According to Apple all ProRes422-variants use Chroma subsampling of 4:2:2 at 10 Bit Color depth. But will be interesting to see if this holds for the new iphone 13 Pro as well.

You actually raise a very good point, I forgot there’s no ProRes 420 variant. In which case, let’s hope you’re right then and thanks for that correction!

I think people are going to be surprised at how fast their 1 TB phone fills up while they're shooting ProRes video.

Can we shoot in 4K with Cinematic mode? Also can we shoot a video in Pro res or Cinematic mode with Dolby Vision (HDR) ?

As an owner of the a7siii I couldn’t tell that much of a difference between 4K & 1080p on small devices will that be the same thing for the iPhone pro max 128gb?

Really depends on what you're doing! I still upload most of my videos in 1080p and it really only becomes obvious when viewing it on large 4K TV's. If you're creating content to be consumed on smaller screens, it shouldn't matter too much.

I’d definitely recommend the 256gb or 512gb if you’re planning to shoot a lot of video!

Is prores available only in video mode or also in cinematic mode? No 24 or 25 fps in cinematic mode? Thanks

Only normal video mode at this point - 1080p 30/60 or 4K 30p. But if you use an app like FiLMiC, you can set the frame rate to 24 or 25 thankfully!

Filmic pro log mode Vs prores..... wondering what's the difference??

A little bit different, I might do a video on this down the line. But effectively, Filmic Log is colour profile that allows you to get the most dynamic range from your camera sensor. But the quality of the file and how much information it has is still limited. ProRes is a bigger file with more information but nothing to do with the colour profile. So ideally you would shoot Filmic Log in ProRes and that would give you the best results for later editing!

Is pro res 4K worth it I don’t really shot a lot of video but kinda wanna see what it’s about ?

Unless you’re working on a production where image fidelity is really important, it probably won’t make much of a difference for most projects. The final image should still look the same if you’re not planning to do any adjusts to colour or brightness.

Cinematic Mode is limited to 1080 30fps at the moment, but in Dolby HDR.

I’ve heard one KZbinr say you can’t use ProRes AND Cinematic Mode simultaneously. Which kinda sucks if true. Anyone know?

My understanding is that while not fully confirmed just yet, they implied in the event it was one or the other.

So I've got the 13 Pro Max in my hands and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to enable ProRes shooting. Any ideas?

Sadly it’s not available yet! Apple has said a software update is coming later in the year.

Cinematic mode video is limited 1080p for all storage capacities. ProRes video is limited to 1080p for 128GB storage and 4K for 256GB and more.
