Before Spider-Man 3, Green Lantern, or most of the modern "bad" superhero films... there was Fantastic Four. And its badness still holds up well to this day. We went looking for sins, and yeah... it took a while.
Next week: Sequel sins & 90's throwback sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins do YOU want to see recounted?

@WilliamMcFarlandVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Silver Surfer is better than the fist in the duology but still bad, while ... Fant4stic is .... different, kinda like apples and oranges ... but ... actually has more character development, objectively, because they don't get their powers 10 minutes in. It straddles the line of serious and ridiculous so it fails, while this older one just embraces the ridiculous ... case in point, 4stic gave a real life anchoring to the phrase "clobering time" instead of just saying fuck it and making it ridiculous like as in the comics ... still this was following the trend of movies like Dark Knight taking campiness and going serious ... so I like the first 1/3 of 4stic enough to say its better than this 100% pile of garbage ... but end of the day, a superhero team-up in which everyone gets different powers from a single event is just not going to work in a movie today ... independent origin stories for team-ups is the way of the future and every Fantastic Four movie has been a waste of money and a waste of countless of hours of work and viewing

On the nurse not telling Johnny about his temperature, she probably just thought that there were something wrong with the thermometer since if an ordinary person had a temperature of 200 degrees, they would be beyond dead. Hell, they'd be dead by the time you get to 120, or at least have severe brain damage. So it makes sense that she doesn't tell him about what seems to be an inaccurate reading.

Technically, Sue's ability to turn invisible is directly related to her ability to create Force Fields. She basically uses a force field to bend light around her so that the light cannot intersect with her body, thus rendering her invisible because no light is hitting her, after all you can only see something so long as there is light on it, i know that is confusing but thats how her Invisibility works, she prevents light from interacting with her, thus rendering her invisible and uses her Force Fields to do that. If I remember the explanation correctly that is.

Considering the time this movie was made, I actually found it to be a good movie. Sure, the plot has holes, but I honestly saw it as a kid's super hero movie. Plus, I really liked the cast. Reid is a stick, Susan and Johhny are both on the lighter side as well- you want to say those 3 together make up nearly 1,000 pounds? Or that the makers weren't paying attention to proper weight? That's a good theory - they've often used a variant of it in the comics. Plus, there were a couple of times they suggested that their powers reflect their personalities, ie Ben grew up in a tough neighbourhood where he was always trying to be the toughest, scariest guy on the block, so technically it's his own fault he turned into a rock monster.

I'll do an extra sin: 4,000 K is not the temperature of the sun. First: You can't really say "THE" temperature, since they're a lot of different temperatures inside and even outside the exact surface of the sun. Second: And even the lowest temperature of the sun, the surface temperature, is not around 4,000 but more around 6,000, exactly 5,778 K. And don't let me get started on that "supernova" shit in the movie...
@TheEagle2111
@TheEagle2111 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that shit really annoyed me in the movie, was it really to hard for them to change it to 6000K and say "your as hot as the surface of the sun". Also fucking supernova, like seriously, out of all the things to choose, a fucking cosmic phenomenon that has enough power to rip apart small galaxies and create black holes.

see, here's why I think the reboots worse: It has ALL the same problems as the original FF movies but somehow it's even MORE boring. with all the problems of the Jessica Alba films, at LEAST they're bright and colorful, at LEAST it has a lighthearted tone, at LEAST it plays for laughs but doesn't shy away from seriousness. That is very much the attitude of the fantastic four. the new movie takes itself WAY too seriously. all the coloring has next to no saturation (aside from the neon green goop that Doom falls into), all the heroes ever do is brood and argue and sit around depressed and angsty when they SHOULD USE THEIR POWERS TO HELP PEOPLE, and ultimately much like these Alba films all the films about is a bunch of jackasses who get superpowers due to their own stupid mistakes, spend all of their time moaning about how hard their lives are and THEN at the end of the day they clean up their OWN DAMN MESS. So yes, all the same problems as these Alba films, but take away the color and lighthearted comedy for bleakness and god awfully slow pacing for a 2 hour snoozefest.

Movies are generally made for everybody to justify costs, MvC is a game that while anyone can enjoy, accuracy to Doom's character is a significantly reduced factor to that point. And while I don't even know if the game was made in-house or not, I'm willing to bet the people who made it were a lot more passionate about the source material than the guys that made this thing.

I watched a video where the KZbinr suggested that if a new fantastic four is made, is to have Victor Von Doom in it... but just as Von Doom. Than in the second or third movie, show Von Doom transformation into Doctor Doom. It does make a lot of sense, as Von Doom is such a complex character and having him be the villain in the first movie is just too rushed.

This is hilarious but I would have to argue in Sue's defense. When she contained Johnny's Supernova she does it not just to protect herself but the people that would ultimately be destroyed. Basically Johnny's Supernova would have destroyed most of the planet had she not surrounded it. The issue is the same as that on the bridge when her powers first manifested because she was protecting others. And one trait that the Invisible Woman has demonstrated throughout the comics is her willingness to protect others. So, that's maybe the reason she couldn't hold herself against Dooms electric strike because it was targeting her and her only. So, one could say that the reason she couldn't hold Dooms strike was a lack of mental strength not physical. She had the power to stop it but the reason behind it wasn't great enough

You know, this movie was bad, but at least it didn't have a Reed Richards who looks like a 20-year-old, a Johnny Storm who's reduced to being a token black guy, a Thing played by BILLY FREAKIN' ELLIOT, or a Doctor Doom played by that gay guy from The Sorcerer's Apprentice. No seriously (I didn't know those new cast informations), what is this new trend of 'blacking' the characters? Nick Fury (first in the comic), Kingpin, Alicia (Ben Grimm's girlfriend) and Electro in the movies. Green Lantern and Aqualad in the animations... *WAIT!* I know what are you gonna say about the last two and I have a looooong nerd answer, so talk about it at your own risk. And I have some suspect about the animated Lex Luthor too... he's not black, but kind-ish. Anyway! When somebody whine about a bad/weird/pointless adaptation everybody agree, EXCEPT if they talks about black or dead people. Because everybody is scared about what the Others can say (and that's the ONLY case on the net, because usually people answer 'I don't care what you think'). So *let me be honest and try to do the same* for once, ok? Why? If they want to add some black dudes in the stories (for 'oh, my God, we are not racist at all, see?' reasons), why they just don't create some new black guys, instead of steal the place of already existing ones? ***** My cousins are mixed, and I know plenty of other mixed folks. Trust me, half-black, half-white people can look white, black, somewhere in between, or just a difference race altogether. Take President Barack Obama for example: if nobody mentioned that President Obama was half-white, everybody would think he was just black (probably helps that he seems to identify as just black instead of mixed). Genetics is funny like that. BETMARKonTube The "blackening" of characters is just that comic book authors decided they want to be more inclusive and thought it strange with all these light skinned motherfuckers walking with the people of color sitting in the background. I don't see why it would bother you one way or the other. There is already a precedent in comic books for there to be multiple versions of characters, characters wearing other characters' costumes, and/or otherwise taking a previous established character's name. Happens all the time, especially with the reboots and stuff. Why does it matter when one of the thing they change is the race or sex of the character? For example, you had four white Green Lanterns. That is three characters who share nothing in common with the original Green Lantern except the name and ring. People don't whine about them, so why do you complain about John Stewart, the fourth Green Lantern? Nick Fury was turned black because one of the artists (or whatever) thought Samuel L. Jackson was cool and wanted to pay homage to him. Truth be told, the only reason Ultimate Nick Fury seeped back into the non-Ultimate Marvel universe is because Avengers is really popular, and Marvel wants to draw in that crowd by using Samuel L. Fury's iconic mug. For the reason why they used the Ultimate version of Nick Fury, it is because Marvel signed a contract a while ago with SLJ that said he would portray Nick Fury in any movie in exchange for SLJ not suing them for his using likeness without his permission. Why do comic book authors and people who adapt these characters change the race of characters from time to time and not use pre-existing characters? Easy. A lot of pre-existing PoC characters iconic enough. Plus, it is a lose-lose situation; people who whine about writers creating PoC versions of the heroes will also whine if you use an existing PoC character (for example, you whining about John Stewart). Though, I was kind of sad that some of the more well-known and popular black comic book heroes like Black Panther wasn't included in the Avengers movie. I haven't seen the latest X-Men movie, but the others severely underutilized Storm (also, miscasted her horribly). It'd be cool if some Milestone Comics characters got some movies of their own. Not likely to happen since, other than Static, they don't have enough name recognition to draw a movie audience like Batman or Superman.

GrizzlyCowify Oh yeah! A smart one. (serious) First of all, I whine about EVERITHING different. They say "it's a reboot", "it's an adaptation", "it's an another universe"... screw them! I have nothing against change something for the sake of the time the new version is made. If you don't want to make a movie set in the '70 you have 2 choices: show the hero as an old man, or a reboot. That's fine. But I whine when they switch the race, the sex, the whatever! "hey, that's an another universe, it's a reboot. What's the big deal if Fury is black?" So why not a Na-vi, or an eFFing Autobot? I think they would have something to complain in that case and I could answer the same way they answered me. But back to us. Since you proved to be a person who knows what he's talking about I will explain my boring point :) About Nick Fury. Nope, I see the first 'dark skinned' one (I'm not sure about the race) years before Samuel Motherfuckin Jackson. He still had his striped hairstyle. Then, after the movie version, Samuel Jackson himself wanted that the comics version was based on him. (this last one is a rumor, but I think is more than possible) And about the Lanterns. I have to admit that thing been objectively distorted from my point of view, because in my country I saw the tv serie *The Batman* before the Justice League, so I thought the original cast was the one in Batman. In those last episodes there was Hawkman and Hal Jordan, instead of Hawkgirl and John. So I thought: "of course. Because no black and no girl is not a real team." I was wrong, but I think the concept is the same. If we are all alike and race doesn't metter... why not Hal? He was the real first Green Lantern. And belive me, if the first G.L. was John and they switched for any other Lantern I would be pissed the same way. The thing is that I'm so much not racist that I'm pissed by the hypocrisy of the people who feel the need to add a black character in any single group since the '70! And usually he's the nerd, the smart one. (John is not the case) We are all the same, but until people will *force* black characters where they're not needed, they will keep the idea that those are *a race*. "See? We changed Fury with an african-american. Because we're not racist and we don't care if he's black." So, why did you do that? If it's the *same* why did you changed his race? Why not a native? Because we've already stopped to fight with the native's feelings. Because they stopped to whine about the past and because the native *knows* that nobody will never discriminate them anymore. Au contraire, people feel guilty with them. So we don't need to put natives in roles that used to be for white, black, chinese, whatever people. Anyway, back to the topic: for Green lantern I was wrong, but not for Aqualad. The original was Garth and he was white (once again), then they added (in the comic) an afro one, Kaldur'ahm. Both was ok for me and in the tv-serie Young Justice I just *loved* that character. He was so calm and smart. He's voice was great and they cut of that dicutible afro style. I almost forgot that I usually prefere the original one, when... in an episode he meet Garth and they teased me with a joke like (I don't remember it) "Have you ever thought if it was you the one chosed to be Aqualad?" "Not for a second" "Me neither" "hahahaha" -__-) I did. Anyway, I really liked him, so I can forgive him for this low punch. (just for this time) And to end this megapost: yes dammit! I know, right? There are a LOT of other *existing* black characters out there and (as I said) they can even create as many new as they want. Use them! And you don't have to fit just one for group/team/movie. Feel free to chose any kind of race like there are *no races!* And soon or later the russian characters will stop to talk with a strong accent just to clarify they are russian (yes, I'm talking to you Natasha! Super spy with all the skills for infiltration except to impress someone who's not russian). And a french character who can speak english without use a french word in every sentence (because he's french and you must know it). ...I was joking about the last 2, but still is a thing who make you think ;) -BETMARK-

+BETMARKonTube The reason why they adapt characters who are pre-established as white into people of colour, is that the roster of heroes who are not white don't get nearly as much exposure as the white characters. There is (unfortunately) more demand for popular figures such as Spiderman or Captain America, than Black Panther or Falcon. So to compensate for the racial imbalance in the roster of more widely popular characters, they decide to diversify it. The same goes for changing characters' gender, or sexual orientation. I myself think that the film and comic industries are creatively bankrupt what with endless reboots, sequels/prequels and adaptations, rather than producing and/or showcasing new content. I believe that it is far better to create lots of new characters that more widely represent society and the world at large than to repeat the same stuff, but with minor changes. But for the time being, making alterations to canon in order to have more representation is still a good thing to have in the meanwhile, before we get to throw all the "Troy from Marketing" types (who are relentlessly afraid of anything original or daring being made) out from their office windows.

@MixedNutsProductions

That's not correct professional filmmaking/video/television terminology. A pan is always referred to the horizontal plane where tilt is the vertical plane. Changing "magnification" doesn't even make sense. If you mean changing focal length, that has nothing to do with panning or tilting. For a series that makes it on nitpicking every detail of "sins" from a movie, it should get the terminology correct. www.videomaker.com/article/14221-camera-movement-techniques-tilt-pan-zoom-pedestal-dolly-and-truck

Xerothor There is no half right. On professional film sets and television productions, the term panning is used for the horizontal plane where tilting is for the vertical. It is standard knowledge amongst any professional. Saying "pan up" is incorrect terminology and a dead giveaway of an amateur. The main point at hand is this series is all about nitpicking the tiniest, even arguably petty details, but on multiple occasions have used incorrect terminology.

Honestly, I don't know why people hate on FF and FF:ROTSS when we all know the reboot is the rubbish pile of the franchise. Seriously... Johnny Storm is black, Sue Storm is adopted, the cast being too young, and Dr. Doom (who's name isn't even Victor Von Doom) is reduced to being an angry blogger? Nothing screams "Super Villain" like an Internet Troll. Btw, I'm not trolling... I'm just making a point.

Jason Carson yeah, and everyone knows the quality of a movie is directly correlated with how much it follows the source material and has nothing to do with the directing, acting, writing, etc... quit fanboying and think about it objectively. both FF movies were shit. i thought they were cool as a kid, but after watching them both recently, it was obvious how terrible they were. it was a cliche orgy under a blanket of shitty directing and casting. the reboot is undoubtedly a better MOVIE, regardless of source material accuracy.

sh0rtaznant Then consider me "the doubted", because I don't see the reboot as being better... and that's thinking about it "objectively" as you put it. I watch a movie to get lost in the world being set before me, I'm not a cynical asshole who has to find something wrong with just about everything. Jason Carson well like i said, it was a kid when i watched it, so that's why i paid money... and i never said i rewatched it with the mindset "ok fuck this movie." i wanted to see what it was like after all these years, and that's when i noticed it was horseshit. i like movies a lot and can easily be entertained by crappy movies, but this franchise was just SO bad. you have to be a real fanboy or have really low standards to not be annoyed by a movie with cliches every 3 minutes. it doesnt make someone a "cynical asshole" to have standards. like seriously, after every scene, i thought "wow that was terrible." most people today would have that reaction too. and no, those movies didn't "make sense." you just don't pay attention to detail if they made any sense to you because so much of it was SO bad that it DIDNT make sense. this youtube video points out all the shit that didn't make sense. just off the top of my mind: when doom get his powers and goes to take revenge, the lights in the parking garage flicker as one of the company board members tries to open his car. his immediate reaction is to suspiciously wander around looking for the cause of the flickering lights? wtf. no one does that. then he sees a dark figure in the distance and immediately recognizes it's doom. he acts all frightened by doom and immediately does a 180 by talking shit to him. wtf? then doom blasts a HOLE in his chest with electricity? yeah, makes sense. and that's just one nonsensical scene out of many..

People are still flipping out about Human Torch being changed to a black guy? Is it because people are racist or because they'd rather not see their favorite childhood characters changed? The only valid argument I see when this topic comes up is that it would be better if Marvel made new [ethnic] characters rather than changing existing ones. You know what I say to that? Great fucking idea and I'm not being sarcastic. That would be fantastic. You know what the problem is though? This isn't the 60's, 70's, 80's, or early 90's. The characters we're getting movies for are characters that are popular and worth having movies being made for thanks to decades of exposure. It's not that easy to just create a new character and bank on it. Look at Hancock. Not the best movie but a decent concept. Something like that fails, we never see it again. Something like Spiderman fails, just reboot it. The fanbase is still there. It makes much more sense from a business standpoint to just change the ethnicity of your characters than make a new one. On that note though, why does it even matter? For someone like Bruce Wayne I could understand. It's a little difficult to explain away how black kid would be raised in such a wealthy family during that particular period but Human Torch? For the most part he's just a dude who was in the right place at the right time. You can just as easily explain the family relation with Sue Storm with adoption. It's really not that big a deal. They've been rehashing origin stories for decades, why is it such a problem now? Oh right, because he's black.
@JasonICECarson
@JasonICECarson 9 жыл бұрын
If that's the case, then maybe Hollywood should cast a white actor for the role of Black Panther if you're ok with drastic change? Johnny Storm/Human Torch is an iconic character. We know he's white because of how the creators of the FF drew the character in the comic books. I could understand if they were using the Ultimates version of FF, but as I recall, the Ultimates version of Johnny Storm/Human Torch is still white. It's about staying close to the source material your character(s) is/are based off of... that being said, I'm not even really flipping out over black Torch. The villain in the reboot is nothing but an angry blogger. Serious shit is going down in the reboot thanks to the villain being an internet troll!

If they want to explain away how a white dude is the king of an African village full of black people, and it make sense, fine. Where's all the anger about Nick Fury? Because it's that way in the [ultimate] comics? Is that all it takes to satisfy people? Because writers and artists have done tons of things in comics that have pissed people off. All this boils down to is what you, as an individual prefers, and you trying to justify it however possible. The "source material" changes all the fucking time but is it really that big a deal? They took liberties with the TASM movies. They took liberties with Iron Man. They took liberties with the Chitauri in Avengers. They took liberties with Ultron. No one seems to care about that. Why the anger about this?

@MrCaseySasaki
@MrCaseySasaki 9 жыл бұрын
Having Mole Man as the first villain would most likely involve ACTUAL adventure. And we can't have that in our Fantastic Four Movie. Nope, just stay in New York the whole fucking time like this is some kind of shitty sitcom with superpowers. The most interesting element of any Fantastic Four story for me involves them exploring some kind of unknown. And that unknown is usually a place we've never seen before. For some reason the movies are all about the superpowers and ONE boring urban location. How many FF movies need to be made before they do anything remotely interesting? Like, say, traveling to other universes or dimensions? I'm calling it now, the reboot will take place entirely on Earth and we'll be lucky to leave the United States at all.

Casey Sasaki With the reboot on the way, I can only pray they involve Galactus and actually make it Galactus. I don't care if they thought his costume is cheesy, it's GALACTUS. The most powerful villain in the Marvel Universe. He EATS PLANETS. I think that supersedes the outfit in terms of good villains for a FF reboot. But I think in terms of reboots we have about as much chance of that as getting a good Hulk movie with Fin Fang Foom. Awesome villain, but Hollywood would ruin it in some way.
@MrCaseySasaki
@MrCaseySasaki 9 жыл бұрын
David Coyle Both villains (Galactus and Fang Foom) can work right away for a reboot if the FF left Earth (say, in some kind of teleportation accident) and encountered them elsewhere. I'd personally start with Fang Foom and save Galactus for a third movie. Don't want to blow your load to soon and not be able to top it for a sequel. Galactus should be handled like Thanos in the cinematic universe. LOTS of buildup before he actually shows. I know the original stories concerned Earth, but I'm so tired of the 'Earth is in danger' bullshit. It's played out, and the FF should be BIGGER than that. They can always come back later after their badass adventures in space. Imagine a team of ordinary humans disappearing for decades at a time, only to return as this badass team of super-powered adventures with knowledge of alien species and such. Come on, don't tell me that doesn't sound exciting. Seriously, no more Earth! Let's do something else. There's so much you can do with a family of adventurers lost in space, or another dimension, or whatever. Entire universes of possibility were opened by the comics. We're three FF movies in and we're STILL ON EARTH!

Casey Sasaki I'm hoping the upcoming Venom movie doesn't play out like Spiderman 3. From what I understand, Parker got the black suit from another dimension and used it for quite some time before it moved on to Eddie Brock. It would also be interesting if they worked in Cletus Kasady/Carnage or Brock's battle with cancer since Venom is the focus of the film.

David Coyle I just saw the FF reboot trailer and it looks like they travel to another dimension where they get their powers so...hey, I'm happy. On the Venom thing, yeah, the cancer angle would be an easy way to garner audience sympathy toward Brock. Unless they're going for a straight up VILLAIN as the main character. Which would be interesting if they pulled it off. Carnage is perfect for a standalone Venom movie. He's the absolute simplest way I could think of to create a BAD VS WORSE story structure. And since they're both symbiotes, it's not like it would be difficult to write him in. If they turn Venom into a toothless good guy though, like they did with Godzilla, I won't even bother with it.
