In Time is a sci-fi movie with a wicked-cool premise... that the movie completely wastes. So many likable people... such a cool idea... ultimately a pretty terrible film. Sad face.
Next Week: Something cultishly-beloved and something animated-but-terrible.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

@Quvoxe
@Quvoxe 5 жыл бұрын
@Tyler Durden that last one actually makes sense. It is shown later in the movie when Will gives people money, they buy guns to protect themselves. So most people in the poorest zone simply don't have guns because they are too poor. They live day by day. The bank thing is probably the same reason, you probably need a certain amount of time to make sense to open a bank account. If you live by the day you can't afford having to run to the bank every 2 minutes. Because time is literal money, only people with time can afford to go to a bank, because that takes time. The banks probably also charge you for stuff. The minute men says it at the end. The systems is built so the poor don't get as much time, because a lot must die so a few can live forever. It makes sense there isn't infinite space. They let the minute men do their thing because then more people die. They don't want poor people to use a bank or own guns. So they make them expensive.

I would imagine that this world would suffer a lot from skin cancer, cause even if you stop this "age gene" their would still be other factors that would still cause old age like gravity and solar radiation, especially the later so most of these century old people would need to have their skin completely replaced due to the amount of radiation exposure and the cancer moles that would definitely no make them 25 years old.

@mickey2347
@mickey2347 4 жыл бұрын
When Will is arrested, they took away all of his time (1000yrs) and left him with exactly two hours. The cop that does this says “Just enough time for processing.” There’s also mentions throughout the movie of them definitely being executed if caught, and saying “You don’t want me to run out of time before you can take, do you?” That being said, they also earned a days worth of time at the factory, and we all know about prisoners having jobs and making 17c on the hour. So who knows. They’d probably slave labor it up with regular prisoners.

Ok, time is obviously all electronical, so why did no one think to make a device to counterfeit time? Like, forget stealing it. Anybody with enough hardware, and programming knowledge can just create their own time. And I'm guessing that's the only way time goes into circulation, cause I am pretty sure it's never explained how anybody creates more time seeing as how every second YEARS are probably taken out of the system. Wouldn't that mean that everyone is just doomed to die once all the time in circulation is used up?

@@hcw199 I agree, but I could suspend my disbelief, if they at least made it a little believable. In reality, society would collapse if your currency was literally time, people wouldn't walk around being this calm. However, they don't explain the technology, they don't explain why the MC can do the things he does, he acts like a trained soldier, gambler and street thug. I liked this movie, until he decided to go to Greenwhich, and found myself skipping around later, because I was hoping for some explanations.

So they will meet 45 min later as both of them are now walking towards each other. It means they meet 1h15 after that the mother could not get into the bus and she still has 15 min left at this stage.

One thing that always bothered me in the movie is Olivia Wilde and Justin Timberlake's relationship. I first saw this movie I was kind of oblivious about attraction and all that stuff but I just felt like they did not seem like a mother and son. Watching it again a bit older made me realized what was wrong ... They have STRONG CHEMISTRY! They look like a couple! He has more chemistry with Olivia Wilde than with Amanda Seyfried. The way she looks at him is definitely not the way a mother looks at her son, that is just too weird for them to be mother and son. I watched this movie maybe four times and seeing them again on this video is giving me the same impression, there is way too much chemistry between them. Besides that, the movie had so much potential but was so badly executed. I watched it multiple times and still the same ... Too bad.

Plenty of them don't even have severe disabilities either, and autistic children are one of the most murdered. If the child was disabled, especially if it's something vilified like autism, then the murders get sympathy from the media and little to no jail time. It's fucked.

Negan's LeatherJacket But he's physically young, and even mentally he's not that old since he hasn't met enough people to have a lot of social experiences. I don't see the big deals with huge age differences in fantasy/sci-fi, where the people are physically close to the same age. Unless it's explicitely said that the older one has had enough life experiences to be too mature for the young (and usually bratty) one, I see no problem. Just because the age is so far apart... ? Age is but a number. The people's minds and personalities matter a lot more.
@Arbron
@Arbron 5 жыл бұрын
All of this "moral categorization" is artificial. Let's say an adult man had a relationship with a girl who looked 15-16 but was actually an adult herself. In terms of age difference it's all legal and above board, but there will be those out there who will say "he was attracted to someone who looks underage, that's worth scorn on its own!" Did he *know* she was older than she looked? And was his attraction more psychological than physical (i.e. was the priority his attraction to a physical child, or a mental adult)? And does that even matter since the law only accounts for age and not the *appearance* of age? Morality doesn't exist in nature. It has no objective definition. These "does it technically count as..." questions are meaningless and unanwerable because we're debating things with meanings that are entirely artificial. Same as if you fap to what looks like a woman and then it turns out (after the fact) that it's a trap. Does this mean you're attracted to guys because essentially you just fapped to one? No, because your perception and intent were skewed. Your focus was on what appeared to be a woman. But if we ignore context and focus solely on the blunt technicality, then yes, you are attracted to guys. You just fapped to one! Does anyone actually think that kind of "conundrum" merits serious debate though? I don't. Hence my point about this being arbitrary.

If it’s a 2 hour walk and she has 1:30, a jog could easily shave off some minutes (ignoring the issue of what to do with the 8 hours of sleep problem I highlighted earlier) Another sin : Does this bus only make one stop? Couldn’t she pay for a stop closer to home and run, literally like her life depended on it, for the rest I love the concept of paying with time but if my life depended on it, I’m fairly sure I could have found a way to handle this better than taking a calm stroll to the gallows like this irrelevant-to-the-plot-other-than-being-bambis-mum cliche

@Jade Mack Well it's not like survival is easy and you're not greatly increasing your odds at a premature death if you run out of the money you or someone else makes from a time clock. The allegory isn't dead on to contemporary life, but it's not far off, particularly for certain classes. Most people on the planet are indeed working in some capacity to stay alive (earn more minutes), many attached to a time clock. And while some manage to make it when they can no longer exchange their time or services for currency (by savings or tapping into someone else's bank), many do not.

I tangentially knew Vinny K. (Phillipe) during the time this movie came out and I remember he was less than thrilled with how it turned out. He's a really down-to-earth kinda guy and he was more concerned with me spending $8 to see a movie he knew wasn't great than he was with protecting his ego. Here's hoping he gets bigger roles in better productions in years to come.
