Follow up on my summary of Delay Offset solutions for Cinematic Studio Strings. I think track offsets are much more commonplace now. Here is how I generally tackle the issue in my workflow.

Nice to see you are back. what i do is we have a tool in reaper called the Zoom tool, it does not come with Reaper, someone made this extra. I can zoom in infinitely. So i make a whole note drag it to the first of the track , render to audio, zoom in and set the snap to grid off, then i lay the cursor where the audio starts and i can get the exact offset in milliseconds. Also CSS had info about offset times in the pdf file that came with the update. not sure if you saw that.

Yup! Great to be back. Took a long break! For libraries that aren't in the list, I do that too, bounce and look is a super reliable method (assuming the manufacture made the offsets consistent for each note!) Yup CSS is one of the first companies to actually document their offsets for easy use, which is why I love them so much!

This is what I LOVE about Modern Scoring Strings and Modern Scoring Brass; the look-ahead feature. It basically negates any need to deal with track delays. Still stuck with it for CSW, but hopefully AudioBro will soon complete their orchestra with winds and be done with it.

AudioBro has lookahead mode? did not know this. Tokyo Scoring strings also has the lookahead mode. I do not use Easy Articulation mode with Tokyo Strings tho. I only know one person that uses Modern Scoring strings. they are really amazing sounding, you're the second person i've ever seen mention them in almost 1 year now.

@@maplefoxx6285 Modern Scoring Strings, in my opinion, is the best workhouse string library on the market right now. I also own Cinematic Studio Strings, Spitfire Chamber Strings, Afflatus, and Berlin Strings... Hands down, Modern Scoring Strings any day of the week. A lot of people seem to love Cinematic Studio Strings, but other than the legato, I find it very vanilla and basic. It only has the bare minimum articulations for longs (basically arco and a fake Con Sord), and has a fairly industrial sound. Modern Scoring Strings has basic and exotic longs with full legato support - Arco, Con Sordino, Sul Tasto, and Sul Pont. Full divisi sections, with the ability for polyphonic legato. All your standard short articulations. the really great Look-ahead feature. Individual solo instruments that actually sound really good (never was a fan of Cinematic Studio Solo Strings), tons of settings to get the correct legato type based on slider, velocity, or whatever you want to set it at. That just touches the surface of what it offers. Of all the string libraries I own, MSS is the standard bread and butter across the template. Afflatus is my flavor library. I think the reason MSS isn't as well known is just that AudioBro didn't do a good job at marketing it, and it was around $1,000 or something crazy at release. It was worth it, but few wanted to pay that for it.

Interesting! Does that cause latency then from within the plugin? that would be the only way for it to work I imagine. But yeah, I think that's a great idea that plugin manufacturers should incorporate into their libraries. Ideally everything hard quantized would be perfectly in time. That way we can actually play with stuff being humanized and it will all be predictable and natural

Same don't hear about MSS/MSB much, but they sound and look like amazing libraries
@landonp629

@@DIDCHOI It appears to do that, yes. If you turn on lookahead and attempt to play in something with the keyboard, the latency becomes basically unusable.

Glad it helps! Ultimately ends up being a combination approach, but it works best for me!

Ace video! I personally prefer region delays rather than nudging notes so that the notation/score editor remains legible. I didn't realise you could nudge notes in ms as well as ticks, though - that'll be a great time saver for notes at the start of legato phrases, thanks!

Yup. For exporting MIDI, I often use a different session anyways, but for sure. Just the region delays, if possible, would work better for those purposes.

What happens when you have rubato music with a moving tempo? For instance, strings and piano, where the tempo is moving drastically... having a consistent offset in ms seems more useful.

Oh yeah, in that situation using a track offset or a nudge would be more valid for sure! I think I'd probably just nudge the whole region one everything is programmed just right cause I do hate the delay in pressing play personally! Though if it's within 10bpm, I don't think it'd be that noticable. If it's a large tempo jump, I'd be splitting the region anyways. so case by case based on how much the tempo moves
