Scarecrow was the perfect secondary villain for this movie. Batman blames his childhood fears for the death of his parents. He seeks out a way to turn fear against criminals. But it's only after he confronts his deepest fears that he can prevail. By the time Batman had his final showdown with Ra's al Ghul, he wasn't afraid of anything. And that's why he prevailed.

I love that scene where The Scarecrow's like, "Dr. Crane isn't at the phone right now". 😂 On a serious note, scenes like that give us a reason as to why he's not affected by the gas he dispersed throughout the city. It's because like Batman, The Scarecrow's not really afraid of anything. And, The Scarecrow likes to use his fear to his advantage but for all the wrong reasons.

except for the fact the Batman will always go out of his way to save any person’s life, with the only exception being if doing so would endanger another life that he places more importance on. For example, if saving Ra's al Ghul would’ve resulted in the immediate death of some number of innocent (or at least more innocent) people, then Bruce wouldn’t save him. But if there is no reason to assume that people would die as a direct and immediate result of him being saved Bruce would save him. Batman SPECIFICALLY hates death.

I love this movie. Great job with this video but you forgot one major win. When Bruce defeats Ra's in the train he reiterates his line to him. "You never learned to mind your surroundings." Yes, it was another repeat of a line from earlier in the film, but the delivery of the line in that moment was simply excellent. His voice seemed to choke up a bit, deeply saddened that his mentor and a man who had become a father figure to him earlier in the movie was going to die in seconds. The fact that the decisions Ra's had made to potentially destroy Gotham could not enable Batman to save him. Christian Bale simply does not get enough credit for playing Bruce Wayne and Batman. When Affleck shows me some actual substance, I might entertain that he is at least on par with Bale in this role.

5:18 THANK YOU ! This is exactly why the "shaky blurry cam" was used. It is not meant to be an epic fight scene with slow mo and stupid effects with over dramatic punches and kicks, it's meant to show how Batman uses fear, confusion, and illusion to get a great advantage fighting groups of bad guys in a realistic way. This portrays perfectly how the baddies are experiencing him, almost like a shadow coming out of nowhere with a vague dark shape. Something more than just a man. Meanwhile, crapfleck runs around in his overdimensioned bdsm ironman suit with no regard to proper physics, while the bad guys all willingly wait their turn to get hammered.. I'm so in love with this movie. There are so many mirrorings and layers to this film which become apparent after repeated viewings. Begins' structure is a beat for beat play of The Hero's Journey as explicated by Joseph Campbell. Bruce loses his father with the words, 'Don't be afraid'. Ra's becomes Bruce's new father figure, and passes with that same line. The major theme of fear ties together with the character's development, where a childhood fear is harnessed and mastered by the adult. So the theme of the movie itself is the driver of the character arc as well as the premise of the plot. That's a triple win. The transitions between past and present are written and edited so as to be perfectly seamless. I can't think of another movie where the flashback sequences are so naturally blended into the story.

Bat Begins deals with Bruce overcoming fear and turning that fear against his enemies. Dark Knight finds an opponent entirely immune to his tricks and intimidation with no clear motive. Everything he learned in Begins is made irrelevant and he has to learn a new way to fight pure evil and the embodiment of chaos. DK Rises deals with Bruce having lost all fear of death and having to find it again to climb out of a literal and figurative hole to once again do the impossible and return to defeat his strongest opponent yet, with a little help from a nice lady who doesn't share his code against using guns on an opponent. All in all the trilogy is very well bookended.

What? No win for "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you"?? That's, like, one of my favorite lines from this movie.

one of the best movies ever made...i almost forgot i was watching a movie about a comic book hero because it was so well crafted as a movie...and, you actually thought that someone could become this person because of how realistically centered it was...

There is a nice throwback in the first scenes where the guy proclaims himself as 'the devil', and after the fighting scene Ra's al Ghul shows up. Ra's al Ghul can translate to 'demon's/devil's head' in Arabic, so it is interesting that he shows after the fight scene.

You know what’s interesting to notice? In this first version of the Bale Batman voice, he sounds like he’s trying to be more whispery and raspy, as opposed to the later versions of the Bale Batman voice which seems like an attempt to sound more gruff with extra rasp. Like there’s two different forms of intimidation that these two versions are going for, and I kinda like the first one more, it sounds more reserved, like he’s talking that way because he’s close to you, and you don’t need to know who they are, like an actual attempt at hiding their voice. Meanwhile the more that he goes on, he has to start grunt yelling like he’s trying out for a death metal band as a means to be intimidating sounding from all measures of distance

So, Bale has told a story about how uncomfortable and overheating this Batsuit was, even to the point that it gave him headaches, and he used that feeling to color this voice. The Dark Knight suit was a lot more comfortable and caused him no headaches.

It's amazing how researching this film how emotional Bruce and Gordon's first meeting made me, how in the last film, Gordon reassuring Bruce has endured until the moment they part ways and how it meant the most to him at that time.

Aaaaand this is why 'Gotham' is great. It took a lot of bits from this trilogy, and a bit from other sources, and melded them into something spectacular. Not making Bruce amazing from the beginning, having him live on the streets, paying more attention to people who aren't Batman (Alfred, Gordon, every villain), focuses on the world as a whole, and gives us believable reasons for most everything. So, thank you BB for giving us a reason to have another great superhero show!

Batman Begins succeeds in thematically tying Bruce Wayne/Batman, his allies, his enemies and Gotham together. No element of the movie outshines the other; it’s balanced amazingly well. The Dark Knight, on the other hand, focuses less on Bruce Wayne/Batman and focuses more on the Joker, Harvey Dent and Gordon. It’s still a solid movie. It’s an amazing film, but an okay Batman movie.

I believe the quick cut fight scenes are meant to imitate fights in a comic book. Most fights in comics give a different angle in every panel, and every punch gets it's own panel. Zack Snyder's Watchmen did something similar, but he chose to recreate panels almost perfectly, using slow motion any time a shot was a panel recreation. It gets a bit tedious and I personally prefer the way Nolan did fight scenes in Batman Begins. It was a risk and it made the fights extremely hard to watch when I was 10, but now that I have gotten around to reading a few Batman comics I kinda love the Dark Knight Trilogy fight scenes.

One thing I love about this film that everyone overlooks are the guns. They feel real, when a gun is fired you feel the recoil and the loud bang that a gun is supposed to create. When Thomas and Martha Wayne are shot, it feels like they are really getting shot

My favorite comic book trilogy of all time. One thing I love about this trilogy is that it wasn't just dark for the sake of being dark. The tone fit with the themes of the films. It fit with the characters, and the stories Nolan wanted to tell. But it had plenty of humor, that worked, and more importantly, it had hope. That's what this Batman fought for. The hope for a better future. These weren't just great comic book films, they were also great films. Great films with well developed, multi-layered characters, fantastic dialogue, great performances from both main and supporting actors and amazing soundtracks. However, it's not flawless. While I don't think the hand to hand combat was TERRIBLE, it certainly could've been much better. And Rises is definitely the weakest film in the trilogy IMO. But what I love most is how Nolan took all these characters, put his own spin on them, and yet somehow, still stayed true to the core of the characters. That's why this trilogy was so special. It did its own thing and still remained faithful where it mattered. I wish DC could go back to being this great, in terms of their movies
