There were different lessons was for both sets of ponies. The Ashleigh gang needed to learn that different people are motivated by different things while the Andrea gang needed to learn that stress can affect playstyle, they didn't just randomly get bad at the game.

Oh, this one is EXCELLENT!! I never noticed that Pinkie and Fluttershy never got an episode together; you'd think it'd be such an easy pick! Like, Pinkie plans a loud surprise birthday party for Fluttershy but it sets off a panic attack instead of making her happy, and Pinkie feels awful because her parties ALWAYS make ponies happy- but she has to learn a lesson about how different ponies like different things. So to make up for it, she plans her first-ever "Super Duper Uper Quiet And Gentle NOT-Surprise Party!!!" and tailors a little tea party with the Mane 6 and all of their pets. Fluttershy loves it and tells Pinkie if she can plan a party that even SHE likes, she really is the best party planner of all time.

Are you sure Buckball Season is closer to a Pinkie Pie/Fluttershy storyline than Filli Vanilli? Tabitha Saint Germain and I wanted to pair up Rarity and Minty before, since they might share an affinity for designing socks, but yeah, pairing together Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy sounds like a much better idea than that. I gots a video where I explain why I think My Little Pony: A New Generation's two series will age a lot more poorly than Friendship is Magic after making a special announcement about the girl you may recognize from Turning Red and Never Have I Ever becoming one of the new stars of Tell Your Tale, replacing Liza Koshy. Another recasting of note is Ana Sani to Kimiko Glenn, since Ana Sani was in 4 episodes of Pony Life, 2 episodes of The Boys, and played a main character in The Mysticons who acts and sounds just like Izzy Moonbow. Because Ana Sani and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan are both South Asian, I really hope Tell Your Tale and Make Your Mark gets them noticed for Mira, Royal Detective. April 3, 2022, 2:20pm

Or a map episode that takes place at a circus. One circus pony is pampering the animals to the point where they don't want to preform, while another is so focused on choreographing the greatest trick that they aren't caring for the animals at all. Have Flutters partner with the pamperer at first and Pinkie with the choreographer, then have them convene, then switch with Pinkie trying to get the pampered animals enthusiasm back and Flutters getting the choreographer to realize they're missing the joy of preforming because of how miserable the animals are. There could even be a scene where both look like they're about to succeed, until the two groups of animals collide together and tumble down. The two handlers will think they failed until the ringleader comes, says he saw the commotion and thinks it was the most entertaining thing that's just what the circus needs.

The show spent WAAAY too much time with the whole, "opposite personalities can still work well together" trope with Rarity and AJ, to the point where they became a valid ship in fan's eyes. Hell, they even teased it in the EQG miniseries to the point of it almost being cannon! Although utilized less often, this trope could be said for Rainbow and Rarity's relationship, and, earlier in the series, Twi and Rainbow. But, it could have ALSO worked REALLY well with Pinkie and Fluttershy! The loud, eccentric one paired with the shy and reserved one. Honestly, it could be an episode where Pinkie needs to learn personal boundaries, or (I mean, toned down a lot because children watch it) that possibly something she does triggers Shy's anxiety really easily, and that she may need to learn that there is a time and place for everything. There could be an episode where Pinkie helps Shy negotiate a large or intimidating social situation, and they become closer because of it. Fluttershy could, during one of Pinkies manic depressive states, expose her to animal therapy, and they could essentially bond over how animals help them. They could both hang out and enjoy time with Discord because, while Discord and Pinkie are on similar levels of chaotic and could easily have tons of fun, Fluttershy is the one to bring them back to reality, and they would honestly be a dream team. There were SO MANY missed opportunities with this duo!!!

I love this episode! Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Snails had such badass skills when it came to playing Buck Ball and speaking of Snails it was nice to see him get some character development and grow outside of his shared title of the village idiot with Snips. And don't get me started on the part where Fluttershy snaps at RD and AJ, i know that Fluttershy has had her moments but that particular outburst was intese! But anyway i overall enjoy this episode, it's awesome to discover that Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie have a real talent for a fictional sport!!!

So this episode is the 4th one in Season 6 where certain characters become idiots in order to progress the story. And it's also the 3rd one that had Applejack in this position, no less. With all that in mind, we really have to ask ourselves, "Why does this show hate Applejack?"

maybe i should write a comprehensive buckball rules guide at some point, but my headcanon right now is that the earth ponies aren't supposed to kick each other but as long as it isn't with a dangerous ammount of force and the ref rules it was an accident it's fine, unicorns are only allowed to use telekinesis and have limited areas they can move the basket to prevent them from affecting the game too much outside their role, and what counts as a foul ball? not all games even have foul balls, so i don't know.
