@@elotromundofilms, I disagree. I think that both parties are at fault in this movie. Tom should have known and accepted that this was just a casual, NSA relationship and he should have treated it as such. On the other hand, Summer should have realised that a casual, NSA relationship between the two of them would *never* have worked out. She should have been honest with him from the very beginning and consistent with her beliefs. Showing up at his house and saying "yes" to the relationship was on her, because it was her choice. All she essentially did was waste Tom's time by having him believe that there was a chance (where there was none). Tom should definitely have been more mature about Summer and his relationship that he led with her in the beginning. I hated this movie because there is no one to root for in this movie. All of the characters completely suck and they should all die horribly, grisly deaths.

@Sinochu It's by no means my favourite movie, but there was hardly anything pertinent left in CinemaSins' teardown. Yes, carping is more fun, I know, but it should have at least a certain relevant underpinning. Either they're playing dumb, or they had a bad day. I may give them another chance, but not for much more as obtuse as this one.

I used to empathize so heavily with Joseph's character. Took a long time after getting out of a serious relationship to realize what was actually going on, and realizing why I was mistaken. Alex Meyers did a terrific breakdown of the logic behind the character arcs on his channel

As a teen, I really sympathised with Tom all the way through and loathed Summer a little, but as an adult rewatching the movie it was the other way around. And that's because I used to have the same preconception as the main character, namely that the main character is by default the good guy. I hear that's all by design, which makes this one of my favorite movies.

Just from previews alone I don't see anyone as the 'bad guy'. But to me, from what I've seen it's kind of sad. He just didn't realize that maybe he wasn't the one for her. He went so far as to not ask her what she wanted. Just poor communication on both ends. She was clear on what she wanted with him, but continued the connection anyway. Then he never realized she acted cold and distant at times. And, how odd to be engaged to someone else weeks later. This movie is now added to my watch later list. I'm genuinely interested now.

a lot of people don't like the smith thing when they meet but i like it. summer was just telling him she likes the band he's listening to. id do the same if someone was listening to the beatles. she isn't trying to show off her taste in music, she's just acknowledging something they have in common. but tom reads into it as them having this super niche thing in common when in reality there are SO many people who like the smiths. its yet another thing tom reads too much into and idk i just like it.

My bigger question is why is there a plastic cup completely full of plastic knives when it should be filled with plastic forks? When there's a cake, there should be one knife to cut the cake and many forks for each person having a piece. Why would each person need a plastic knife? Lol
