piped into displacement.

Is it because of the renderer which is octane in this case that you don't need a crazy amount of polygons in order to use displacement map? Cause what I know is that in order to use displacement map you need to subdivide your model. The more detailed the map is, the more polygons must be presented in order to use displacement map.
@octanejesus
@octanejesus 6 жыл бұрын
That's true for Physical renderer, but not true for Octane. You can have a single polygon with an 8K displacement map and get all of the detail of that map presented. It's an amazing way to conserve on geometry, which really helps keep the scene sizes low and frees up your VRAM, which is your bottleneck for scene size with GPU rendering (unless you're using out of core geo which overflows to the RAM, but then you lose speed)
@pineapplepen3542

Hello my friends! I am thinking about buying octacen for architecture renderings. But there are also different engines; like corona, V-ray, i-ray, Arnold or thea render. What do you know about these render engines? I have a closer look on Octane, because i got a nice video card from G-Force (980 Ti) and Octance is in contrast to the other engines able to work with the GPU.
@eyedesyn
@eyedesyn 7 жыл бұрын
Not too much! Octane is known as being the easiest to use, but it's all about what you need the renderer to do and what works best for you! Just like why use C4D vs. Max, Maya, etc...

Great tutorial with many useful tips! However, it's been a while since I've searched online for 'Octane Displacement issue' and sure enough I am very disappointed to find that there is still the same problem where the edges of objects break apart when using displacement. You breeze right over this making it seem like a non issue - just like Otoy themselves - or so it seems! In my opinion, it is without doubt the biggest, most fundamental flaw of Octane and prevents it being the best render engine out there. How it wasn't the most important fix in version 3 is baffling to me! Is there any point in creating anything other than mountainous landscapes with Octane displacement? ... not that I can see! If you've got a really complicated object and you dare apply displacement to it, prepare to be disappointed and frustrated! Will they fix it for version 4?? - I sure hope so! Cheers. L.

Is it a problem that McDonalds doesn't serve pizza? A lot of people like pizza! :) Many are working on non-Octane but for David and I, we only are learning and using Octane for now. Plenty of other channels out there that do other renderers but again for now, this channel will have native C4D renderer and Octane. The moment we make a VRay tutorial, someone will say "Hey! Make Redshift!" Then we make a Redshift and people say "Hey, make an Arnold tutorial!" Make Arnold...people say "Hey, what about Octane! Do Octane again!" Can't make everyone happy! :)

I agree with you, and thank you as well, but you must clarify the differences, in all the render can do what you want, but the clarification of the fundamental differences is important, however I will try to apply this lesson in Arnold , and I will show you that thx u

octane + AMD when?
@octanejesus
@octanejesus 7 жыл бұрын
Might not happen at all unfortunately. There were major issues with both Apple switching to Metal and AMD technologies changing (or something?). Last I heard, they're stuck and it's still an NVIDIA only party.

I wouldn't hold my breath for Apple to get their crap together, although maybe in the next Garbage Disposal looking Mac Pro?

You can use displacement maps in the C4D Displacement channel but it won't look nearly as good and wont work nearly as fast as Octane.

Your tutorial is too difficult. I can't get the texture that you prepared in advance at 12:33. You have to tell me where to get it. Without such a link, this is not a tutorial. And your tutorial seems to be too lost.
